Unfortunately, in my actual implementation into ChoiceScript, I found that the new software horribly runs the image as logos. In turn, they don’t look well within the engine itself.
Reverting to my prior software, I’m tinkering to try and find a replacement. This is a potential. I’ll be honest that my options with this software are limited.
Let me know what you think! It’s against a white background this time.
I might’ve finally struck gold, similar to the one everyone universally approved of two posts up.
Using the current software, I’ve diligently worked to construct a shadowed replication. I can tweak this to lighten or deepen the bolding on the outline if needbe.
What do you think? Going to throw a more nuanced poll out there.
After some in-engine testing, the new font works perfectly from up above, and the majority of you said it was spot on… I will begin an implementation overhaul that will replace all textual images. This will take at least a few very grindy hours… Haha!
That said. This font will be our new standard moving forward and will replace the existing one when Update 1 launches.
I come bearing tidings and gifts, including a date that is now possible:
Update 1: Rebirth Launches January 10th, 2024!
This comes with a caveat.
Update 1 will feature the Prologue of Estheria: A Realm Divided, the overhauled Lore Journal, including Amyldia’s updated descriptions, updated Kingdom and Wardal Lore, and more.
Update 1 includes:
The Prologue: Kick-off the story of Estheria: A Realm Divided.
Five racial mini-stories, each containing a sequence of events and branching paths at 5-7k words each.
A completely retooled Character Creator featuring a massive overhaul of all existing dialogue and descriptions, new choices, an overhauled personality test, and more.
Choose your Class from one of three options, each complete with a Class Mini-Story at 5k words each.
The Prophecy of the First provides a riddle that hints at events through the story of Estheria: A Realm Divided.
A preview of Update 2: The Shadowed Veil.
As you’ve taken notice, the Base of Operations is missing. This decision was deliberate, as it’s a complex feature that takes time to cook. As a result…
Update 1.5: The Base of Operations Update will Launch in March 2024!
Update 1.5 will feature the Base of Operations Playtest with the following features:
Build your War Cabinet from a selection of 18 choices, split across six Cabinet Departments.
Manage your troops by training them through four ranks, tending to their injuries, and assigning them to Missions.
Undertake from a choice of six missions, with a total of three available per playthrough.
Use Royal Assistance to construct and expand your Base of Operations, picking from a varied slate of expendables designed to provide unique choices throughout gameplay.
Experience a glimpse of the characters present in A Realm Divided through an included party of misfits.
Undertake a single War Objective, designed as a multifaceted, blockbuster storyline that meaningfully moves the plot forward.
Above all, there’s plenty under and over the hood with much more present. The Base of Operations Playtest will provide a detailed set of management features tightly tied into an unfolding storyline.
Many have eagerly awaited additional content, so this choice was made to deliver. Update 1 is still quite robust in what was added, bringing the game from 12,667 words to 50k+ words. Further, it provides a direction that isn’t just a simple character creator anymore, whilst also establishing a firmer foundation on gameplay.
It’s time for the next Update to Estheria: A Realm Divided.
Work on Update 1 continues. One of many upgrades in progress is the Glossary. This section of the Compendium serves as a guideline/manual for certain key mechanics throughout the game and will grow as development continues.
I’ve designed the glossary to update as you dynamically progress through your adventure. When a new feature is discovered/introduced, the Glossary will update to showcase it. This ensures that your journey is spoiler-free.
In general, my goal is to introduce high production quality throughout the project. Now that the Stats page is severed from active gameplay in most instances, it’s far easier to serve as a sort of Master Journal.
When given the choice, I always play an elf. A magical elf, specifically.
I still can’t believe humans aren’t coming first. It feels like the logical starting point. It’s the perfect default race for before the others are done. But people wanted Aetherials, which I don’t really get. And don’t even get me started on shadow elves coming before the basic ones
That said. The Shadow Elves already have a decent chunk of content, funnily enough in a severed off build. Additionally in truth, they’re going to introduce a sub-faction that’ll be plot-centric/critical, so it serves the story well for their early introduction to those eagerly awaiting.
At the end of the day, all five races will come in with unique variants of Act I, with the coalescing paths converging at the beginning of Act II.
I don’t know if you already have all the updates in that order for a reason but you want want to swap the update for the dwarfs and the aetherials kinda feel bad for the short beards but I think only
one person voted for them
It has been something I’ve considered altering in the roadmap. Aetherials were placed last as they have some additional complicated race lore and mechanics to implement, but I have considered public interest when pursuing development.
It’s not a guarantee they’ll swap, but it’s possible!
I’ve learned that I’m pretty horrific at providing accurate dates. Or that by promising them life throws curveballs.
Anyways. I’m not looking to make excuses. A deadline passed, the update still hasn’t arrived, nor am I going to in-depth into a long post, otherwise - as that doesn’t do anyone any good.
The last racial mini-Story and the overhauled Lore Journal were going to be finished in the prior 15 days. They’re still missing. I made significant progress towards completion of the Lore Journal overhaul for Kingdoms tonight. I don’t like giving any of you the run-around, so I won’t. Merely, I’ll provide a small preview of that progress.
Generally speaking, I’m going to keep my head down and try to have the update out ASAP. It’s close, but I don’t want to promise anything. The moment it’s finished, I’m going to upload it and announce the release here.
Lastly, if any of you have questions, please feel free. I deeply apologize for missing the deadline.
Generally keeping my head down. However, I’m working on the Lore Journal upgrades actively and wanted your thoughts on the expansion.
Please note: The Kingdom Description shown in the preview will still largely provide a size similar to that of the before image below. I just hadn’t shown all of it. Please take that into account!
Let me know what you think from the before/after images in the poll below.
Thanks everyone for your continued engagement. I’m bustling on development, but this feedback is crucial to deliver as polished of an update as possible. My goal again is to have the update out ASAP.
Checking in to confirm I’m not dead, haha. Nor is the project abandoned.
Some serious instances IRL have kept my head underwater and bluntly speaking… The project had largely stalled. I was able to implement some small pieces here and there but frankly haven’t had the time, energy, nor capacity for writing in the manner that the project’s quality deserved.
I am on the upswing! That much is a positive.
Like before, I am limiting updates provided as I know that a few release dates blew by. I am still largely keeping my head down, but I am nonetheless eager to get the update out. Not only so you each have something to grip your teeth into, but so I may also get some significant feedback on much of the new content and systems at play.
Either way, A Realm Divided is progressing once more. I am working on some tweaks here and there on the Lore Journal, and adding some bits and bobs of content as I can.
Thanks so much for all the support and patience. I know that Update 1 is a long time coming, but once it’s done, there’s so much more to honestly come from that point forward.
Take care and have a fantastic rest of your week, you all deserve it.
