What actually happens if you lie about your telepathy being gone?

That’s what I meant - I didn’t kill those people because I have no business killing strangers.

In order to defeat Lady Argent in the sewers, you need to use either:
-telepathy to shut down her mind (requires 70 points in either subtle manipulation or strength of mind)
-the trap called the sword of Damocles which you can leave in Argent’s brain during the session where you are supposed to “help refresh her memory”.
-the speed upgrade with jump jets and the strength upgrade with an exoskeleton, however, keep in mind you need high daring for this. Otherwise, you will end up using your nanobots to breach pipelines to flood the area, and won’t be able to take a trophy from the unconscious Argent. If you have high enough daring, Ortega will be able to punch your nanovore cage which means you cannot terrify her, but on the upside you can beat Argent in the sewers by slamming her into the ceiling with the use of your jump jets.

Alright, I know this thread has had so many comments already but I wanted to tell you I loved this game. I’ve played almost every Choice of Games work and this was my favorite (Choice of Robots a close second). The writing was fantastic, all of the characters felt deep, the power was awesome (perfect for a streamlined narrative), and most importantly when you were asked “Why are you doing this?” one of the options was “I don’t know”.
I can’t tell you how huge that is. Everyone is here for some aspect of control over the story. To feel invested in it. When I saw an option that made sense when I didn’t necessarily agree with the others that allowed the truth of life when we do things without real known conscious reasons… I got so incredibly excited. This is the first time I’ve seen that in one of these games.
What I’m saying is bravo and please keep writing.

Agreed, I absolutely loved it when my character had the option of thinking that he is essentially just falling and that thought gives him freedom.

Interesting. I am surprised to see no one else has examined this video yet. I, on the other hand, am more than happy to do so, even if it is just misdirection by you, @malinryden.

From the looks of it, if we are to assume the video lyrics are a monologue of the Protagonist, then it would seem that their psychological condition has deteriorated ever further. Or maybe improves. It depends on how you view it. One thing seems clear, though. The Protagonist, their true self who was once the Hero, and the Villain persona are indeed distinct personalities. We have seen the expression of both, at different times throughout the first installment, but the Villain has remained dominant throughout and this continues into the second installment.

I theorised, in an earlier post, that the darker aspects to the Protagonist’s personality, that which drives them to become a Villain, is not a natural part of them, and is a piece of an Entity that once possessed Heartbreak during the experiment. We see in the first installment that something terrible happens during the experiment, something that created something even worse. I believe that this process was how Heartbreak, as we know it, was created. The memories of that experiment are Heartbreak’s, and the Protagonist gained those memories as well as a piece of that Entity when the Protagonist met Heartbreak.

This video seems to illustrate this point. Two souls, two personalities, held in union possessing a single body. I suspect that the Protagonist’s more high-level telepathic powers are the result of that Entity becoming one with the Protagonist, and growing stronger over time. This video illustrates the realisation of this situation, I think. It would be very hard to turn a good person into a true villain, after all. I think that perhaps the Protagonist questions their darker impulses more, questions if this villainy truly is who they are. This is not new, but what would be something new is the shown battle. There seems to be a battle of wills going on in the video, the Hero against the Villain, an internal battle that both souls fight for control over their host. The Villain will win, though, from the looks of it.

I do not think that an Entity like Heartbreak can simply assume control of just anyone they come across. It perhaps has to be someone who went through a traumatic event, something truly horrible. Something did happen to the Protagonist, but I do not think it was the shown experiment of the first installment. Something else happened. But this something else was still bad enough to make the Protagonist compatible with Heartbreak; to be the host for Villain entity.

Besides the above, I am not sure what else to safety theorise. The potential for the Protagonist, or their Villain alter ego, to be held accused of crimes they did not commit (yet)? Perhaps the Villain assumes control too directly, causing the Protagonist to black out, only to discover later that they did terrible things without any memory of it? The dark Entity completely controlled Heartbreak when we find them. Perhaps this control was not an instantaneous occurance, but rather something that happened over time. Perhaps the Entity is growing too strong, assuming control directly, possessing the Protagonist completely rather than partially for limited times.

