Fallen Hero - Update 18 December 2016

Hugs.

Lots of hugs.

Ortega Hugs.

There must be hugs. All the hugs. Wet, teary, sloppy hugs that smear the makeup.

Doesn’t opposed stats work pretty much identical to normal stats from a mechanic perspective? I thought the only real difference was how they are presented, and consequently how they “feel” to the player. I think regular stats work best when having a high level is objectively a good thing, like when measuring your proficiency or success with something. Opposed works best for things where being at one end of the scale is equally good as being on the other, they are different, but neither is inherently better. So attitudes, ideologies, personality traits and such. Since this is how you’re already doing it, I obviously think that’s good as it is. :stuck_out_tongue:

As for the names, Infamy/Obscurity, Ruthlessness/Empathy and Daring/Cautious are all natural pairs. I do think Arrogance/Anonymity is perhaps not as natural of a pair, but it really doesn’t me.

My suggestion for renaming them would probably be Arrogance/Discretion, or possibly Arrogance/Modesty, Arrogance/Restraint, Bravado/Anonymity, or Bravado/Discretion, depending exactly what you want the stats to convey.

So I’m not sure if anyone has asked this, but towards the end of this, I’m curious if you get the option to stay in your puppet or not. It would certainly be very interesting to me at least.

No spoilers.

I imagine that we might pull an Apocalypse and climb into our puppets body (most likely without our powers) if we become strong enough. But that’s just a theory.

The puppet really gives an entirely new dimension to the game. You literally walk around in someone else’s shoes and see how life would change .

@malinryden that is the best way I have ever heard of giving spoilers lol

@malinryden btw what does marshal steel look like? I’m playing sims and I’m serously considering just giving him redskin and calling it a day

@LazerFarm
He probably looks like a mix of Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Rock.

But in heavy armor and with annoying tech.

So I was wondering, how does the ruthlessness/empathy affect your gameplay? Do people just notice you have a more bloodthirsty/sunny disposition or does it just affect your character’s dialogue or something?

@NicoRobin & @Kattz - Oh shit, I haven’t described Steel anywhere? Consider me facepalming. That will be fixed in the update, but just so you know it, he’s chinese-american

Ruthlessness/Empathy is mostly used for me to tailor the text. A lot of this is the thoughts of the MC after all, and this is a good gauge on how they feel about these matters.

For example: When you go into Lady Argent’s mind you have the option to manipulate it to make feel more friendly and sympathetic about you:

You might as well play around a little while you’re in here, adjusting her feelings towards you wouldn’t be any harder than defusing her memories. It’s not like you’re breaking anything, you’re just enforcing what is already there.

Should you feel bad about this? You ponder this hint of guilty conscience as you seek out the warmer currents of her mind, searching for any trace of positive feelings towards you. Is this kind of invasion becoming too easy? Are you too comfortable with manipulating the very essence of a person?

If you have a high enough empathy, you also get this block of text added:

Probably. But that doesn’t really change anything now, does it? You’re not a hero anymore, if you ever were. A guilty conscience won’t change the world, you need to learn how to let these things go. Why should you care anyway? You have done worse things to better people. It’s too late to turn back now anyway, betraying yourself would be worse than betraying other people.

Squashing your remaining misgivings, you try to cling to the thought that sometimes two wrongs do make a right.

However, sometimes it is used for tests as well, or to see how other people will feel about your actions in the long run, or whether you can make certain choices.

So headcanon of Ken Watanabe for Steel was almost on the dot :)) (at least without having the confirmation he’s Asian American)

Still. Excited to see what you have in store for the hospital scene ovo/

UPDATE 10 DEC

58 000 playable words on average now! Total word count: 252 000 or so

Big update. Lots of things can happen. Or almost none at all. It’s all up to your choices!

Also, good news! I have found some new ways to handle code which makes it MUCH faster to code variations for me, which means that I can pay attention to details in a much easier and more streamlined way. That will make things a lot easier going forth. I am but a coding beginner after all.

This time I DO recommend playing from the start, as I have added some new variables as early as chapter one. Also, I have heard that sometimes Dashingdon has a few issues with browsers remembering old settings, so I would clear my cache, or maybe play in the browser’s privacy setting if there’s any problems.

I have yet to code the last bit of this chapter, which is basically watching the news to see how your debut was received, but I felt that you guys deserved some fun for being such wonderful players. Seriously, this place is the best inspiration.

Thank you “Big update” means more fun!

Re Dashing - I heard that you need to refresh the first two chapters for the refresh to work properly. I use the private option for all sessions so I avoid that issue myself but hopefully this will help any having issues.

Again, thank you for such a wonderful story-game. You inspire us too

Haven’t gotten to the new content, though I like the option of my expletive of choice “Oh, fiddlesticks!”

But I did find this small grammar error:

“Hey.” Ortega raises his arm in greeting as he spots your approach, and you automatically does the same, with what you hope is a cheerful smile.

Should be:

you automatically do the same

Edit: also, when asking Ortega how he/she feels about the nonbinary MC, it says “was they” and “is they.”

An update… Well… There goes my early night.

Sleep is for the weak. Especially when there’s updates for the best WIP on the forum.

Sleep is for the weak I say!
Ouch the flash back to Ortega gently taking care of us hurts like heck. I genuinely felt really guilty and shitty :sob:.
It was the first time I actually doubted myself. That was superb how you amplified the emotions in that scene with a single paragraph.
