…Oh, I hadn’t even thought about using if clauses in the text body. Didn’t realize that would work. That would definitely save pages and headaches.
Oh yes, this is how most of my work is written. For another example, earlier in Chapter 9 I do it mid sentence.
You do need to be careful of spacing. If take that same piece above and space as follow you will get the results below that.
Will come out as
So long as you do not make those paragraph spaces between it’ll chain it together mid sentance.
Yes it would! Do not get me wrong, I also use *label a lot too. *if and *goto are my main ways of writing this.
Well this has been a rather productive week for writing. This last route is coming out much longer than expected due to the amount of times I have to check for fears/abilities/flaws and needing to write a different version of the same event. I am enjoying writing this hero more than the others so far, which is saying something as I like Lugh.
Is there anything anyone would like me to talk about more in these updates? I more or less am just giving a small rambling and am not sure what to include sometimes.
I have decided a plan for the order I’m going to tackle some of my to-do list. The rest is still on the list, but I’m not sure when I’m going to be getting to it, yet. The order is subject to change.
1.14 Week’s end update
- Fixed the romance description in the first post for Austin/Aurora. The character is IT not CCO.
Still working on (everything after the first four are not in any order):
-
- Chapter 9 final route.
-
- Heroic Identity Costume Revamp
-
- Battle text for hidden fight in Chapter 8 CEO route
-
- A new Job: Factory Worker route most likely
- Alternative Chapter 7 encounter
- Chapter 10
- Custom gadget system
- Adding more power options/uses to the story
I have a question about the SHR, is it the higher the better, and who as of now with characters we meet has the highest?
Also, love a lot of the other heroes. It seems very though out especially with val’s ex.
The higher the SHR the overall more powerful you are perceived, not the more powerful you actually are.
When the numbers get high enough the difference in ability to fight each other can almost become negligible. A 7 vs an 8 are even enough footing that either could win with the right tactics.
A well focused 4 or 5 could win against a 7. Some times the SHR gives a false impression of power when instead it is the diversity of powers that lifts the rank or limitations that lower it. Someone with power armor has a lower SHR than someone with natural powers when they have have the same statistics due to the limitation of not always having access to those powers.
Aegis and Lugh have the highest. I have changed the calculation since the last time I tried to figure out who had the highest score. I think Aegis may now be on top.
Well thank you! I am a little dissatisfied with Camouflage’s initial appearance and will likely go back over that route in the future. Hopefully I have keep the Val and their Ex story line interesting enough. I reread over the first draft of where I was going in future chapters and have found a few scenes that will need to be cut and replaced. Hopefully once I get that far in this draft I will have a good direction of what to replace those scenes with.
Can you add claws I like animal powers specifically cat or werewolf and being able to create a lighting cat hero would be cool. Just a suggestion. I understand if it’s a bit to much
I will add it to a list of possible later additions. There is so many powers to juggle at the moment that I do not have plans to implement additional abilities. There is a chance that I will later add options or if I ever get to a sequel I do plan on adding more options. I need to get the first one completed before really looking into that. I’ve been working on Chapter nine for over three months, so this might be longer than I was originally anticipating.
So is the highest SHR 10? In a previous version of the game we could get our hero to be rank 10, now maximum is 8 I think, or are there any heroes that go even beyond the 10 ranking? also as the story progresses do you have any plans of the mc’s powers evolving/upgrading?
There is no official maximum SHR, but I think the highest you can currently achieve is 8. I may I tweak the calculations in the future, so that may change. Very astute observation. For the duration of this story no hero can get beyond an 8. The master villain though? I have not run them through the system. They might be able to push beyond it.
There will be no mid-story progress in powers, what you make at the beginning you keep. Now you may end up acquiring/crafting technology in the story, but once your powers are in they are set. If I ever make a sequel then I will give an option to upgrade/add.
This makes planning an managing things a little easier, so this story is a bit about learning to have the powers it seems a bit soon to upgrade them. I mean you can literally max your strength out by chapter 3 if you know what you are doing. Can’t really go up from there.
I was asking mostly because of telekinesis and earth since telekinetics can only manipulate 46kg at most and earthkinetics can only manipulate 90kg at most, so I was wondering if mc would ever be able to push that limit since right now telekinetics can’t lift adults or several things at once, and earthkinetics are vastly limited by the environment, even if earthkinetics were on favorable environments they wouldn’t be able to throw boulders, or stuff like that, only chunks of earth/stones, small stones, although if they can manipulate earth like toph for example that wouldn’t matter
Ah, I can understand that. I am not against lifting how powerful those abilities are during character creation. I may review it an make the telekinesis and other powers more powerful. The ability to move things without touching it can be quite powerful so I did not want it to match super strength at all. I can bend to letting it be better than someone’s standard strength.
