I chose Malice.
Believe me,if my character gets a chance to seriously injure someone, she WILL take it.

Are you a fan of shadowrun?
Nice eye there indeed I am
If I don’t romance someone in the first part, can I do it in this one? Also will there be more romances added?
Can you take an “on ramp” to a new RO in Part 2? Maybe! But at some point you will reach “break up with X or just be single” territory because “romantic musical chairs” is a PITA to code and write.
And more romances? Maybe!
And my vacation to work on CCH actually starts at 5PM EST today! FandomFest starts tomorrow, but not until 3:30pm, so that gives me a half day to write.
I’ve gotta say those Zenith combos are amazing. I was kinda skeptical about mixing super strength and force field together because i felt super speed was a better match with Super strength. Then i realized the amazing(and less broken) possibilities of SS and FF. Just imagine reinforcing yourself with a skin tight force field, force field constructs; don’t even get me started on the amazing ways to use the other power combos. Great job dude😆
There are just a few things I’m worried about. You know how being a tactician gives you closer relationship with your classmates by helping them reach their full potential and still being a more downto earth hero. So will choosing the zenith route mean you’ll just be that guy who forgets his friends after getting a little stroke of luck?
Cause my Hero Ryuga isn’t like that. His a guy who enjoys using his natural fighting skills to bring down bad people while also helping his friends improve as well:sunglasses:. I know how you like making sure we think three times before every decision(that’s what makes this book so much better than most choice of games books) and remind us we can’t have everything. I was just REALLY curious about it.
P.S. Thanks for giving us a taste of the sure to be amazing Part 2😃
To be honest for me, the Zenith route is probably the one I’ll be least likely to follow. The MC in this game is entirely so special because they have no Zenith powers and are still ultimate badasses. I don’t know, I feel like gaining powers after all that effort to dominate as Captain Powerless is wrong in a way. I’m for Tactician, using your wits and your people skills to come out on top in a world full of super heroes. Feels like more of an achievement. Becoming the second Doctor Stench is another good one too, because it has such a strong family connection, and I think it especially rubs in the face of The Diabolical Dozen.
But anyway, wanted to say, this is an amazing series, thanks so much for all your time and effort.
That DOES make sense. However, you need to think about it a little more.
Sure, becoming a master Tactician or inheriting your dad’s equipment will make your way stronger than you were, but overall you might think that getting into the superhero business without superpowers is suicide.
And the superpowers aren’t really anything world breaking, they’re just the basics, like super strength, force fields, telepathy and so on.
Also,there are the stats.
I just don’t feel right making my MC who specializes in strength and defense pick an archetype that is focused heavily on intelligence.I really don’t know why,I just don’t.And yet, despite that,I still really want to do it.I’m a weird person,I know.
Honestly,I think all of the paths are overpowered and badass as all hell and they’re all great.
Right? Can’t a brawler still have super powers and use their brains?
Plus what’s wrong with desiring power so that another one of your friends don’t die
I know the ‘special’ part of your MC is that they don’t have powers, and that giving them powers might ruin it.But,to be honest,I really wouldn’t mind if the story is written in a way that shows that the MC worked their ass off to get them.
If the MC’s powers just magically decided to appear out of nowhere? Not cool.
If the MC did countless hours of research and study on the subject, leading them to finally unlock their powers? Pretty damn cool.
Exactly!!
As long as we are forced to work really hard to get and improve said powers it’ll still be an epic story. Also, it’s not cheating if everyone else is doing it and is not illegal.
I won’t lie though, being a tactician is still better in terms of story quality and character wise. Taking a team of people labeled as rejects or weaklings and turning them into an elite force while relying only on your terrifyingly intelligent mind is the very definition of badass. Not only are you a hero without powers, but you become a legend along side your friends.Too bad the Zenith route isn’t as grand but i still think it’s totally worth playing. Those conspiracy blogs are just too interesting to overlook.
Let’s just agree that this game has everything.
And that everything in it is amazing.
Seriously,I’m going to tear myself up thinking about whether to go Tactician route or Zenith Power route.
Just think about it like this.
There aren’t really any requirements for the special archetypes. So you can pick whichever one regardless of stats and still have their amazing benefits.
