faerys were, a long time ago, quite scary. you eat their food, you have to stay with them and be their slave/servant/underling. they lived in a different world, cursed people and stole away lovers and beautiful sons and daughters of anything from peasants to noble houses. their powers were that over illusion and the natural world, and their wrath could help or destroy whole kingdoms.
even though fg is going for the modernised, sweet version a bit, you can see he knows his old faery tales.
Yeah I know… it is the aesthetics and the name fairy… Also @FairyGodfeather Malefica uses leather so i want leather not flowers… There are no black roses or something like that… Maybe a soy silk black and purple… I wont use anything glittery at all. I am the grumpy poisonous fairy

Fairies steal your children and leave you with a bundle of sticks instead! Fairies curse you because they feel like it and you did something innocuous they took offence at!
In Beauty and the Beast, the boy-prince refuses to let a strange woman, who arrived at his castle in the middle of the night into his castle, so she cursed him to be a Beast and potentially DIE if he couldn’t find true love!!! Fairies are fickle! They’re monstrous. They turn Princes into frogs, and sentence Princesses to death, and even when they’re providing gifts, it’s things like diamonds and roses falling from your lips whenever you speak.
They’re not kind, benevolent creatures. They’re nothing like angels.
And yeah, my game’s going to be silly. But the aspects I love about fairies are that edge to them. It’s that they’re so alien and inhuman and they’re just very much other. They’re the sort of creatures that inspired Tolkien’s Elves.
I do sort of have some stat ideas written down. I’ve yet to implement them. My page is a sort of mess currently filled with ideas that need streamlined so it’s okay.

Dragon likes Princesses! You are not a Princess. Alas!
Of course Dragon also caused some issues when he accidentally kidnapped a Prince instead of a Princess, much to the Prince’s extreme embarrassment and the relentless teasing of everybody who heard. It’s really hard to tell those humans apart though and how was he to know he’d caught a Prince instead. Dragon very specifically does not like Princes and considers them far more trouble than they’re worth.
But yeah, you can totally end up with the Dragon at the end. You can persuade him that you’re far more interesting than any Princess, and that while every other dragon has a Princess, no dragons have a Fairy Godmother, and wouldn’t he like to be unique? Or something!
Yeah, that does sound like a good match, only who will we end up with then?
Go for the sexy hunk in leather again (and hope he’s not that prince)?
Edit: He’s not the King, and if he is the prince then maybe we, the faerie where his match after all, eh?

A Shepherdess came along, defeated the Dragon, rescued The Prince, claimed his hand in marriage as a reward, and is now ruling as Queen. The King has some underlying issues regarding all of this. He hates the Dragon and doesn’t have any sense of humour about the incident. In fact he gets rather furious if it’s mentioned.
But I’m still undecided if you actually get to meet the King and Queen. or if they exist just as background figures. There’s a spot they can appear, right before the ball but I’m not sure if it’ll just completely mess up the flow of the game and slow down the start. Since you’ve already got the whole Fairy Godfather meeting, receive your mission, choose your outfit, then meet the Prince.
Not sure if meeting the King and Queen will be one scene too many, if it provides an essential piece of the puzzle, or just a distraction, and if it’ll add to the story. It’s probably easier to show what they’re like than just hearing about them through the other character’s eyes.
