We’re super excited for the announcement of two upcoming games, Hunter: The Reckoning — A Time of Monsters and Hunter: The Reckoning — Day for Night. What’s more, A Time of Monsters will be coming out in just one month, on November 13th!

Today, for the first time, you can try the free demo for A Time of Monsters on Steam! (Don’t forget to add both games to your Steam wishlist! The more wishlists we get, the better the game will do on Steam on release day.) Additionally, tune in to the World of Darkness Twitch at 11am Eastern to watch Huddy stream the demo.

Topple the vampires from the streets below! Will you unite the homeless, the gangs, and the secret hunter societies to defy vampiric rule?

Hunter: The Reckoning — A Time of Monsters is an interactive novel by Paul Wang, set in the World of Darkness. It’s entirely text-based, one million words and hundreds of choices, without graphics or sound effects, and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

These monsters aren’t just in the movies! Will you hunt the vampires, werewolves and others stalking Hollywood, or will you become a monster instead?

Hunter: The Reckoning – Day for Night is an interactive novel by Josh Labelle set in the World of Darkness. It’s entirely text-based, 900,000 words and hundreds of choices, without graphics or sound effects, and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

Demo for a time of monsters is absolutely exquisite. Contains the vibe of WoD like nothing else. Now, weeks of torturous waiting…

EDIT:Okay, @Cataphrak , I have to ask, when choosing last name, is Chapman a deliberate reference?

It isn’t actually.

A lot of the premade names are actually from my first round of playtesters (the ones who signed NDAs and stuff).

Thanks for answering! Neat coincidence.

I have questions that I suspect just cannot be answered but I wonder anyway so I’ll ask.

I think it’s cool that we’re getting new WoD titles focusing on Hunters, just as we got the Werewolves games. Vampire is fun and all but it’s awesome to get the other perspectives.

How does the process work? Do authors and CoG pitch an idea to Paradox, or does Paradox have outlines and they ask for proposals?

I am asking mainly because I’m interested in whether there is a particular strategy in expanding the stories coming from Paradox or coming from just the best proposals that get approved. Is there an overarching plan to expand to Mage, Demon, Wraith, and Changeling eventually?

This is truly ambitious I’ve been hearing a lot about vampire stories lately it was a choice of games but never like this different concept and idea Wonder how this is going to play out

Will there be a demo available not on steam? Im used to reading on my phone and I really want to read . Will there be more white wolf stories and if so will you be able to play as a vampire or a werewolf etc?

@Cataphrak

Stats page : ‘Switch to the map of Greater Vancouver’ redirect you to a blank page.

Beginning of act 1 : ‘[References Updated: Cavalier Secuirty]’ should be ‘[References Updated: Cavalier Security]’.

I am pleased with this development. CoG since the last few months was getting filled with totally absurd steampunk stories with zero plot-binding, negative depth characters and inconclusive endings. It seems that nobody is interested in writing any realistic story set in the modern world or based on an accurate historical event any more, or the devs themselves have stopped selecting such stories.

Will there be a web browser demo?

Or even stuff from New World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness. I’d love to see a story set in Vampire: The requiem.

I don’t think there’s a strategy. It’s very much about what stories the authors involved want to tell. I think Paradox had certain parameters in place, like all lore has to conform to the latest release, but the details are mostly worked out between CoG and the authors involved, subject to Paradox approval. Nothing I’ve heard about the process, including what I’ve heard directly from the authors involved, suggests there’s any pressure to work with specific aspects of the IP. And as much as I would enjoy exploring some different dimensions of the World of Darkness, it’s probably for the best that it’s done this way, with authors writing in worlds that they know well from their own role-playing experiences, telling stories they’re genuinely excited to write, rather than having to delve into a new mythos and try to come up with something that fits.

This is correct. Authors pitch CoG on a WoD game they want to write. If they like it, CoG tentatively greenlights it, with the caveat that it passes muster with WoD, then WoD has a say, mostly about which elements need to change to align with their current editions or strategies.

Unless they’re already in the works, I think it’ll be unlikely that we get a Changeling, Wraith, or Mage game before the current licensing arrangement expires, mostly because there doesn’t seem to be much appetite from WoD for giving those games 5th editions. There isn’t any directive that I know about saying that the CoG games need to be based on 5e rulebooks, but authors do give up more rights for these WoD games than for games with their own original settings, so it behooves authors to get the most “bang for their buck” by using a fresh new system to help gain extra marketing and interest. Also, it would be devastating to learn there’s a new system which retcons core elements of your CoG story while you’re still writing it, or worse, just as it’s being released.

All of that makes sense. I suppose I was thinking about the WoD property as a whole and how they might be planning their strategy for that IP. There’s bound to be a big bump in interest with the Bloodlines 2 release coming up.

Yeah I think a lot of people are holding their breath for Bloodlines 2 to see what happens.

While we’re all waiting for these two awesome Hunter games, let’s join the World of Darkness to help bring the Reckoning to those who would threaten our planet’s wonderful sea life.

Once again, Humble Bundle is celebrating spooky season by offering a huge bundle of WoD stuff at a ridiculously low price to rise money for a good cause, in this case Whale and Dolphin Conservation. For $25, you can get nearly a thousand dollars’ worth of content - most notably, the core rulebooks for Hunter: The Reckoning, Vampire: The Masquerade, and Werewolf: The Apocalypse, but also supplemental materials, game scenarios, and stories. Whether you’re an experienced player, or you want to get started playing, or you just enjoy browsing the lore, or you want to make yourself a more valuable beta tester for the next two years of the CoG/WoD partnership (okay, maybe that’s just me), there’s sure to be something here you’ll find useful.

Clearly I have not being attention on here lately if I’m only just finding out @Cataphrak is publishing a World of Darkness game.
