Well… Same puppet I guess (love Isaac for Ortega but I really went with the all Hispanic vibe for them with Pedro Pascal, the mustache did it for me, and Martha Higareda, because I was watching Altered Carbon and her character named Ortega fits the one in our story so much I have trouble thinking this is a coincidence

In the timeline it says that Hollow Ground killed Marshal Hood, former leader of the rangers, which would explain the grudge. From my playthroughs, seems that Hollow Ground is the same gender as the MC, which supplied possible ambiguity to the statement. And yes, the mention of Hollow Ground is the scene before MC plants the explosives.
This is mostly speculation, but yeah, the most forward explanation is that Ortega knows.

The MC has strong shields, but wouldn’t that apply to their mind instead of their physical brain? Would another telepath possessing an empty MC really be more difficult that, say, the MC possessing the empty puppet?
I’d say that the shields are divided in two, there would be a part of them that would come from the habit of being a telepath, the understanding of the mechanism, that would kinda work in any body, and there is a part that would be associated with the actual power of telepathy and that would work in the MC’s body, but a that point I’m really not speaking of the way it’ll work in the sequel just about the way the shields work generally speaking
About the MC maybe being a Re-Gene (maybe a non AI-prototype, since I don’t think the MC is an AI) I found something interesting in one of my playthroughs.
It’s when you go to the museum alone and choose to wander the exhibits the MC mentions about there being no mention of the Specal Directive.
Game quote:
“What would they have called the force-grown bodies? The artificial minds? Tools? Abominations? You smile a little bitterly to yourself as you trace a pattern with your fingertip on one of the shiny surfaes. Your pattern? It doesn’t matter. Not anymore. Not after tonight”
So maybe you were supposed to become a ReGene but got away before the process was finished, or maybe the MC doesn’t even really know what they are

I would say same but I would be lying. I’m honestly just too tired(lazy) to snoop around for clues in the writing and break out the red yarn and corkboard for my theory wall. Besides I find the story enjoyable whether or not I see something coming. The writing and characters really make the story for me anyway so I’ll sweat it for another year.

For the pattern I think it’s more a Sidestep symbol, since in the game the MC mentions the geometrical pattern they chose for their Sidestep suit. Could be wrong but I strongly remember this

It could definitely be that. It just stood out to me since MC was in the middle of monologuing specifically about the Special Directive at the time, and the Re-genes are known for their distinctive patterns, specific for each type of Re-Gene.

I miss details like that all the time. Either way, me skipping it wouldn’t surprise me, I’m usually too caught up in the moment and the scene to pick it up.

I really like the relationship between the MC and Ortega, and just a fun idea to think about and maybe even catch Malin’s attention for how we can explore Ortega’s reaction to the MC’s “death”.
We all know that Ortega is very invested in the MC, and with discussions about how the MC needs to take better care of themselves, maybe Ortega would somehow convince the MC to go shopping with them to get better clothes, get a haircut, better themselves, whatever. End result is that MC and Ortega are out together. This could provide some nice, fluffy moments for a page or two until something happens.
A thief could try to rob them, a car could veer into them, a piano falls from the sky, something that puts the MC’s life in danger, which could cause Ortega to flash back to the Heart Break Incident. For my Ortega, it’s barely pulling my gun out of my mouth, only to be unable to stop me from taking a quick exit out the window. Remembering this could have them absolutely freak out, wanting to drag them to an ER because of a minor scrape.
This would lead to Ortega revealing that Heart Break had made them realize that their relationship with the MC had evolved past being some fling, and they’d spent the past seven years having regretted not realizing sooner. Maybe if they’d realized, they’d have been able to convince the MC to stay back and could have started a serious relationship, leading to them confessing they want to help the MC not because they’re old friends but because they love the MC.
Just an idea, though I’m sure Malin has his own idea. Anyways, love the novel and can’ stop replaying it.

Some dialogue seems to indicate she realized her feelings before heartbreak. Which makes what she went through even harder because it seems to be their first time dealing with these deep feelings.

Both. As much as I love M and O romances on that one, I just can’t wait to play with Argent’s mind and feelings until she fall to the dark side
It could get so complicated romancing Ortega with your own body, Mortum with your puppet and Argent as the villain. It’s like having 3 completely different lives.
By the way did you play this Wayhaven Chronicles game? People seem to like it a lot but I’m kinda hesitant to buy it cause I remember when I played it in the time when it was an early demo it kinda bored me.
