College Tennis: Origin Story (WIP) - Updated 8 Jun '25 [968k words]

Which kiss specifically are you referring to? There’s more than one.

Checking the script, it seems that the option to do it simply isn’t there. I’m not sure if it ever was an option (i can’t find it in earlier revisions) or if you’re confusing it with G’s path which does have option to kiss them.

But you can have public kiss with Sam after the singles match, if you choose to run to them.

Sorry, I forgot to mention it, I’m referring to the kiss that happens in the locker room, after the doubles match.

Thank you for letting me know!

I was convinced that this option existed, as you say I may be confused.
Thanks!!

You’re not confused, it used to be there. But it was removed and Sam’s kiss shifted to later in the weekend because tonally it wasn’t the right time.

Shrug. It was Allie’s decision. But I mean, it is a tonal shift because the tone of the kiss is literally different. It was rushed between matches in the locker room and didn’t seem to fit well for Sam and MC specifically. I liked how it was before, it was a cute kiss, but it’s definitely placed better now.

I mean, it can now happen literally hour or two later (after two matches instead of one) so it’s not that much of tonal shift…

Love the update!

Here i picked the option to just watch the century egg contest but sam is asking why mc didn’t picked them to be their partner.

I think i’d appreciate another option here. The first two don’t really answer sam’s question, in third mc says they do have something complicated going on with someone and the last one commits to sam while also not really answering what they asked.

I have a mc that is not involved with anyone else so they don’t mind answering sam’s question honestly but also they are not sure they want to commit to sam (yet). Mostly because they are very busy now with exams and tennis and the photography club lol.

Unrelated but i’m happy i finally got the invincible first week achievement!!

So glad that I was too lazy to replay and just accepted losing the singles cause this update broke all my saves and had to do it anyway yay :') Though did manage to win it this time. Also tried to tone down hitting on everyone else but apparently didn’t flirt with Rayyan enough so there was no mess after MC got together with Sam, very sad… but also, the rom-com train scene!!! Soo good <3 all of them are, very hard to decide on which one to go for lol

typos, switched genders and few inconsistency stuff

You refuse to sit back and allow Jacks to continue to grind and wait for either of you to make a msitake. As the old adage goes, if one is to die, one might as well die in a grave of one’s own making.

Typo, should be mistake (during end of the second set)

Sam isn’t particularly tall, and his slight build is the only reason he could even fit in your jacket, but even then, your jacket always looked comically small on him. The sleeves only reached three-quarters up his forearm. It usually made for quite a hilarious sight.

He’d laugh and flex his biceps, saying, “does this make my muscles look big?” and continue wearing it around, tossing his jacket at you in exchange.

“I don’t want your jacket,” you’d sigh, looking down at the jacket balled up in your hands. But you’d put it on anyway, sleeves draping down way past your wrists, resigned to the fact that your teammates would be calling you “O’CONNELLY” for the rest of the day.

The jacket mix-up really shouldn’t have happened as often as it did, considering both jackets had your last-names stitched into the sleeve, and the fact that the two of you really weren’t the same size.

When Sam wore your jacket, the sleeves would come past his fingers, too long for him, but it never seemed to bother him. He’d just roll it up slightly and continue wearing it anyway.

“That’s obviously mine and you know it,” You’d say, looking at the rolled-up sleeves, and Sam’d just toss his jacket at you.

“I don’t want your jacket,” You’d sigh, looking down at the jacket balled up in your hands. But you’d put it on anyway, sleeves coming up short on you, resigned to the fact that your teammates would be calling you “O’CONNELLY” for the rest of the day.

Inconsistency issue with the jackets text, the first should be correct as MC is short and the latter repeating is wrong

You remember the photo strip you’d brought to Cargill. “Look what I brought with me.”

You swap the camera angle round, and show Sam the photo strip of the two of you pinned to your wall.

Sam’s usually an open book, but when you show it to him, a quiet, unreadable expression comes over him.

Might be wrong but should be an inconsistency issue as during the first call to Sam during the first week, when Sam was packing and showed a photo with MC, MC then showed the photo they brought, so would be showing again not for the first time

You suppose she a counter-puncher for good reason. And perhaps her experience—knowing when to let balls go, and when to go all out, for instance—helps, too.

Forgotten is on she, should be she’s

“I was very fortunate to have come out of that with a win,” Deepal says, sympathetic. She pats your shoulder. “And to think you’re only a freshman, with four whole seasons ahead of you.” She shakes your head. “Terrifying!”

Should be shakes her head

Slowly, some sense floods back to you.

If you do anything now, you’ll have to live with the consequences of your bad decisions in the days, weeks, months to come.

And no offense, but Rayyan certainly doesn’t seem like the sort who’d be able to keep her personal feelings about you separate from what happens on the court.

At the end of the day, logic and sense win out, and you manage to pull yourself away from the yawning precipice.

You’re not sure what would’ve happened if you hadn’t stepped back, but you’re… mostly glad you had. The two of you had enough drama between you as it is, without adding whatever… this was.

You’re not sure what would’ve happened if you hadn’t stepped back, but you’re… mostly glad you had. The two of you had enough drama between you as it is, without adding whatever… this was.

Sighing, you follow Rayyan out of the locker room. The two of you are quiet, enveloped in your own thoughts, but she does accompany you part of the way back, peeling off only at the Main building. You walk the rest of the way back to Haynes, and soon climb into bed.

