Divil (WiP) + Mini Play Test

Wow! Thank you both of you… I didn’t realise I had so much flexibility with the code. The karma approach is definitely the way to go.

Really appreciate your help!

no problem! thankfully choicescript is a very easy language, I got a little kick start on coding terminology because of a java course I took, but choicescript is user friendly enough that even someone just starting can get the hang of it after a few hours of tinkering. speaking of tinkering, get notepad++, for coding it will become your new best friend.
good luck by the way, please consider me when you hit the playtest phase if you choose to do it privately. Also, do you mind adding Chuck in some way? I’m not sure why but I got attached even though he was created as an example

Of course… Consider Chuck easter egg number 2!

It will be a long while but I’ll be in touch re: play testing  I’ll probably be in touch before then anyway for help with code…

no problem. If you don’t think the problem’s worth a thread, just PM me, I’m on pretty frequently and I’ll at least try to help. Also, if you want someone to be notified when you reply, you either have the press the reply button on their specific comment instead of the post, or you can add an @ symbol, then their name. (a menu will popup suggesting who you’re trying to contact as you type.)

Can’t wait for the first full chapter!

I see you have used names from real life in the demo… I wouldn’t do that if I were you, it is risky xD

Found some bugs.

1 - Explore -> Read "Lance Armstrong: Every Second Counts"

2 - Explore -> Read “Adolf Hitler :Mein Kampf” -> Read "Lance Armstrong: Every Second Counts"

Readimg the Adolf book and I realize I love hate but there is no evil increase…

liking it so far, though I’m not really a fan of being restricted to the MC being called Divil… maybe give us a few different names to choose from?

It’s only a starting version.

Thanks guys!

@Dark_Stalker I will look into that, there is supposed to be an increase of 25 :frowning:

@Hizoku I am very much on the fence re: the name changing. I will see how others feel about it too and make a decision on whether Divil becomes a description of the character or is it’s name.

@ballmot Thanks Balmot, will fix those glitches this morning. You say using real names is risky? Is that from a legal stand point or just it might get some backs up?

I don’t mind the name. Seems like literally every other game gives you the option to choose, so what’s wrong with one you can’t?

honestly people make way too big a deal over choosing names and sexuality.

@TechDragon610 Whilst I agree with the name thing, do you honestly not think that people being able to choose a sexuality that applies to them is important? Names don’t really change who you are as a person, but sexuality is such a huge part of identity that not including it seems foolish. My sexuality has certainly changed who I am, but my name to me is just something I can change whenever I feel like it, rather than it changing me.

You can’t have a game that focuses on the player’s choices if they can’t even choose who they are and who they love. Obviously, if a game doesn’t have romance it doesn’t necessarily have to be included, but it’s still a nice touch.

@SquishyWitch, I think he meant gender

@Doctor Surely that’s even more important than sexuality?

I tend to avoid games that lock me in as a male. I understand that not everyone feels the same way I do about it, but gender is a big deal to many. A bigger deal than sexuality, quite often. A lot of games lose out on larger audiences because their playable characters aren’t relatable to those of the opposite gender.

Sometimes a story can’t be played by all parts. I personally think that if the goal is to display an ever changing story, some sexualities just won’t fit the bill. I can’t make a Werewolf game where you fight for a mate if the union would be worthless reproductive wise. “yeah, the new alpha chose to be gay, there goes the pack.”

Gender has a wider flexibility, but sometimes you would have to lock genders. I couldn’t make a game about Samurai and include females while retaining accuracy. (a Ninja game on the other hand would be another story…scribbles on “to-do list”)

A little of both, if you want to publish your game on the Apple Store or something.

IMHO Gender is important if you fit it into story same with ethnicity story etc,

If the story wont work with Woman, Well pity but do your best and we will see if the story is and game is good.

@TechDragon610 I do agree that if it doesn’t fit a game due to historical accuracy or would cause major story issues then it shouldn’t be included, but I suppose there are always work-arounds (a werewolf alpha could take one for the team and mate with a female wolf despite being gay, or pass on the role of alpha to someone else, a female samurai could hide her identity as a female in order to be a samurai, there’s a WIP on here that does just that, in fact). Of course, if you can’t find that work around for whatever reason then that’s perfectly fine. The main problem I have with games not having options of gender and sexuality is when it is done out of laziness. When that is not the case, I have no issue with it.