I also saw that you didn’t feel right putting a character with strength and durability in an archetype which relies on intelligence. However, that’s actually pretty good for a character.
Now considering your character has high Pow and Thud,I’m going to assume they are an Acrobat. An Acrobats main stats are Pow,Thud and Whoosh. Now,naturally, you’d want to invest in the Pow/Thud Zenith Combo,so you can utilize their high stats in those 2 categories.HOWEVER,if you picked Tactician, your Hmmm stat will just ass blast through the roof (Eric said himself that the Tactician has off the charts Hmm increases).
So now,not only does your character have naturally high Pow,Thud and Whoosh stats but they also gained a high Hmmm stat along the way.All of this while training your group to be the very best. And you’re still the powerless student.
It’s a win/win/win,if you ask me.
I’ll probably try each route.
Detective + Tactician = become Batman. Beat anyone given prep time.
Sharpshooter + Stench gear = End up throwing stink bombs I guess. Seems weird but may pair with DG’s power set?
Soldier/Acrobat + Z powers = I’ll have to pick a power set. I liked the force field idea for my detective but it seems like it will end up being better suited for a bruiser. Though maybe I could stick with it and make her like Jessica Jones.
Level 1 Acrobat
Pow: 6
Zap: 1
Thud: 5
Whoosh: 7
Shhh: 2
Hmmm: 2
Yay: 9%
Ouch: 69%
Considering how much of a beatdown that was, I was expecting for my Ouch meter to be a lot higher.
@Xukundi
Sounds pretty awesome actually.
I wonder if super strength and force field would go great with a detective since that archtype lacks thud
The following is my opinion, take or leave it as you will.
The strength of @Eric_Moser 's story is his world building and characters. Whether these characters are zenith or not really is immaterial. The material part of the story is your community and its nemesis group that has ties to your family.
Having zenith powers evolve or mature doesn’t change anything except give those of us who don’t appreciate being on roller-blades and pseudo-batmen Dick Tracy wannabes a chance to enjoy @Eric_Moser’s world and characters more than we’d otherwise be able to.
Having multiple paths is a way more of his audience can really connect with such a wonderful and deep world. I actually am attracted to the possibilities of multiple paths and this means more replayability for me and actually experiencing Eric’s world even more.
The MC is special in this world because Eric has found a way to bring a unique and totally believable super-hero world to life and include us all in it. He’s just expanding that to include more of his readers.
I don’t enjoy Marvel’s world or DC comics take on everything and I hate Gotham being the standard for comparison to every world built for super heroes…
Eric has provided me a believable world where there are super heroes - zenith or not, I can enjoy it all.
Yeah, you make a good point, I know the powers aren’t going to come out of nowhere, since it’s written that the MC was exposed to Zenith radiation in the womb, it’s not getting pulled of thin air, it has a foreshadowed basis. Just to clear things up, I role play a lot of different characters, my main will definitely be going tactician and that’s what my feelings were in regards to. I’ve absolutely no problem with Zenith powers being the game, and will definitely unlock them with another character. As has been stated, I’m a great fan of the multiple paths and replayability. This game is definitely awesome and I’m not begrudging the appearance of powers. Powers or no powers, our character will always be a potential badass, whether they’re closer to Batman or Superman makes no difference.
@Eiwynn
Well said man. I honestly can’t wait for late december
Before I give thoughts/feedback on the book 2 demo, I’d like to go on a bit of a,…I tried to google the nicest version of"rant" but came up short, so lets just say a nice rant, of book 1. I wanted to post this somewhere where you’d see it, I was thinking the steam forums maybe, but in my Bi-weekly google of " Community college hero 2", cuz I was fiending for any news, lemme tell you, I found this topic.
