how can someone look like a younger version of someone else, if they don’t look similar? if they look similar, then they are both attractive.
I always thought that the mirror image thing was about the type of appearance they both have, rather than that they actually look similar. It’s not like Sidestep manually customised their puppet like in The Sims to make them look like a younger hotter selves. 
It was a coincidence that they share several physical traits, I think.
I think that Sidestep is attractive, they just hate themselves too much to admit it, they are an unreliable narrator. All my Steps are hotties!

Features can change with age, with the (baby) fat disappearing, skin growing looser / wrinkled and all the other fun stuff that comes with being older. This can result in a person who is not all that attractive looking “good enough” while they’re young, but far from it once these benefits of youth disappear.

yes, I’m aware. But the opposite is true as well. For example, I’m attracted to older ladies. There are some celebrities for example that I didn’t care for when they were younger. Once they aged…Holy shit. In my eyes, they become more attractive once they shedded the youthful stuff.

I think Sidestep’s view of their own attractiveness is definitely compromised by their own body dysmorphia and lack of self-esteem (which is canon to all Steps, I think). So the player can decide whether Step is physically attractive or not.
My main Step, I see him as someone who is plain but cleans up nicely; he’s much more attractive in a suit (whether it’s nondescript or expensive or the villainsona armor) than in a hospital gown.
As for how he feels about the puppet…he definitely feels bad for Ace (and Ace’s story exponentiated his discomfort with puppet use). He is not expecting Ace to come back. He’d want to talk things out if he knew Ace was back. Whether Ace feels the same way probably depends on if this is after Retri ending 1.1/1.2 or 4.2.

Attractiveness is not only about features, but also about how a person presents themselves. In book one Sidestep didn’t look particularly fabulous, but most of my Sidesteps had a glow up in book two, when we can choose their personal style. Becoming a villain really helps with confidence. 
One of the things I’m going to mourn about the whole Ace situation is the name we gave them, because I doubt they’ll continue using it. I imagine Sidestep spent hours browsing baby names websites and r/namenerds to pick a perfect name for a puppet (not unlike me when I search names for my MCs 
), only for them to stop using it once they regained consciousness. How ungrateful!

My very first puppet’s name was meant to be ironic - Ellis, which means “benevolent”. No one will suspect a thing! But then I got lazy and the rest of my puppets just had random cool names.
