Just to check- on the Steam page for my game, I have received a post in the discussion thread mentioning that the game does not work properly on Steamdeck.
Is this normal? Do some games work on it and others don’t? If so, do we know why?
Anyone who has the knowledge, please let me know. I have told the player that they can also play the game on mobile apps without purchasing it again- though I’m not sure how to do this. But, just so I know, I thought I would ask you folks about it.
As far as I know, the Steamdeck runs a custom version of Linux, and HG and COG games work natively on Linux (I can confirm it). There had been an issue with the native version of these games a couple of years ago, if I remember correctly, but that had been long resolved. From then, I never had any problem with the titles I read.
If you check protondb’s webpage (proton is a compatibility tool that allows Windows games to run on Linux), you can see that your title is correctly classified as native, therefore it shouldn’t have any problem running.
Unfortunately I have yet to buy it, so I can’t test it (I’m waiting the Christmas holidays for that). However, I was able to download on Steam the demo of Fields of Asphodel (which is listed as unsupported on its Steam page but native on its Protondb page) and it runs flawlessly.
So, my best guess is that they had messed up some options in their Steamdeck’s configuration. Everything works perfectly on Linux, so don’t worry about that, I believe this is just an (unfortunate) isolated case.
The player has been able to run it- the main issues seem to be in desktop mode. Even so, they say that the native resolution is a bit blurry. I have emailed HG and perhaps they will have a check on it. The player has also suggested that it could be an issue on their system, but worth a check nonetheless.
Merry Green Krogmas, I hope Santa Krog stuffs your jerkins with goodness!