To put it simply, Community College hero is my favorite Choice of games…game…of all time, and 1 of my favorite games of all time period. It was 1 of the first games of this genre that I played and the game that really got me hooked on them. To this day it remains the ONLY choice of games…game…im just going to say choice game, that I’ve played through more than once. You see USUALLY(which means with every other choice game but this 1), after I play through a choice game all the way 1nce, thats it, thats my canon, usually because I couldn’t see myself making different choices, the way it ended was satisfying to me and I cant imagine it ending differently, For example, In choice of robots I made a robot that could love and I couldnt I couldnt imagine going any other way like war robots or whatever, I mean, I could go with a different RO, but I’d just end up romancing the love robot in the end anyway
Community college hero remains to this day the only choice game that not only had more than 1 path that appealed to me, its the only choice game where pretty much every single path did, It was the first and only choice game that really made it difficult for me to decide…on well, my choices, which was ultimately what gave it sooo much replayability for me, every path has its up and downs, but is consistent in 1 thing, every single 1 of them is Satisfying
How to deal with the contrarion issue, the RO’s, deciding on where you want to suck up to the teachers or get the love of your classm8ts, every branching path has its moments and appeal that I love. In this series, I wont have any set in stone head canon.
To put things in perspective when I say this is the only choice game that I’ve played through more than 1nce, I dont mean, Ive played through like, 2, 3, or 7 times, I must have played though at least 20 something times (pretty big step from once) going through the different contrarian groups, ROs, friendships, achievments, ect.
I have different playthroughs romancing every lovely young lady gasp, excuse me, sorry about that =P, getting in good with different groups and professors, playthroughs where I dont romance any1 in the (very likely =P) possibility that stoic is an option in book 2, and I even have playthroughs romancing Mob. Now this is another first, I never romance the dude ROs in choice games, but Mob is just so goddamn well written IMO, If I could compare Mob to some1 in another series, Id say Mob is the Jon Snow of this series, thats the best way I can put it, hes the true hero, but isn’t loud or a martyr about it, In a world full of selfish and self centered people, AKA the real world, hes the guy who always strives to do the right thing, the real right thing, not just the pragmatic bottom line, even if he doesn’t get any credit for it, even if he gets screwed over because of it, even if people HATE him for it. The games just full of these little subtle moments, like the fact that hes dazed after the meeting with cpt cali, which means he refused to give up his classmates secrets that just makes me love the guy. I swear to christmas If you end up making mob the tr8tor, like im done, like, no heh =P Yeah Mobs probably my favorite character in the series, and even tho hes a dude,(and a vegetarian =P, I’m a pretty big carnivore tho I do love my fruits and veggies lol) he might be actually be my favorite RO, at least character and written wise, aesthetically, it’d have to be Tress, got a thing for redheads =P
As for Stunner and Crook, well like I said Mob was the exception to the rule, but I dont go for the male ROs. With Mob, it was my sense of admiration for the guy (and the feeling that he deserves some1 that can make him happy) that overrode that, but I didn’t feel that with stunner and crook,(at least not the admiration =P, as for deserving some1, well crook crook already kinda has some1 lol)not because they weren’t well written, noo, not in any sense, IMO, every character down to Hi-jinx in her own way, is well written =P But they (stunner and crook) were written in a way that, well, I did not like stunner much, hes a jackass, hes not JUST a jackass, but he has his jackass moments lol. Hes self centered and the “looking out for number 1” kind of guy that most of us try not to be even tho its kind of in our nature. He definitely has his sympathetic moments and is not a complete D-bag(more on that l8ter =P) and I imagine that If you romance him you get to see an even more sympathetic side of him, maybe, but definitely doesnt inspire anything from me, ALTHOUGH (and again more on this l8ter) from what we’ve seen, book 2 stunner is looking to be way more sympathetic, and is that some down to earthness I sense?? =O, jeez, must of been humbled a bit at the big leagues, huh buddy? =P
As for crook, well crook is my bro, thats the best way I can put it, its sucks tho because it looks like were gunna be at odds in book 2 for most of my playthroughs the way things were left off with him in book 1 I had a feeling it was gunna be that way, and from what we’ve seen of book 2, my predictions were pretty much confirmed, as much as I want to be loyal to my friends and stand by my classm8ts, I can’t just let this guy twist a knife into some dude, even if the dude is “bad guy”, like how are we any better than them at that point? Its just not heroic at all, not the right thing to do.
sigh Yeah I understand grief makes us do some shizz, but you didn’t see me going around shanking people when I lost my grandparents. Sorry Crook, can’t be doing that, no go. But don’t get me wrong, I love this character development and the strife that my choices with him are going to cause me. This is what makes this series so replayable to me in way nothing else has been able to compare.