Though, you have to wonder who we are truly playing. Are we the Villain Entity? The Hero, who the Protagonist once was before Heartbreak? Or the mix of the two, the Protagonist as they are now? We, as the Protagonist, can try to resist our darker impulses, but we always fail in the first installment. Does that make us the Hero? Or can a Villain truly decide to act against their own dark nature? From what I know of real world Villains, their actions are a consequence beyond their control, viewing their actions as inevitable and unavailable; almost as though they are merely the instruments to what they see as the natural way of things. Some go as far as to curse the world and all that there is, but especially the highest virtues that these Villains personally recognise as virtues but who they see as unworthy of this world, or this world unworthy of them. Depends on how you, or they, view it.

Anyway, I think this essay is enough for today. Do keep them coming, @malinryden. I do so like to theorise on these teasers.

The title: “Sweating Bullets” is the key and so I expect the next episode or installment to be a mirror to the Empire Strikes Back - except here we will have Ortega *and crew) Strikes Back or the Farm Strikes Back where the MC goes through major trials and tribulations … :two_hearts:

What I mean by that statement is that this video might not have anything to do with the next installment at all, or that, if it does, the association is so vague and unclear that we would not know it until you read the next installment. A bit like Nostradamus predictions. You only associate one of those super vague and unclear premonitions with an event after the event has happened. In that sense, Nostradamus predictions are not worth the paper, or servers, that they are written on.

Well it was fun to read and gave me some food for thought either way. I thought they may have mixed their minds via telepathy but I hadn’t considered the heartbreak entity living in the MC’s head. I love theorizing about what could happen next even if we’re wrong

My sentiments exactly.

Definitely not the only one. I have very specific playlists like one for what plays at joes, Mortum x MC shippy stuff, Ortega x MC shippy stuff ofc, for when MC was Sidestep, etc.

So here’s just one of them. This one is really for the game itself, I mean, based on my run through it and by extension also based on the feelings of my canon MC (Akira). You can guess which songs play at which parts (HAHA) but for the most part, chronological

  1. To Fight Monsters, We Created Monsters [Ramin Djawadi]
  2. Take Your Bow, Knave [Austin Wintory]
  3. Life in Ruins [Manaka Kataoka]
  4. Devotion [Joe Hisaishi]
  5. Sixth Stop [Joe Hisaishi]
  6. Regret [Shoji Meguro]
  7. Betrayal [Christopher Lennartz]
  8. Threat Incoming [Yuki Hayashi]
  9. Blooming Villain [Shoji Meguro]
  10. Last Agni Kai [The Track Team]
  11. Somnus [Yoko Shinomura]

BONUS:

Solas [Trevor Morris]

Because Akira is on a path she feels she can’t stop being on despite someone she cares about deeply asking her to reconsider

SOUND FAMILIAR?

Except I feel like Akira hasn’t gone over the line (yet) like the way Solas has. And is much more sympathetic

Solas is on my hit list. Damned treacherous treehugger!

That’s a funny way of spelling “Glorious liberator from the false gods.”

That’s a funny way of spelling “Sexy bald badass who defeated Flemeth.”

I really love those songs, especially the last one so perfect!

DA Trespasser spoilers: The music when you find Solas at the end would fit really well for when/if Ortega ever finds out you are a villain.

There’s a reason why I chose the extended suite  the theme of when Solas tells the Inquisitor about the truth (bonus if the Inquisitor romanced the Egg) is exactly how I imagined the BG for the MC if they get alone time to tell Ortega the truth

Like possible parallels are too good except again my MC is not genocidal among others :stuck_out_tongue:

If anyone wants the more shippy playlists that I have, I can drop them here too (because frankly I have a lot like even down to character playlists)
