Devil's Way [Working Title - WIP]

@Random I like your name, I like your story, and I think it’s badass, and sorry about the huge off-topic post below.

I may be late but I thought pretty much all the followers in DA were kinda unloyal to you all at some point. Maybe, except like Varric, Merril, and that annoying He-man chick with the shield, and I thought Fenris,Isabella, & Anders/Justice were pretty solid characters… at times.

Fenris was cool I thought, I thought he was one-dimensional but I was cool with that, but I think later on when he started talking about his sister is when they started to put more depth into him, but he is still an asshole… and dont ever take Anders and Fenris out together they get into the dumbest arguements ever, to the point you wanna stab them both.

Isabella was cool I guess, I’m straight but I didnt want Garret getting a scurvy penalty in his stats, so I tried not to touch her but I thought of her as more comic relief and I didnt mind the constant options to have sex with her, because I thought her persistence was funny but I did find it annoying she would show up to Garret’s house like “Sex anyone!?” when im trying to talk to my guests, and she is the start of the qunari skirmish and gets tons of people killed and then acts like she is doing the right thing by coming back after she stole and left you to die.

Anders, though he whined way too much and from time to time would say some of the stupidest stuff, and I felt Justice wasnt used enough though I didnt replay it more than twice but I seen Justice come out like, twice or three times, I thought that was really cool that he was battling with a demon and that he was a mage who lived in- I forgot the name… but imma call it an underground city, but what he did at the end was like WHAT??? I forgot specifically all the elements of his arguement of why he did it but I believe it boiled down to “I had to get tons of innocent people killed to prove a point.”

Then you know what follows and the Representive of mages just pulls a 180 after the entire game all the talk of “Yo… Us mages dont fux with that blood magic”(putting his words into mine) he goes and uses blood magic.

There was a mission where you talk to this Qunari Mage outcast, and I was like 100% sure he was going to be a follower and he seemed to have alot of really cool stuff going on, more than most of the other followers in like his entire 10-20 mins of actual time with him, and then he just sets himself on fire, and im like “WTF!! GARRET PUT HIM OUT! DONT JUST WATCH!” And Garret just has this troll face like “YAY! YOUR DYING! QUEST COMPLETE MORE EXPERIENCE FOR ME!” and I felt sorrow that the Qunari Mage committed suicide. T.T He will be missed.

I didnt like the ending of the game. It was a lengthy game but it disappointed me it was like the action was good but the story was painfully dragged out for a pretty lame ending, and characters were forgettable… only people I remember enjoying having in my party is Merril and Varric even though people said Merril was a lame character I thought she was epic, oh and Zevran I guess counts, because he made me laugh since he just implied Isabella was a huge whore the entire time and then offered a 3sum option, which was hilarious.

@Apillis Ooooh… I see… Okay, that makes much more sense, thank you for clearing it up!

@FairyGodfeather Ooooooooooh, man, those are some interesting ideas, thanks! I might do that as a second stat or something, I’m not sure. But I’ll keep in mind with your suggestions. And yes, I agree, Apillis is great

@2Ton Thank you~ And it’s fine. I’m a huge gaming fan myself, and I would join the conversation if I’ve ever played Dragon Age xD Sadly though, I’ve only so far played the demo and have no intention of buying it, not yet at least. It’s not in my top ten to get games, unfortunately.

@Random there is suppose to be a new one coming out hopefully that one is a bit better.

@2Ton Eh? Really? I haven’t heard about a new one yet, but I guess I’ll look forward to it yep.

That’s… You know, after I buy Watch_Dogs and a few other games releasing this fall xD It’s at the top of my list so far right now, so yeah.

@Random I’ve not played Dragon Age. I’ve read plot summaries and watched some snippets on youtube. I’m terrible at most games, I lack the patience to play them, so I watch them being played, but not the combat stuff, just the story stuff. It’s one of the reasons I love choice games, because they tend to be focussed on the aspects of games I like and there’s less of the stuff I’m bad at to skip.

Feel free to use any of the ideas that you want, or to not use any of them. It’s more important for you to push forward, to keep on writing, to hit the end of your game before you go back and polish the start of it. I wouldn’t have said anything but with the mention of similiarities between other games, I didn’t think that was accurate.

@2ton and @Random DA:3 is on my list of games I have to get, along with Rune Factory 4, Pokemon X, and Fire Emblem: Awakening (which I already have and l-o-v-e-ing.) have you by chance played DA:A? Both Anders and Justice are in it (as two separate characters) and their personalities are very different fron their DA:2 ones. Anders is like “Yeah, I’m a Mage outside of the circle. Whatcha gonna do 'bout it, Templars?” and Justice is like “Well…I appear to be stuck in a human body…this is awkward I-I don’t really know what to do…I guess I could help you or something”
Most of the reason why I dont like DA:2 is because it’s DA:2. DA:Origins is on my top ten best games/series I’ve ever played (I am a little bias since It was my first M game) and I was expecting DA:2 to be just as epic and it turned out to be meh.

@Random Really sorry about getting off topic but I’m really excited about your game. I’m a sucker for demon stories. :stuck_out_tongue:

XD The best part of DA:2

I love how they just walk off.

@FairyGodfeather Ah… Alright then, thank you!

@Katgirl64 Nope, I haven’t played any of the Dragon Age games. … But wait, there’s going to be a Rune Factory 4? Damn it, I’m going to have to wish for this one to come to the normal DS instead of the 3DS. Nintendo, why? >.> And it’s fine for getting off-topic, no worries xD Thank you!

@2Ton … xD I have no words, that’s just gold.