But yeah, every RO is very well written, but I dont want you to think thats the only thing I love about this series lol (more like community college dating simulator amirite =P) Every single character is well written in their own way IMO, even the D-est of D-bags have their moments, (like when The hedonist struts in with his dapper self and charges at the contrarion, or at that point, the manipulator =P, when shes about to kill you, and then when Mr secret stealer cpt cali swoops in and gives you his (seemingly) sincere condolences about your fallen classm8, they end up being somewhat sympathetic near the end, which I love, because life and people especially are never black and white, love me some grey area
I LOOOOVE the tone of the series, where it can be light hearted and charming 1 moment, and dark and philisophical the next I read your posts on the steam forums about wanting to make speck its own living breathing entity with its own personality and charm, like pawnee from parks and rec, and I love it, and IMO, you’ve already gone a good way towards doing this,
The lore and background you’ve created for this series is absolutely fantastic, its fascinating, its fabulous, its triple F certified, but srsly I’m so into it.
I also have to mention that this series has consistently been able to make me laugh, which isnt the hardest thing to accomplish admittedly, but the amount of times its been able to do so is very impressive, whether its the deliciously cheesy jokester lines, (which is what I just have to go for most of the time =P) or the amaaaaazing character dialogue (omg the spiked gladiator LOL) You are just an amazing writer IMO. The variation in the personalities of the characters, and the believable consistency of those personalities makes me feel invested in even the minor characters, like my dude the spiked gladiator, or Rain and shine. Hell even Hi-Jinx got my number, that scene at the end with her and stunner, that, I like that.
Now before I get to my book two feedback, I just want to sum up and say, first of all, sorry for my rambling and the way I wrote things, grammar ect, I tend to, in situation like these, when I want to say something to some1 like this, type how I speak IRL, like whatever comes to mind I write it down as its comes, and I usually dont go back and redo things, since you cant do that IRL =P, once you’ve said something to some1, you’ve said it, regardless of whatever, its out there, this tends to makes my post rambly and carry onish, but I find that it lets me express myself and what I want to say as sincerely as I can through text.
Second, the reason I wanted to type all of this above all is to 1: thank you sooo much for this series, I am absolutely in love with it, I can’t tell you how much admiration I have for your writing and what you’re doing. Ive gotten more enjoyment and time out of book 1 that I paid (I think it was 3:99? cant recall exact price lol, somewhere around there) than I have out of countless games I’ve paid 60 plus dollars for, its just amazing, 2: let you know that you are appreciated, that I appreciate you. In case you ever, for any reason, have doubts about what you are doing and whether its worthwhile I just want to to know that you definitely have a diehard fan in me, who is looking forward so much to the continuation of this series
Also Im sorry If some of the spoiler warnings were dumb or not needed, or If I broke some rules somehow lol, this is my first post on this forum on an account I made today, specifically so that I could say this to you, and I really dont want for it to be deleted =O Honestly, with how much I enjoy the games from here, I prob should have an account long ago, but the need to communicate this to you was what finally got me to do so =P
Now finally on to book two thoughts and the book 2 demo, phew amirite, again sorry for the rambling heh, but yeah lets uh, let get to it
Okay, so first of all, yusssss, the universe has smiled on me, even a sip of book two is enough to make my week, I was googling “community college hero 2” every couple of weeks for a long time now, for any info on the upcoming mastapiece, and it def paid off when I found this topic. Goes without saying but, bookmarked =P
I read in a couple of places(steam forums ect) that you were planning on making it 3 archtypes instead of 4, taking out acrobat, which I found kinda disappointing since acrobat was def my favorite by far, I always go for the most mobile character types/builds/classes, in games, and I prefer melee to ranged, (unless its lazers wink =P) I’m also not into stealth, I like to be loud and in your face, zooming around, being flashy as all heck, and acrobat pretty much checked off everything on the list. I understood why you were going to do so tho, much easier to code ect, and the Idea of a flying lazer dude sounds absolutely awesome, so like, im down for that power combo, but then I saw that acrobat was included in this demo, so idk If thats just for this build of the demo, or you decided to bring him back after all, sorry If this was already answered
So if acrobat is back 1 worry I have to express is that if were still getting 3 power combo options, im def gunna go with whatever flying is paired with, cuz mobility trumps all for me, but if that has to be paired with lazer(which again, I am very much into, lazers are the 1 thing im willing to go ranged for =P, pew pew) acrobat ZAP, as every1 well knows heh, is pretty lacking lol, hes a bad shot, so my concern is if I pick acro, which is my fave and go to, and we get lazers, that the increase to ZAP will be enough to offset that, and that we won’t be whiffing lazer shots left and right lol
