Well, the answer is… I don’t really know .
I drew a rough outline of each chapter with the major branches of the story. Every chapter has a “theme” that echoes through the characters (MC + the Brooks). In Chapter 1, Remembrances, the MC found itself devoid of memories while meeting the family for the first time. In Chapter 2, Ruptures, we gather all that we have seen in Chapter 1 and tear it down—relationships, confidence, sanity.
But the thing is: I don’t have all the story planned yet. I wrote down the major milestones, yes, but I usually “let the characters guide me”. I think that when you have a good picture of your characters in your mind, they tend to surprise you when you “let them act by themselves”.
If you find this whole “let the characters guide the story” thing just plain old BS, like I once did, I sincerely recommend you On Writing by Stephen King. It might change your opinion on “plotting”.
So, basically: I have the characters solid in my mind, I have the scenario/world, I have the major landmarks of the story, and I have a bunch of scenes that I want to implement (like the family hiring an exorcist if their Terror levels are too high, or Ollie’s RPG friends bringing an Ouija board to the manor during a party).
I still have space to add new elements to the story.
All that said, I ask you all:
1) Would you like to meet other ghosts in this story?
2) Which aspects of the MC’s past life do you want to see in the game? (I have already covered the “main things”: cause of death, profession, a beloved person, how did the MC turn into a ghost, and so on)
3) Would you like to have romantic options as the MC (considering that each member of the Brooks family has already at least 1 RO)?