@random Yep it will be out in like July, a year after it was released in Japan X( You can play as a girl from the beginning, take a party of three into Dungeons, and there are monsters who turn into people~ I seriously doubt they’ll port it, we’re lucky to even get it at all (thank you Xseed ^:)^ )

@Katgirl64 *insert fangirl squeal here* But it’s too bad that it’s on the 3DS though, I guess I’m gonna have to wait another year or two before I get it then. Damn it.

@Katgirl64 As the hugest Fire Emblem fan I know, as well as a fellow player of DA, Rune Factory, Harvest Moon, and Pokemon - I say “Yes! Someone else shares my likes!” -fist pump-

I love it so far  Something new and I really can’t wait to see more. It’s so sad right now, you know it’s great when the reader can feel the emotions of the characters.

@Bagelthief I know that feel, haha. Yes!

@Ada Thank you! It’s great to know that you can feel the emotions of the characters, I was worried most about that part, haha.

Double post, but I thought it’d be better if I can see for some help.

Well… It’s been a long time since I’ve been frustrated over something, so I guess ChoiceScript took this chance to do so.

I’m currently coding this (in my standards, at least) long-ish conversation between the protagonist and the bartender, and since a different element would cause a different scene, I’ve been using *if commands to separate them, i.e *if (element=“fire”), but when it does get to that part, it loops back to the last label. And when I choose that option again, it says it is apparently ‘invalid’ to fall out of a *choice statement, but I don’t know what else to do, if not with the *if command.

Well, really, it’s hard to explain, so it’s better if you go through it yourself. It doesn’t matter what you pick until the bartender asks you what you are doing, and you are given a set of options to pick from. One of them is to tell the entire truth, which is the third option, and once you get to the end of it, it loops back to the scene where the bartender is asking you the question.

I’ve tried all the things that I do know, using labels instead and all that, but it didn’t work since when it comes down to it, it’s the *if command that has problems.

If needed, the link to the scene’s coding is here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/34991116/Devil’s%20Way/web/mygame/scenes/inn.txt

Any help on this is appreciated. Thank you!

Edit: Okay, well, I’ve figured out why it loops, and it’s because the #No command is below the #Yes one, so I’ve re-ordered them, but now it says that an indent that’s supposed to be 2 is actually 4, and I’m even more confused at that part now. It’s as if it ignores the *if command completely, but I don’t know why.

@Random Can you copy and paste the code so I can see?

The link has already been placed in the previous post. But i’ll just post it again.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/34991116/Devil’s%20Way/web/mygame/scenes/inn.txt

Just use command/control + F and search for “*if (element=“fire”)” to get smack dab to the middle of the coding that I’m having problems with.

oops XD I assumed that was the link to the game to play half-asleep sorry but ill get to work

@Random which line does it say has the indention thing?

Right after this line:

“Your eyes widen at this revelation and a cold shiver runs up your spine. You attempt to voice protests, but your lips do not move as you command it to, nor do your arms and legs.”

idk why it does that but I guess this happens when there is nothing to fall back on so I would just do this to test.

Your eyes widen at this revelation and a cold shiver runs up your spine. You attempt to voice protests, but your lips do not move as you command it to, nor do your arms and legs.
         *page_break
         *if (element="fire")
Before long, you begin to feel intense heat surround you, and searing pain start from your legs, and then beginning to spread to the rest of your body. Panic begins to overwhelm you, and the sight of the flames register in your head, but you could do nothing to stop it, not even scream or shout in pain. Aresha does nothing to lessen your pain, but only increases the heat as the seconds tick by, allowing your skin to melt and your bodily organs to burn…
           *line_break
           *line_break
Soon, the flames begin to die down, and only the burnt remains of bones and a pile of ashes is all that is left on the side of the road.
           *line_break
           *line_break
And just like that, your journey ends abruptly.
           *goto_scene death
         *elseif (element="water")
Before long, you begin to feel the air being knocked out of your lungs. You panic, attempting to breathe, but your body does not follow your orders, and the sensation of water in your lungs overwhelm you. The realization of drowning dawns upon you, all the while the water builds up in your lungs in a torturously slow pace. You choke on the amount of water being forced in your lungs, and you begin to lose consciousness…
           *line_break
           *line_break
Soon, the water stops flowing, and your body, its chest swollen in unimaginable proportions, is all that is left on the side of the road.
           *line_break
           *line_break
And just like that, your journey ends abruptly.
           *goto_scene death
         *elseif (element="wind")
Before long, you begin to feel the air being knocked out of your lungs. You panic, attempting to breathe, but your body does not follow your orders. Your eyes go into a frenzy as you panic, as not even a single bit of oxygen fills you up. You begin to feel a burning sensation from your empty lungs, and you feel as if someone had their grip on your throat and is choking you. You begin to lose consciousness from the lack of air…
           *line_break
           *line_break
Soon, the air flow returns to normal, and your asphyxiated body is all that is left on the side of the road.
           *line_break
           *line_break
And just like that, your journey ends abruptly.
           *goto_scene death

Before long, you begin to feel the land and the earth sway lightly underneath your legs. It is a small tremor at first, but you feel another one in a moment's time, and a more powerful one than the first in comparison. Slowly, more and more begin to dominate the area you are standing on, and your body could do nothing but stay its ground. The tremors begin to build up in magnitude, and it continues until a large fissure opens up in the ground beneath you…
         *line_break
         *line_break
Soon, the tremors stop, and only a crevice is left on the side of the road.
         *line_break
         *line_break
And just like that, your journey ends abruptly.
         *goto_scene death

back the earth one up by two spaces to see what happens.

Tried that, but well, even when my element was fire, it showed the earth ending instead. I don’t get why, and I’m not sure what to do to fix this. I’m still trying to think of various other ways to get this working, hopefully not through an *if command.