I have to say the number 1 thing Im looking forward to in book 2, even more so than getting the superpowers themself, is your classma8ts reactions to you getting them, all of a sudden captain powerless has like level 8 zenith powers, hope there is a dialogue where you joke around with dirty girl if you changed your name in book 1 about having to change your name again since it doesn’t make much sense anymore lol, (But even If we CAN change it back, im not going to do so lol, I love the Captain Powerless name, and the delicious Irony of it after I get my powers, will make it even better)
Because honestly the best part of this series for me, was never the gameplay aspect,( arhctypes ect, although It Is AMAZING like every other part =P) but the interaction between you and your classm8s, (Your RO especially =P) and every other character, the amazing character interaction, and choice you have in those interactions, really seals the deal for me. I cant wait for your RO to see you suddenly become this huge big shot powered, and see how this changes the dynamic with them, maybe either positively or negatively depending on how you choose to handle everything, maybe some characters can decide to pull a book 1 stunner and decide the people of speck aren’t big time enough for them anymore, (some of the options, mostly the self options, in the book 2 demo, seem centered around this kind of person, and seem to allude to this possibility, which is exciting, I love having different heart wrenching choices like this to torture myself with lol) Maybe there can be a (relatively high leveled, maybe 6 or 7) super hero/heroine character hanging around speck maybe as an informant for prestige in book 2 that looks down on you at the beginning, but once you become a big shot, starts flirting with you, and you can choose to romance them (maybe you have to have a certain amount of yay, I dont know how valuable yay will be in book 2, didn’t seem to make much a difference in book 1, tho it did feel good impressing the townspeople in the football game and swinging into action =P, but stuff like this this could be a good way of making it worthwhile, since you’re gunna be giving up stat boosts and stuff from hanging out with your mom and other options we will see in the future to raise it) Of course this wont be no tress, this RO is obvi going to be in it for the fame, but if you make them out to be super attractive, its enough of a reason for a self centered MC to go for it. ( Didnt realize it till I was almost done typing out the idea, but I definitely, subconsciously took some inspiration from chapter 2 black magic here =P)
Decisions and paths like this will really let us have a wide of possible of different MC from fame hungry and self centered, to loyal and down to earth, and every variation/combination thereof. Of course that just an Idea/thought I had, Im just so excited, talking about it like this helps with the wait lol, sorry about that, lets move on to specifics of the demo, namely your mom and the fight!
Okay first your mom
Oh my goodness is this character just perfect, Id say my IRL mother was a good combination of the cheerleader and worrywart tropes growing up, def leaning a bit more towards worrywart =P
So when I tell you that some of the dialogue and scenes with both of these is so extremely well written, I mean it in the most personal way possible. It was so gosh darn relatable to me, its as if you you took pages from moments in my life and just slapped it on there, It was honestly almost scary lol.
Ok now for the untamed and Wyvern fight.
Alright I have to say, I feel like, especially if you are level 3, you should be able to kick the two untamed thugs butts no prob, as long as you make the correct choices that correspond with your archtype, (like not trying to be stealthy as a soldier lol) Like how can I explain this heh, I’ve been typing this for a while and im starting to get tired lol, sorry, Ill try my best to articulate my thoughts into words, or text as the case may be =P,
Like here you are, after going through a whole semester of training, (not to mention all the training you’ve done beforehand, hello judo trophy =P) and you’re pretty impressively equipped compared to the average dude, it can at the very least be said that you are not some average citizen, And here are these two common gang thugs, who for the most part, rely on intimidation/size and common handheld weapons, who the most training they probably have is that barbell set they have in their basement, if that,
like theres is a reason you usually see batman and robin or whatever just plow through these common thugs, they are just cannon fodder, big drunk dudes with knives against people who have actually been training their bodys and minds as weapons, its not even fair, and it shouldn’t be, its when they get to the big boss that things begin to become more even, and that makes it epic, it allows the medium to show that these people (both hero and villain) are above and beyond the average dude by far, even if they don’t have powers(as the case may or may not be), whether its thru mental or physical fortitude, or both.
