Can I somehow get the ending: ‘innocent MC in the hospital’ if Ortega sympathizes with the villain or is suspicious?

You can get it with a sympathetic Ortega, and can even get it while revealing yourself to Argent or even Steel as long as you’re not too big an asshole, but not if Ortega is suspicious, she will always treat you as a criminal.

Like maximo_caseres said sympathizes is a separate thing from suspicion past the first chapter of Retribution where import stats are set so yes for that but if Ortega suspicion is 50 or above they will always rat you out to the rest of the Rangers if you end up in the hospital as Step. If it’s 41-49 you can try to talk them out of it

50 is when they directly ask you if you’re the villain post crash. 60 is when they’re absolutely certain unless your meeting with HG ends in a fight

They are right in that sympathetic does not stop you from Ortega finding you innocent…
However, it does come with a 20 oc increase at the start of retri, so it will be harder as a result…

Actually technically not a increase it sets Ortega suspicion to 20 if it’s not above 40 though I don’t think it can be unless you got suspicious in Rebirth

Yeah, if it’s 50, Ortega doesn’t believe your innocent but doubts enough to ask you. Get 60 and they know 100% you’re the villain and won’t bother asking.

No that’s the chat in the car I think hold on let me check. Yes that’s just the chat in the car which just effects suspicion and it unlike the checks in the hospital does not set any Ortega or any other Rangers know you are the villain for sure flags

It’s probably a dumb question but if
- nobody else tells Ortega that you’re the villain
- you don’t voluntarily confess it to them
- and their suspicious isn’t between 41 and 50 (so they won’t ask you directly if you’re actually the villain)
How does the game determine that your Step is guilty? I don’t remember seeing a stat check if their suspicious is above 50 to set your as revealed as the villain

It must sting to have been played for a fool this long. It’s no use denying it. You know you’ve left enough clues by now if even Ortega finally sees the truth

I kinda ship Ortega and Argent too and I wish we could play matchmaker with them as well (though I would most likely need to do all the talking with Ortega since Argent would probably eviscerate my poor MC if he tried to give her any dating advice)

Checked the code.
If your OC stat is <=50 but not low enough to automatically be labeled as innocent, you’ll go to the areyou section of chapter 24, which is Ortega asking if you’re the villain.

…my other reply was bugging me a little, so I’m rewriting it to make it less confusing (and it’s the last time you’ll see me talking about how to end the game as innocent even with Ortega being suspicious of you, I promise lol)
Anyway, you need to:
Summary
- Refuse to work with Hollow Ground (so don’t shake their hands if your subtle manipulations/strength of mind stat isn’t > 80, otherwise you’ll have to agree with them)
After that, you have two options
If the dampeners are off, you can pick the ‘Nocturne’s mind is open, I use her against them’ option.
And if the dampeners are on, you can pick the ‘Not used to people saying no?’ option. It also works with the first and third ones, but then you have to make sure your arrogance is < 75

You have to win the fight and then choose to escape using the back door

Don’t try to escape from Ortega when they spot you
After this, it should activate a variable called ‘notthevillain’ that makes Ortega believe that you’re innocent no matter how much they suspect you (and also prevent you from being outed as the villain if their suspicion is low and Steel/Argent figured you’re the villain).
There are probably other ways to achieve this, but this is the one I always used.
