Favorite COG writers

@WulfyK

How does one play Shadow Regiment? I’m kinda curious since it seems to be related to the Infiniverse.

@NJG
I’ve posted links to all three games in Mecha Ace: The Q&A Thread a while ago and I think there is a link to Shadow Regiment somewhere in the GoI thread.

Which one from the three should I play first? @WulfyK

@Obsidian
You have to decide it yourself, these games are not connected to each other and have different settings and mechanics. My advice would be to play MoF first because @Cataphrak will make a sequel to it after finishing GoI.

@Everyone
I think this discussion is off-topic here. If you want to talk about @Cataphrak’s other games, make a new thread for this or ask him to open one.

Paul, Mike, Havenstone. In order.

My fave three (no order) are: Heather, Jim and Mike. I can enjoy their works again and again without growing bored.

  1. Paul Wang @Cataphrak (dragoon saga, mecha ace, Kendrick stone, HMS foraker, etc.)
  2. Kevin Gold(robots, Alexandria, MAGIC)
  3. Mike Walter (lost heir)
    There are many more hard working authors who give their best and write good quality stories around here like Allen gies (tin star, marine raider, apex patrol), tierra wright @ToxicDreams (dragon racer), heather albano (study in steampunk) @Gower(tally ho),etc.

Almost four years later, and the most recent post shares two of the same top three authors with the post that began this thread in 2015. Interesting.

I can see two to three😛
But seriously though Paul Wang is a great writer!

At this point, I’d say my top three are Kevin Gold, Kyle Marquis, and @Gower.

But I’m a long time fan of Paul and Mike, too, and can’t wait for the next game from @HarrisPS.

CoG top 3: @Gower (A Midsummer Night’s Choice, Tally Ho!) @Havenstone (Choice of Rebels) @kgold (Choice of Robots, Choice of Alexandria, Choice of Magics)
HG top 3: @ThomB (Evertree Saga, The Grim and I) @malinryden (Fallen Hero) @JimD (Zombie Exodus, ZE:SH, A Wise Use of Time) and @MizArtist33 (So, You’re Possessed!) (as the plus 1 bc it’s hard to keep it to just 3)

I like how you don’t put yourself in the top three

Overall, I’d say Cataphrak, Jim D and Allen Gies are my top three

(Please don’t kill me, Havenstone, I’m only a youngling)

:slight_smile: Don’t get me wrong, I like my game…but I’m genuinely not top 3 in my own ranking. There are definitely better writers on the site, plus a lot whose balance of strengths and weaknesses comes out in the same ballpark as me.

(With new faves joining the longlist all the time – I’m on my second play through of Heroes of Myth now and loving it.)

How could I forget about them? They definitely deserve a place on my list too… Make that top 5 HG authors.

Don’t sell yourself short. Granted, it’s been awhile since I played Rebels, but I always felt you were on par with both Allen Gies and Cataphrak, Allen Gies due to the sandbox mechanics and Cataphrak in terms of lore and storytelling.

It’s weird seeing my topic again but my list probably stays the same, but Kyle Marquis might replace Allen Gies, since I have really enjoyed all of his work especially Silverworld. Honorable Mentions would be Malinryden, Gower and Thom Bailey.

Kevin Gold
Helena_H (Donor: A Vampire Victim’s Tale)

And soon HannahPS when I get my hands on Crème de la Crème. Every time I hear a synopsis about her games, I want to play them instantly.
