Community College Hero: Knowledge is Power (old WIP thread, now closed)

Yes I too would have liked to see some other entries get a few more votes. Maybe part of the issue was the way I set up the judging.

I’ll be open to alternative ways of judging if I run another contest. I considered asking the voters to score each submission on a 1-10 scale. That approach would have provided more feedback to each artist, but I’m not a huge fan of reducing a piece of art to a single number. Plus that would have been a hell of a lot of work for me tabulating Facebook votes using that method (I got almost 50 FB votes). Anyway, I’m more of a “I know what I like when I see it” kinda guy, which is why I ultimately just let people vote for their “favorites.”

Every single typo has been fixed - thanks so much!

*Other than this one, because it’s a text message - I wanted to capture how some (most?) folks text…that’s why there’s no caps, etc.

wanted to see if you were ok. saw on the news about a new crazy person there. sorry for worrying. cant help it. there are no words capitalized in these sentences. also, can’t is missing its apostrophe.

So…there’s actually going to be a choice to get Quickie injured, instead of the man and the MC?

THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER.

There’s already one.
You need to attack the thieves, and ask Stoic/DG to stop him.

What?

But they always just ignore me and stand there.

you have to be the leader for them to follow orders.

But I AM the leader. Yet they just stand there, gawking at me.

my mistake, you don’t have to be the leader.
well, your hidden leader score has to be above 1. it starts at 0, you can bump it up by getting dr hover down without hedonist stepping in and bump it up again by giving a speech.

all in all it’s a rather difficult ‘stat’ check.
So, you basically just have to order Crook to go get him? Oh, okay. Thanks again.

If you are a Stoic fan there’s a “out of persona” moment when you ask her to stop Quickie

I still can’t get the scene. I got Dr Hover down with out the Hedonist and I gave the speech but they STILL don’t respond to me.

Perhaps it is because of your relations with them?

My relationship with Stoic was 82. So no,
I don’t think that’s the case.
you might have done some actions that lowered the score then. driving wild with the group in the car lowers it iirc.

or there’s an issue with the code.

There’s no issue with the code. You were right-driving reckless in the car decreases the score.

Thanks.
@WaNeZot and @AAO, yes the game will track leadership points (both for you and Tress)

For the MC,

, you gain a leadership point if you successfully contribute in the Dr. Hover situation, either: 1) by ordering Crook to help, 2) or by snagging Tress (you need a zip line, so that means you need to be a Level Two Acrobat or Sharpshooter, and you also need both your Pow and Zap to be >3 so I guess that’s a pretty hard check for most MCs, but it rewards people who spread out stats a bit), or 3) by catching Tress when she falls, which requires Pow > 4, easy for Acrobats and Detectives, but doable, but hard, for other archetypes) Anything else you do will end up failing, and you’ll lose a leadership point.

Then you have the “rest period” after the attack. You can gain a leadership point simply by giving a speech; there’s no check to succeed, just a personal check that gives flavor to your speech. So for players who want leadership points, it’s an automatic gain, but you give up resting (decreased Ouch), and you give up sneaking around (there are three areas to explore).

Then you have the Night of Chaos…or whatever. You can lose a point by driving wildly, as has been discussed, but you can also gain a leadership point by avoiding violence with the looters, because that’s what you were ordered to do. You can gain the point by: 1) getting DG to “talk them down” (need to know DG’s secret and you need a Hmmm > 6), or by charming them (need charm over 50%, or 3) by scaring them (need brooder over 50%), or 4) even by tossing them some change so they run off (that’s probably the most questionable, but it does avoid violence), OR 5) you can even get a point by throwing yourself in Quickie’s path to avoid him smashing the looters. So those are pretty easy checks and there are 5 different ways. However, if either the looters or Quickie ends up injured, you lose a point.

Then there’s the apology to California. IF you are the leader, you can 'take one for the team" and apologize, which gives you +1 to leadership and a stat boost with Tress (and I’m adding one for Mob too), BUT you get a delayed punishment next week because California views you as the “ringleader”. The punishment should be included in the next update. If you don’t apologize, you avoid punishment but lose a leader point. IF you are NOT the leader, you have to choose between saying something that pisses off Tress (+1 leader point) or that agrees with her (-1 leader point)

Finally if you’re leader, you can get a point during the “team meeting” by calling out her attempts to hijack the meeting. However, depending on what you say, she can actually gain a point and you can lose one.

So you can have a maximum “hidden” leadership score of +5 by the end of the update, and I will toss in more checks along the way.

I think she’s not really “hijacking” the meeting (she says nothing for the presentation and the Origami problem), but that she tries to be useful because she failed everything she did in book one and the beginning of book 2.
So far we have: trouble on capture the flag, a defeat against Origami, a failure at the press conference, pretty much screwed the last exam and acted impulsively when saving Dr. Hover. I think it would be nice/ to have a scene where she tries to take over but everyone sums up her mistakes and turn her down (yes I have a dark sense of humor).

Yes I agree; that’s why I’m keeping track of her leadership stats too. However, she WILL have chances to redeem herself. And she still really wants that leadership position.

EDITED TO ADD: However, when you string all her failures together like that, well…sheesh. Poor Penelope. Quite the tragic figure.

Yeah she’s not having it easy. I think it might be interesting to give her some background story to explain why she needs to feel in control (with the leader thing, the sticky notes and her stress problem).