Maybe I can attach it to a stat like Shrewd or Stamina? I’ll think it over.
At that point they would would be able to create entire continents with ease. Just like every other earth bender is supposedly capable of doing.
To be fair, you can do a lot with 90kg of rock. It may not be avatar crazy, but that will kill or maim on contact when you add velocity behind it.
Right now I have it set up with a math formula to auto calculate how much weight it is able to handle. Looking forward to if I do a second book, leaving the math as it stands now, in the next book you could get to 204kg/450lb if I lift the limits to level 6.
Also keep in mind this was the limit “without considerable effort.” Meaning they can lift beyond this if they push it. Think of it more as a semi-casual lift limit. I still may lift this limit as I do recognize that it does not feel as powerful as comics and other media makes it seem.
So this final route for Chapter 9 I divided into four parts for me to map out how I’m writing it. Part 1 is a stealth approach. Part 2 is the brute force approach. Part 3 is the part where either approach will lead to. Part 4 is the post mission part (IE meeting the reporter or police officer).
I have drafted Part 1. It will have different character interactions and leave different impressions on the new hero compared to Part 2. I am currently working on Part 2 and this will take me a lot longer to write given that it involves more combat which means I need to write things for more powers.
I am thinking over @Godspeed 's point of how weak the different kinetics are. When looking at the fact that super strength can bench 50k when maxed it makes everything else extremely weak (even though benching something is not the same as a lift strength). So I will either be lowering the Super Strength, or giving kinesis a big lift.
Speaking of kinetics. I have been thinking of doing away with the “elements” section of powers and instead turning them into different flaws built into the telekinesis power. This would not apply to the premade builds, just the custom builds.
Ex Telekinesis with a Flaw “Only works on Fire”.
Alternatively it could be a drop down all its own where you can select an element or the ability to move anything. Like the options for selecting if something is Inherent.
Thoughts on this? I would appreciate any feedback.

Not THAT powerful I was thinking more like some of the stuff you see here Naruto 19 Minutes of Earth Style Doton All of Earth Style HD - YouTube, (warning if you’d like to watch naruto don’t watch this video as it may contain spoilers) some of the most weak stuff of couse for balancing
I think the elemental powers are fine as they are for custom builds. And think only the telekinesis should be amped up and super strength left at where it stands.
I think the earth power is still too limited in the ranged sense, for melee it is an excelent power much more so if you have the earth durability flaw, but for ranged I think it’s very limited right now, one way to amp it up in reasonable terms would be if mc has the power to manipulate any kind of earth, still has difficulty with concrete, but basically he could control dust, soil, mud, sand etc… dust is basically everywhere so maybe he could find a way to use it effectively(make dust clouds to blind the opponent, blend with dust, gather dust into a single dust bullet) in a rainy day in a forest he’d be op as heck since he could trap basically anyone with mud, and on the beach he wouldn’t be weak at all in the case he was fighting someone with water powers, telekinesis right now is pretty weak so it should be amped up but I dunno by how much, maybe so you can lift adult human beings? that would be enough I think, since with acute manipulation you can force choke someone, or simply send them flying as ragdolls, these 2 powers seem the most weak compared to everything else so that was the why of my suggestion, I mean super strength let’s you be a 50 toner, and super-speed at max is short of reaching sound speed, I mean mc literally becomes the fastest thing on earth able to outrun bullet trains, and even the fastest car on earth, only planes are still faster
if I can’t go jean grey in the last stand with telekinesis then what’s the point? lol also there are a lot of other uses for geokinesis that isn’t as often seen such as splitting the ground at an opponents feet to swallow them up then closing it to suffocate them in the earth
I am not against adding creative ways to use powers, however I do try to put in limitations for powers and how they function. Building in natural weaknesses would allow to challenges in later fights that must be overcome rather than ignored.
If/when I amp this up, it’ll be able to handle much more. More so if you want to replicate Magneto, need to be able to lift more than two humans. Now I don’t expect to lift it to Magneto’s power immediately. I want lifts over the course of different books.
Well, I do plan on making it better balanced than it is now. Full Jean Grey? It’ll take more books before we can get to that level of control.
I do love seeing these tricks when watching shows! With me trying to build in weaknesses I also try to think out how these would function in the real world, you know with a little embellishment. I may end up using this trick at one time, but there are things a Geomancer need to think about when doing this trick. I’ll cover that when this trick is used.
