Fallen Hero: Retribution release thread! (Book Two) (Spoilers Inside!)

I was so excited for this that the I was refreshing the page every few minutes until it became available. Then I had to take like 30 mins to calm down because I was too excited to read. This was everything I hoped it would be. And the ending! God, I wanted to just die the whole time, it was so painful! My only complaint is that I discovered this series too early, so now I have to wait for what comes next.

I got that on my first playthrough and damn, I can truly feel my puppet’s fear oozing through.

I think you have to fight her with out the abilities on the bridge.

You mean without using telepathy?

What variables made Dr. Mortum backstab MC?

They always backstab you if you go help them break out the puppet since the puppet wakes up without you being in them. Things go a lot better with them if you go with them to break out Step as the puppet

If Mortum researchs Shroud for you, the puppet can’t ask them to assemble the regenerator. The MC can, if you have a second in-person meeting, but otherwise the puppet won’t ever bring it up. (Which can lead to lines like “With Dr. Mortum out of the picture, you have to step up” later on, even though you’re still on perfectly good terms.)

“My shields are fraying fast” won’t trigger with high subterfuge and force exactly 80 – only >80 or <80. (It also has a “force %+5” that never does anything, because if force>80 that always rounds down to 0.)

The Zephyr epilogue where Blaze is dead and Chen comes to talk plays without change even if Chen is in surgery from being shot in the stomach by the puppet.

The option “Breath. Stay in control. It’s not Chen’s fault.” should probably be “Breathe.”

Telling Herald “I don’t want Ortega to get killed because of you.” only sets herald_weaken if your relationship is “oh no, he’s hot” or “oh no, I like him”, which is probably unintended.

Well spotted, thank you!

We shall ride the wave of anonymity until the end. In the sewers. Like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. (Or until Ortega and Steel kick the door in going “Who do you think you’re kidding?!” in my Sidestep’s case)

I think that particular run ended with Anonymity/Empathy/Caution over 9000 90%.

Yeah, i said that.

“Keep in mind Ortega only approaches and flirts with the puppet solely to investigate our villain persona.”

And again, they only fall so hard because its Sidestep they fall for inside the puppets body, so by extension, they fall for Sidestep. When Sidestep in the puppets body flirts back, we remind Ortega of Sidestep, so they fall for Sidestep

Still it is unfair to flirt with other person when you try to fix more important relationship with your lost long love. And in the car Ortega admits that they were planning to flirt with Puppet

Okay, did a second run and I think I freaking hate Ortega now.

My MC said no to HG (after not shaking hands), then got tortured because her abilities were apparently not high enough to fight her way out (and that sucked, because I thought she was pretty strong, but I guess you need > 80 in both force and manipulations). Ortega rescued her… she told him the truth, got in a wreck…

Ended up hopping bodies to the puppet, then woke up in her own body again. In a prison hospital.

She told Ortega about the Farm and broke down. Ortega comforted her, but doesn’t give a shit and is insistent she go to prison. She told him she loved him and he doesn’t seem to care–she still has to go to prison, and if the directive gets her again, too bad. He proved that she means nothing to him.

Steel came to see her and she was honest with him. He was actually far nicer than Ortega and seemed to want to help her. Told her not to do anything stupid when he left her. Then, in the epilogue, he seems to have turned against her. So she literally has no one.

At this point, if she could get her hands on a knife, she’d just off herself and be done with it.

I guess the romance with Ortega is over now. I hope she fucking dies at the directive’s hands, not that anyone would care.

I’m tempted to play again and have her not admit that she’s the villain, but knowing how they all will turn on her as soon as they know, I don’t see the point!

Yeah they really don’t like you killing a lot of people except Argent(kind of but not really there is still a relationship decrease) but you have to tell the truth beforehand and also go on the date with her. In order for the other Rangers to break you out when they know you are a villain not killing people(or at least they not knowing you killed anyone) is a big requirement. Plus you also have to choose to think about the person you want to break you out

It’s better to lie and decive than to be honest about ourselves

I think you’re missing my point. Ortega only flirts with the puppet because Ortega knows that we are a criminal and working for a villain. If you admit to it in the car after leaving HG’s club, Ortega says “i knew it.”

She didn’t flirt with the puppet because she was initially interested in getting into a relationship with the puppet, it was only for info.

When Sidestep meets Ortega when they are possessing the puppets body and begins to flirt back to Ortega, Ortega picks up on Sidestep’s personality while inside the puppets body, they begin crushing on the puppet aka Sidestep’s personality while inside the puppet because the puppet reminds Ortega of Sidestep and that is why they start to date the puppet.

Ortega literally says to Sidestep in the restaurant scene if they are dating the puppet that the puppet reminds Ortega of Sidestep/the MC

Which is why I now hate Ortega. He talks a pretty game, telling the MC to trust him, but she can’t trust him at all–he just wants to play the hero for the bad guys (the government) and lock her up for life. If he actually loved her, then he’d try to help instead of just washing his hands of her, leaving her locked up until her owners come to murder her. Prick.

My Sidestep killed no one. And went out of her way to make sure people didn’t get hurt. And still they deserted her. She thought of Ortega, and he was there when she woke, but he didn’t help her, just ditched her and leaves her, knowing the special directive will come get her and torture her endlessly again.

You can’t convince me he actually cares about her after that.

Sigh, Ortega doesn’t understand how the system works , maybe with time they will understand that someone higher is pulling strings .

I mean Ortega will turn away if Sidestep is a killer which, let’s be honest, is a legit reason to hate someone’s guts.

I think he understands how it works, he just doesn’t care. Let the bad guys rule and obey them. Protect property and stand in the spotlight having everyone worship him. He doesn’t give a shit about the MC. Considering he’ll hook up with the puppet and blow off the MC, I think he’ll just stick it in whoever is there and convenient.

My Sidestep killed no one, and actively protected people (took charge when going after Carter and barked orders at Steel to make sure they got everyone out safe), so it’s not like he has that excuse to hate my Sidestep.

Nope, that didn’t work for me. Aave killed no one, actively protected them, and thought of Ortega. He talked to her, asked questions, and she told him about the Farm, and he left her there. Said she had to pay for what she did.

Wait if you thought of her during the moment where you can choose who you regret hurting the most and they were they when you woke up then they should have break you out of the hospital. At least that what happened with me during my run where everyone found my Step was a villain. Here is the check for it in the code *if ((((not(fakeself)) and (not(por_ghost))) and ((not(knownkill)) or (repentkill))) or (((not(fakeself)) and (villainortega_relationship = “sympathetic”)) and ((not(knownkill)) or (repentkill))))

Well, my Sidestep killed no one… I don’t know what “fakeself” is. Villain/Ortega relationship text is " Ortega thinks Mastermind has made some good points." So maybe that’s why it fails? That’s not sympathetic.

Then I have no idea why he betrays my Sidestep. I hate him for it, though, and don’t see how there can be any romance after this. He literally doesn’t care about her. I think that if the special directive came in and took her, he wouldn’t give a shit or feel bad about it. He wants her to suffer.
