Death Collector -- Severing tongues just became a career move

Who are the love intersts in this one?

Is it too late to say that after several years of playing IF games, this is still one of my absolute favourites? I’m a huge fan of the writing style and world building. The atmosphere is unparalleled. It’s bleak, interspersed with a pretty liberal sprinkling of dry humour. Just a delight to read and reread. I don’t typically go to Choice of Games for writing quality per se (as opposed to traditional novels, where the pool of writing is just so much larger) but Death Collector is one of the standouts. So many mysteries that make the rereads worthwhile too.

Not to say that it’s perfect (! I don’t think any game can be !) but I enjoyed it a lot more than what a brief skim of the reviews would suggest of its quality. I wish there were a sequel to this…

EDIT: Ok so I got back into my Death Collector obsession and did a bit of code diving. Some remarks about the ending:

When conviction1 and conviction2 are being checked in 10_endStates, nothing accounts for the conviction1 = “none” and conviction2 = “guilty” possibility. The control flow then means the player is forced to defaultDropIn, negating riots and unrest, even though riots should definitely occur if (yourStoryWinsMain) and (controversialTaleNeeded). I don’t know if this is intentional or not. I think that this shouldn’t happen since it occurs even when my PC has no silent harvests…

Still looking at assassination/RO assassination.

If you would be so kind, go write a review on Steam or GPS standalone…
