So I’m assuming calling her out is either the Jokester or Brooder option?
Also, I have a suggestion:
Remeber in the first game at the honkytonk, when you followed DG and she invited you to take drugs with her? If you weren’t dating her and said no, you lost relationship. BUT, if you were dating her and said no, you don’t suffer any penalties. I feel that you should bring this back in the car scenario, a choice where instead of scolding her, you kindly ask her to stop. I know you wanted to avoid the ‘perfect’ choice, but it’ll only be limited to those who romanced DG. I just don’t like seeing that I have a 57% relationship with my own girlfriend.
I was thinking about how our classmates powers might evolve.
I realized something, and if it’s true you are a genius.
The MC’s father was killed in prison. Since it’s guarded by Mega Cat it means it was done by a Zenith. We can also deduce that they had teleportation powers. First thing we think: The Manipulator.
However, the Dozen would not send one of their own right in Mega Cat claws (pun intended).
So instead, they send an agent. Someone with a criminal background, some sneaking experience and powers allowing infiltration.
There’s one person like that.
Crook. He’s the one that killed the MC’s father.
There’s plenty of hints:
-he has the sneaking experience (“It’s alright, you two. It took me years to get where I am.”)
-he knows the dozen (“Don’t mess with them though. Just one of them could kill everyone in the state of Nebraska.”)
-he was probably a villain ("“If you’re careful enough, you can get around anyone. Gangbangers, crooks, even cops. Doesn’t make any difference.” You’re not sure what to make of the stories. Are they just drunken ramblings? Or do they possess some sliver of truth? And if they’re true, does it mean Crook was a hero before joining Speck? Or even a villain?").
Why change sides then?
My guess is that Crook is in his mid-twenties, thirty at most. He used to be a villain and mostly he was a thief. He marries, have a child perhaps even stop being a criminal.
Then one day the Dozen blackmails him into infiltrating the prison. He regrets the act and to atone, he chooses to become a hero. He goes to speck because it’s in the middle of nowhere, no chance for him to be recognized. That’s why he mentions joining the school was “something [he] needed to do”.
I honestly tell her that I’d love to attend Savior School, if they would ever admit me.
*set savior %+20
*goto prestige_sadie
Should be savior_sadie
I romanced DG and couldn’t choose 'I know Dirty Girl has her own drug issues. Maybe I can get her to bond with them." because I chose “didn’t get involved with her drug issues”. But when you romance her, you will automatically know her secret, even it you don’t use ecstasy with her.
Arguments in favor:
-has the background (he sneaked around cops etc.)
-has similar skills (sneaky, great aim)
-has a wife and child (never mentioned their age)
-Origami was (is?) 13. That’s possibly the MC’s age when he last saw them; hence why her death touched him so much.
-one quote from dad: “These CEOs living in five million dollar homes and earning 200 times the wages of their workers are the real crooks. Don’t ever forget that.”
-he knew the MC was going to apply for Speck (they’re not a Zenith so it might be their only chance at becoming a hero) which is why it was “something [he] needed to do”.
-it explains why he doesn’t give a name; for common names such as William (my case) it might pass. For uncommon names, given the MC might have suspicions of his past, it might give away his identity.
-his age. His mask is composed of a hood and a domino mask. However it might be useful to hide wrinkles and he might simply dye his hair (with the info we have in book two, I deduced he was 50).
Counter-arguments:
-the age. We haven’t seen his physical prowess, but unless he’s really well preserved, it’s impossible for him to have perfect shape (that could justify why the Untamed destroyed him).
-the flirting. Seriously do I need to explain? That would make everything pretty gross. Then again the taskmaster mom replies to a charming answer by saying “Your father was great with that BS. You, not so much”. So the personnalities might match.
-more because of lack of information but how did he survive/escape? Did the Dozen (agent) mistook his cellmate for him? That would mean he traded his information against freedom and a new identity/silence about his survival. Perhaps the deal was his freedom and in exchange he spies on Speck?
-the MC’s proximity. He spends a whole semester with them and they don’t recognize him? Then again he might be harsher because of the assassination attempt and/or his time in prison.