Now Im not comparing our MC at the beginning of book 2 to batman or even robin by any means haha, noooo, dont get it twisted, like its not even close, nah lol, but we are something above average, or we should be, and to have us get our butts decently kicked by the Untamed (or to have trouble taking them down, like It felt like my character was slipping all over the place in the snow lol, maybe the whiskey i smelled wasn’t on CROOKS breath =P) feels crummy
I understand the sentiment of wanting to show that your character isn’t invincible and to modest the reader up at the beginning so that when we actually get our powers, suit, become tactician ect, and start kicking some srs butt, the sense of progression is that much more satisfying, and the reader can think back to when they got their butt kicked at the beginning and be like, “haha look at me now!!”
But I feel like the Wyvern fight already serves that purpose in its complete entirety. What I feel like would be better, is (again if you make decent decisions for your archtype lol) to have have us take care of the two untamed thugs no problem, then here we as the reader feeling good about ourselves, thinking damn, my character can take care of themselves, I mean its our introduction back to our character after a while and having us have a moment of feeling badass or above average right there, I feel is important, and while you’re standing there thinking about how great you are or how this heroing thing isnt as hard you thought it was going to be, or whatever the case may be, !!BOOM!!, you are suddenly hit back by a blast, whats that?? Oh no! Its the Wyvern here to humble you up!! To remind you that your foes aren’t all going to be common street thugs and you are still the powerless kid in an occupation with big dogs like him( or dragons as the case may be =P)
I feel like that’s a better sense of…(is pacing the term, sorry hehe, i think pacing is the term) but like as for the Wyvern fight itself, its pretty on point, humbling with still some chances to feel badass for holding your own in some moments against unbelievably overwhelming odds.
Really, the only complaint I have is if you choose to go with taunting him into following you so you can keep the homeless guy and crook safe at the expense of your own safety, you get told that the homeless guy thought you were running away to save yourself, and you lose YAY. I noticed that there is an option for this to actually be the reason you run away, and I feel like there should be a distinction between the two, if the homeless sees me taunt the wyvern into following me and not sneak away while hes distracted, I dont think he should think I did it to save myself, especially since the chase scene is our moment to shine as a mobility guy, and is so extremely well written, I dont think it should give you as much yay as if you decide to keep standing up and take a beating, but it should be recognized that you’re making this suited up jetpacked monster follow you. That takes guts dude.
Choosing to actually sneak away for the self concerned characters should also have its own benefit, to keep it from being a throwaway choice, while it would lose you yay, maybe after you sneak away you are able to rest up and heal some ouch since you didnt need to strain yourself by running away in a chase, (this may be what actually already happens in this case for all I know Tbh, since I couldnt bring myself to choose this option lol, and acro’s arent sneaky anyway, so it wouldnt do me much good either way)
Having the different personality types give you benefits and consequences that reflect them in a realistic manner is important I feel. Like with self, you will always be looking out for yourself, so you might end up in the best position personally, (either through wealth, power, status, ect) but most of your classm8ts if not all and most of the other characters will dislike you, maybe that fame hungry RO will like your style tho =P
Ending notes hehe, phew, okay, if you actually read through all that, wow, just, thank you for taking the time, but lemme tell ya, I would not blame you at all if you skimmed a bit, (or alot haha)
I just wanna say again that I am such a huge fan and admirer of you work, and I hope that any thoughts or suggestions came off as respectful as possible and any criticism as constructive and again respectful. I hope you know that no matter what I am so looking forward to the continuation of this amazing series, and I wish you the absolute best in all of your future endeavors!!