Inconsistency issue with the locker scene, double text after stepping back

“I could contribute finesse and fluidity, and in turn, Rayyan could shore up our defenses at the baseline,” you say. “This would be more balanced than if I partnered Rayyan, in which case our weaknesses might compound and run the risk of being exploited.”

You feel both Rayyan and Tobin’s gaze drilled into your skull. There’s a brief, tense silence.

Second Rayyan should be Tobin

“After some deliberation, we think that the alternative pairings of Deepal-Rayyan, and Tobin-Alicia, may actually bear most fruit, especially where chemistry, communication, trust and respect are concerned,” Coach Jones says. “Taking everything into holistic account, we believe that this pairing would give us the best chance at weathering tough draws.”

[…]

Coach Sý looks at each of you in turn. “If anyone has violent objections, speak now, because after this, we’ll assume that this will be the pairing we’ll stick to for the rest of the season: Tobin-Deepal, Rayyan-Alicia.”

Inconsistency issue with the pairings, on the first text the coaches decide on Tobin with MC but on the confirmation it switches to Rayyan

And the cherry on the cake? Sam will be here soon. The excitement of seeing him again, and having her most of the weekend adds to the building anticipation.

Should be him

Guillaume grins, and hands a wad of paper towels over to you, warm affection clear in her twinkling grey eyes even though he doesn’t say anything.

Should be him

Decided to check out this story. Wish i could have captured the look on my face when I read Fr*nch Canadian. Tabarnak. I recoiled

I find it infinitely funny when they got reffered to as “your French roommate”, he is Québécois no?:rofl::rofl:

Why must you make it so difficult to choose an RO? There are only a handful of games where I get this invested in those types of routes, and this is just … killing me.

Forgive me if I overlooked the answer to this, but when there’s an (x) by an RO choice, does that mean you’re permanently closing off that possible branch? I managed to get the scene where you can suggest poly to Sam, but at the end of the weekend, I still had to either go all in with Sam or choose the option with the (x).

At the end of the day though, I still lean toward my favorite foreign exchange student. Was kind of pleasantly surprised where G questioned my relationship with Sam. They seemed to hide being a little hurt there, which I did not expect since it all seems like a fun fling to them. Loved that. And also loved hurting the other nuggets in this story. I’m just leaving a trail of broken hearts here.

As for the tennis parts, I don’t know if I want to praise you or curse you because I’m getting more interested by the second and I never wanted to get into tennis like this.

lol I absolutely agree with the tennis part…was reading basic tennis strategies while building my tennis style and traits…keep up the good work…and I can even begin to figure out who to romance…might just become completely tennis obsessed and save romance for after college :stuck_out_tongue:

G is French. IIRC their (step?)mother is Canadian, and their dad has recently moved there to live with her.

In some earlier cases the icon may indicate this just avoids advancing relationship for now, but generally by the time Sam’s visit comes to an end these options mean actively turning the person down. Presumably they won’t be really trying to ask again.

Ah. Got it. Thank you!

One of the few rare instances I’m suuuuper invested in an IF. I don’t usually give a shit about the characters and instead prioritize the story, but you have me hooked, line, and sinker for them. I was screaming, giggling, and just so giddy throughout the entire thing. I enjoy the tennis (super surprising as an avid sports disliker), the campus aspect (love making sure my boy is smartcookie), the romance, the characters, and the matches :DD

I aimed for Sam and good golly, they have my heart. I couldn’t even decide on who, but I love the best-friends-to-lovers trope; I want them hitched and married to my little guy. Love Rayyan too!!! They’re my next choice for my next run. I adore how much they love the game, their passion, but also the hard-assery, flawed in a very real way other IF stories don’t portray well. They’re more than just the “cool” archetype, they have depth!!!

Anyway, this IF was super fun; the matches and characters were super engaging and I love love it. Will be watching to see how this IF goes, but honestly, if this died I would be satisfied with this. It was super duper well done and made me feel uasd;oflauowfjvnj, you get it :))

I can’t stop replaying the latest update but for the love of me can’t get the Train Station Confession achievement no matter how many times I try does anyone know how to do it?

Avoid both rejecting and taking the plunge with Sam until they pop the question at the train station, then commit. Specifically, with this option:

#Faced with this stark choice, I change my mind abruptly. I can't let Sam walk away. Grab ${sam_his} hand. "I want to be with you." (♡) [Commit to Sam]

for it to be enabled the MC needs romantic score with Sam higher than 40, or just higher than with every other RO.

While it obvious, I still want a confirmation. I guess there will be no poly route? I mean mc able to suggest having poly/open relationship to Sam but relationship with Sam seem to ended if u rejected him one last time before Sam left.

If you told Sam on Saturday you want to have open relationship and didn’t relent on it (by changing the status since then in some manner) then they should ask on Sunday if it’s still what you want. You get then three options – commit to exclusive relationship, reject Sam altogether, or insist on the open relationship using the option:
Slowly let my breath out. "Yes." It seems harsh, but I don't see us being together except in an open relationship

Mind you, the only person who doesn’t mind getting in a poly/open relationship is G. The other ROs want the relationship to be exclusive and won’t be a part of it.

Wait, I’ve just played again, can we RO Felix? Because we can go looking for him at the halloween party, which seems like it’d just be asking for trouble but…okay? Maybe? Ish?
