I’d suggest hot tea/cocoa/coffee to go with kittens.
I’ve found it helps on multiple fronts.

The magnificent code you've been writing this whole weekend does not compile. Are you ready to delve into it head first?

That is a not a right answer, try harder.

That's the spirit, young one! You can begin from the line 2055. And up to around 9000.

That’s so accurate, lolsob. Fortunately, I now have hot chocolate… I’m going to power on another hour (I’m on GMT+2, lol), then head for bed. I’ll have plenty of time tomorrow when I’m in a particularly boring class, hehehe…
Not that I’d ever code instead of paying attention. (Yes I will, because it’s the one time where code seems more bearable!)
ONCE MORE UNTO THE BREACH

I was going to ask what was in that mug, but then I actually did that whole reading thing and saw that it is hot chocolate.
Damn midterms making me a burnout even though I don’t do drugs and the midterm tests were easy as hell. Is hell easy? Well, it was as easy as something that is easy. Skull sweat not required.

Lucky! Well done though! I’m sure part of it being easy was just that you studied hard though <3
My last psych exam, the last exam of that degree, I actually failed. It was community psychology and the lecturers were psychopaths. Luckily, since it was the only subject I failed, I got a concession exam to rewrite it, and I passed that. They only mark you to 50% so you can’t do well on it, but you can get the degree.
Turns out I didn’t need it because I had an extra major, so I already had enough credits. But I wrote it anyway to have that major.
Now I’m doing English Studies honours (4th year uni) and that’s so much reading. D: Though it turns out coding is easy when the alternative is reading/discussing Foucault.
Next year I want to do Psych honours, but with my marks I don’t know where I’d get in, so we’ll see how that goes.

So, I’d planned to finish the update/chapter two and roll it out tonight, since I’m at work all weekend.
BUT I LIVE IN SOUTH AFRICA AND SOUTH AFRICA DOESN’T CARE ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS.
Anyway I’ve had no electricity for about four hours. I’m very hungry, send aid. Lol. I’m fine, I’ve managed to get a power bank for my phone and we are managing to cook on gas. It’s just a waiting game now.
But! I’ll try finish the update Saturday or Sunday night, after work.
Try not to wander into any exclusion zones while I’m gone!

Hope you get your electricity back soon!
It’s frustrating having to go without, especially if it’s without proper warning.

No warning whatsoever ._.

Okay! I have something ready to put up, just waiting for Zion to be around so that she can check it out, so it might take just a bit longer.
Here’s what is in the update so far:
Chapter/Mission Two:
Content - the briefing and the mission
Updates to Chapter One:
You can now pick your background and your affectation separately.
What isn’t implemented yet:
- The team noticing if you speak for the first time during the first mission after staying silent the entire game up to then. The code is all in place, but the wording hasn’t come to us yet - we want it not to be harmful!
- Allowing trans players to explicitly state that they are trans male/trans female. We’ve had mixed opinions on this, nearly split down the middle, so I’m going to poll again at a later date.
- Chapter two content: the debriefing, and some possible team-bonding actions afterwards. Most of this is written, but not coded - it will be part of the next update, I just didn’t want you all to wait any longer!
Some hints:
Spoilers
In the second mission, you have a lot more opportunity to make decisions with regards to your actions in the mission. Some of the choices have stat-checks, but some are just based on making choices that make sense and using your head. Careful, everyone!

Alright! @zionmantis is happy! Weeeee’re live!
The most likely problem you’d encounter, if any, is that at the end of the mission continuity might be wrong. If so, let me know! I think I’ve got it right, but I’m a relatively new programmer who still makes dumb mistakes, and Zion and I haven’t been able to test every single option.
That said - enjoy, we hope!

Playing as a genderfluid PC made me go all “awwwww” at Aidan.
It pushed him firmly into the lead, as my favorite so far (which he probably already was, a bit).
Now, I’ll go back to reading the update.

heeee! :3 I’m glad when I hear people like Aidan, I’ve had someone tell me they don’t and they can’t tell me why D:

But Aidan is nice and seems to really care about people!
He might be a big, bad soldier, but he doesn’t really fall into the stereotypes, and that makes me happy.

If I knew this I would’ve swooped by the reply section ages ago to tell you I am very pro-Aidan!!!
What @The_Lady_Luck said. He’s a nice person who actually seems concerned about you and his team especially after the swarm which is very nice to see. I was expecting him to be more… I don’t know. Abrasive? Stoic? Stereotypical? When we first met him, but he wasn’t, and that is such a nice change.
He’s a good dude.

An addendum to the first chapter feedback: have you considered writing cold-hearted MC path?
For example, the bit where you’re infiltrating cult hideout with Macey. While sneaking through the building you run into a kid - Jamie, whom you bring to safety. What if main character doesn’t care about any of that, displaying “not my problem” attitude and insisting on getting the job done above all else? A scene leading to choices: go help Macey or insist on ignoring the kid and keep moving.
Ultimately, Macey will go back, hissing at you “Stay right here and don’t alert anyone!” or something like that. Naturally, in the meantime you could explore the hideout :^)
At the end of the mission if you chose not to help, then you’ll just sit back and amusedly (“Why do you even bother?”) watch Macey go fetch the kid, while he throws angry glares your way.
These are my thoughts and it’s something that always rubs me the wrong way and breaks the immersion in RPGs with choices - when I’m told what to care or what not to care about. Would be great to see this implemented.
Now, about new chapter: superb job, loved it! The bomb shelter description and later sequence really made me feel its eerie, unsettling atmosphere. Does the extranormal space work akin to non-Euclidean geometry?
An example:
Also, damn but Carlisle is one fine walking pharmacy store. He should charge for the services