Now I feel it might be a exaggerated. I think that while this one would be awesome and heartwarming, the first would make more sense storywise.
Yeah, it’s an interesting theory but I feel like the first has more evidence. I’m not sure whether it’s legit or not–honestly, as interesting as it would be story-wise I’d kind of rather Crook not really have anything to do with the MC’s backstory. You’ve laid out some interesting evidence and if it turns out being canon then I won’t complain, but as is I feel like it just ties in Crook’s background to the MC’s in a way you can’t really get with any of the other characters (barring your mother) and since neither me or my MC thinks all that highly of Crook, I’d just sort of lean against anything that tied their arcs together like that. The first theory holds some amount of water for Crook having done something terrible before–maybe it was the murder of the MC’s father, but maybe just something else. Also, I only got this scene once so I don’t really remember it, but doesn’t Crook find out your secret if you find out his? Does he have any strong reaction to it?
These are some well-put together theories though, I’m impressed.
Did you notice in the demo for Part 2, Quickie mentioning he got a D in Secrets? It isn’t stated whether he got the grade first quarter or second, so it could’ve been because he refused to get secrets for Nil, or it could be because he refused to take Cap Cali’s test–which is how he was checking for Prestige/Mega Cat spies …
He find out your secret yes. His reaction is something along the lines of "he stays silent while you tell your story.
For the D in secrets it adds to the first theory (which is way more possible). I think it’s the second time because he knows at least two secrets (Wombat and Stunner). That would mean he was motivated to reveal their secrets but not yours. Two possibilities: he’s selfish and doesn’t want Savior to know who he is/was or he feels like he owes you because he realized you’re the son of the man he killed. It could prove the second one too as he might not want someone to use that relationship against him.
Honestly the second one started as a joke. But as I wrote it, I realized it actually made sense (especially considering his secret and Origami’s age). Still the first one is also my favorite because it has no holes compared to the second who is more based on hypothesis.
And thank you @HomingPidgeon ! I spent a lot of time working on these
-Physical descriptions and official artwork. While physical descriptions of the students or teachers can be a little more detailed, characters like the mom are left more ambiguous or it’s up to the player to choose, so it doen’t seem to odd compared to the MC.
It is a fun theory anyway, I love reading things like this.
I’ll stick up to my theory of Crook having kids at a younger age than he wanted and coming to Speck to escape from his family situation.
Honestly, at this point I’m trying to create as many plot threads as possible through the end of Part 2 to give me maximum flexibility for things going in different directions in Part 3. And actually I’m very pleased with myself in that respect, because I feel there are many goals players may want to achieve, be it rescue/save a certain someone, lead your team to greatness, follow in Dad’s footsteps, gain fantastic powers, help redeem a classmate on a downward spiral, join one of the top schools, become a world-famous solo hero in Nebraska or elsewhere, put an end to the cycle of violence between the Dozen and the heroes, make sure your friends survive, get revenge against a certain someone, etc. etc. And I’m learning to NOT box myself in during Part 2, meaning there should be tons of unanswered questions going into Part 3, and plenty of theories for possible answers.
I have spent a lot of time reading CoG’s contest tips. I also read Adam Morse’s extremely useful “arm and fingers” example as to how to construct the game, especially the last few chapters with tons of endings. Link below. I highly suggest reading it!
Anyway, I view CCH Part 1, CCH Part 2, and even the first half of CCH Part 3 as “the arm.” Then it will go all over the place. I could actually see 2 totally different versions of Issue 11, and up to 4 different versions of Issue 12. So I need enough threads to allow readers to choose the path that’s satisfying to them. I don’t want anyone to feel like they “failed” when the series is over. I just want to force readers to prioritize what’s most important to their character.
Oh you misunderstood me–it was Quickie who got the D in secrets, possibly suggesting he has something to hide–and the context of the scene suggesting he might be a Prestige/Mega Cat spy.
I don’t remember it ever coming up what grades the other Speck 7 get in any of their classes, actually, so not sure how any of them do.
romance Booksmart, run away to start a library together …
@MockTurtle Yeah I know. As I said I started it as a joke and I didn’t really thought about the holes. However we get a bit of description for our dad: he’s 6 feet tall for 185 lbs (or 80 kg approximately)
@HomingPidgeonThat actually makes a lot of sense. We know that Prestige loves Zenith with basic enhancement powers (such as super strength or speed). If he’s from Prestige that would also explain why he’s so haughty with everyone.
Also another of my theories is that Stoic is either the daughter of Lady Ash (same height and that would explain her power level) or the sister of Mega Cat (she mentions coming from a strict family with her brother being the "strictest of them all which match what little we know of Mega Cat). It seems that the latter is better since they are both Brooder and it might be a form of emulation. Now this one is mostly intuition and wild guesses because we don’t know much about Stoic or the people I mentioned (including their appearance).
Edit: @The_Otaku_Dragon_Sla Because if we’re right we don’t want to ruin Eric’s surprises.
It’s spoiler-text, for anybody reading the thread but hasn’t gotten the information we’re blurring out. Like, somebody who’s played through Part 1 and is trying to find everything out by themselves wouldn’t want to find out about Crook’s family or Origami’s real age or someone who’s played Part 1 but hasn’t gotten into the demo yet. I think most people posting on the thread regularly are pretty much caught up with everything, so it’s mostly just courtesy or a just-in-case thing, but it’s just considered kind of polite to make sure spoilers are easy to avoid.
I guess my stuff about wanting to romance Booksmart doesn’t need to be in spoiler tags–but Eric earlier put it in spoilers that there’ll be a Savior field trip later on, so I guess it could potentially be a spoiler that they’ll potentially show up? Eh, I can probably leave it out of spoilers if it’s vague in the future.
Also, what @Harroc said, that if we guess something correctly then it won’t be spoiled for people.
Also, still @Harroc, if Stoic is related to MegaCat and doesn’t have a good relationship with him that could explain why she’s at such a small school, and some of Mega Cat’s interest in it. After all, her power grade should make her eligible for a bigger school. I don’t remember her ever talking about her family though, can I ask which part that’s from?
Issue n°2 when you choose to not take a side on the contrarian issue. You can ask her a question. If you say you really want to know she answers or you can simply say you were making conversation. Here’s what you learn:
-where she’s from: her parents are from Saudi Arabia but she’s American.
-why Speck: learn how to control her powers.
-how is her family: her dad’s strict, her mother even more and her brother is the strictest of them all.
-her powers: nothing can hurt her.
-just making conversation: she was forced into doing that sometimes (it actually gives you +2 in her relationship where the others are giving +1).
In all cases she ends the conversation quickly by saying she’s busy (she was on the lab computer doing something).
Wow i had no idea any of that ever existed. Plus i never pictured stoic as middle eastern looking but i think its super cool that she is Does it ever say any of the other students ethincities and iv just missed it? Iv just been going off my own made up mental pictures of them all
It’s understandable as every fanart depict her as white. Mob is skinny, he’s white on official art (issue n°2 cover) and black on some fanart. C-Wom is black everywhere (on the first issue cover and fanart). That’s pretty much it as beside Tress and Stoic no one has an official ethnicity: the descriptions often give one trait (Stunner’s muscles, Mob being skinny etc.) and the description of their gear.
So beside Tress and Stoic who are explicitly “pale” and “olive”, I don’t remember anyone having an ethnic description. That’s probably to leave most traits decided by the reader after describing the character’s build/equipment to have a base.
I am also kind of surprised by Stoic’s ethnicity. It’s kind of difficult to guess otherwise, since everyone is washed by those colors in the cover of issue 1.
I guess that Stunner is also black, and Origami looks asian.
Not so sure about Combat Wombat and Mob. Mob doesn’t look black, but he looks sort of ambiguously brown. Also CW is washed by the color brown in the cover art, I guess it’s because Steampunk, but I’m having trouble placing his facial features.
Anyway, I know that the artist had some freedom, so I don’t know how much is Eric’s idea and how much is the artist interpretation.
