My personal favorite is my “everything but serving” baseliner. Just being the best at (just shy of) everything is too good a feeling to miss. And, yes, it result in my MC’s cockiness becoming rather high.
Well my preferred build usually are endurance, agility and strength. And it serves me well until the devil dozen (I rarely got this ).
Hey me too! I pick Junkballer cause that gives you slightly more points to play with, rather than the traditional counterpuncher. It’s such a joy to play through with those 4 stats cause it covers a lot.
A close favorite though is a S/V build (S/V, Strength, Finesse, Tactics or S/V, Agility, Strength, Finesse) which also works SO WELL. Serving will always come up so this build has the upper hand during these checks. AND I absolutely love the visuals in my mind of the MC jumping up and catching a ball mid-air. I do notice the low Endurance though which draws out games and lowers condition more.
Ugh, that sounds so good. I’ve tried making a 5-skill build work, but one skill always falls a bit short and then I feel like I’ve wasted points. Besides, I’m also always gunning for high charisma and intelligence.
How do you get it to work? Train every day, no socials?
That makes sense Passing the training challenges is not necessarily needed, more of a pride thing I suppose. I’m okay failing the strength test every time (and I keep telling myself that while I’m fidgeting on a strength build).
I’ve considered a five skill build, but fitting strength in with both agility and endurance doesn’t really work unless you’re pushing for it, and that means minimizing what you can do with tactics and finesse
Yep I never really pay attention to other stat rather than what I usually use so usually my stats always look like this,
Well this stats always help me win all the matches (ofc excluding Deepal and the devil dozen lol) so that’s why I usually choose those three ability.
Interesting to see those. My favourite build is Tactics, Finesse, Condition (I count it, anyway) and Endurance. Agility is usually my highest stat beyond those three/four.
This is my build after the strength and speed test considering that in my attempts 30 is usually enough to pass most tests I am satisfied
My favourite skills to focus on are strength, tactics, finesse and S&V, trying to keep endurance medium-ish and agility is my dump stat.
I categorized my mc as “all court”, dunno how accurate that is because I’m just a dumb player who knows very little about tennis.
During the Rayyan match I go for all the finesse options, which includes a tactics boost in one of ‘em. Then, I go for the do everything before leaving option, grab the tennis racket, and choose to be a short, toned, double-handed, aggressive baseliner. Forgot exactly which stats I chose as my best and second best for the end of character creation (pretty sure I chose endurance as number one), though I can tell you for sure my serving was dumped. By the start of training, tactics was probably ~20, agility was 22, and all the rest, aside from my 7ish S/V, were 25+. Should let you pass all the normal checks at the beginning. (In this configuration, start steady on the run, speed up, then go into the loose sprint.) After this, generally choose options that focus on tennis, and training and spread your focus around when doing drills, especially focusing on the ones you’re lowest in. You do miss out on the run with Rayyan/library trip with Tobin, as well as a couple minor relationship boosts, but you should still be able to get great relationships with everyone, especially your teammates, and devote all the time to studying you need to become a star student. I might post a more detailed guide on this build when I do my next playthrough.
Loving all those replies
Very true. 5 skills is A LOT and not actually necessary to steamroll most checks.
Very nice! Those 40s make my mouth water. I assume you picked baseliner?
You know, condition should totally count as a stat! Depending on condition you’ll fail checks, also it requires a lot of maintenance. All the naps you have to take XD (but you know that) During training we often get a choice between levelling one skill or doing both. Do you tend to pick one or do you pick both?
30 is definitely more than enough! Very nice.
Nice choice of skills. S/V + strength and S/V + finesse comes up a lot and the choices are always a treat to pick.
Sure sounds like all court to me but I’m also just a dumb player who knows very little about tennis. After playing through for the 10th time I finally managed to understand what sets, games and matches are and how points work. The information just goes in one ear and out the other (or should I say one eye and out the other?). Either way, burninglights is slowly winning me over on tennis. I’ve watched some highly entertaining shorts on youtube and I can see the appeal of the sport. It also helped a lot actually understanding the concept of the game and how it plays out.
Good job on that build. Your MC must be super dedicated. It’s not something I’ll play myself. 4 skills are more than enough to be badass and I really like some of the in-game moments you get with characters. Also, I try to maintain my charisma and intelligence at a high level.
And ALSO, I think burninglights mentioned something about the MC possibly working towards a burnout. And honestly? I’m here for it. My MC goes hard and a burnout makes total sense for their development.
Don’t forget tactics+finesse that’s also one of my absolute favourites, as it tends to be the play smarter, not harder option and, yes, the other big ones are the ones you mentioned s&v+strength and strength plus finesse, s&v and finesse even allow me to win devil’s dozen.
I tried that and then got distracted by some cute tennis guys, guess I am a hopeless gay man. I guess if I want to watch for the game I should watch women’s tennis but I’m not sure I am at that level of dedication just quite yet.
Sammy! (though Sam doesn’t know it yet in-game and unless he makes a move on mc this visit he won’t until mc gets the chance to visit him in California) He’s just too cute to resist, even if my mc is a dense brat who only realized he might have feelings for Sam other than friendship during Mike’s truth or dare game.
Mostly college guys, like mc is supposed to be. As you can imagine college tennis is packed with cute young guys, though I do dislike the hipster beard fashion of the moment, without it there’d be even more.
However here’s one who is more famous.
Of the pro’s there Dominic Thiem and my real-life Tobin inspiration Ben Shelton.
HAHA I would LOVE to know who picked your fancy so I can get my share of eye candy. I’m curious, who are you romancing in CTOS?
I don’t really remember what I choose but I think you right maybe I choose baseliner
I’m going to do another walkthrough tomorrow then!
P.S: I never take interest to tennis until I found this game. Although till this day I never interest to see any tennis match because as an Asian my go to sport is badminton
Lot’s of hot asian guys in tennis though and in-game my mc is one, half Japanese and half Chinese American. He’d identify as Japanese American if pressed though due to mom leaving.
How long will game go to will it go all the way to we playing wimbeldon championship or stop as we become an actual pro cause of title ?? Or there are future sequels planned ?? Really loved the game despite me knowing only glancing knowledge of tennis , the college part is also fun and hope author expands that part more too. Torn between sam and guinevere dont know who to choose lol , what will happen if i keep flirting with both , will i cause more drama and get distracted from tennis hehe?
I tend to pick one and alternate through them. Joint stats picks tends to be where I get my non dominants in, it’s one of the reasons I’ll typically have a higher agility than any of the other non-core four. I also play up my character’s physical build as a sort of pre-prep. Short, wiry, left-hand single handed backhand ups agility and finesse, which is what I look for. Doing the summer tennis tournament and nothing else increases condition and tactics. Not sure what a stone-face/poker face during games gives you but I think it may boost a hidden stat of some sort? I’m not a code diver, so I wouldn’t know.
Condition was the funniest stat to me, because when I got through opening week I was mid 80s on it and was like “I will maintain Condition here, have to stay healthy after all!” And then it dropped to somewhere in the 70s and then I thoughts to myself “Yeah surely this is fine, I was mistaken, I’ll just keep it here.” I m approaching the 60s and am currently wondering how far I’ll move the goalpost for the status of my poor MC’s health until I actually stick to it.
On one hand, that sounds like a disaster, but part of me is also thinking “wow, I bet that player is gonna be SO good next year”
Just makes your opponents reactions more scared of you lol.
I love this game with all my heart, but the fact that G doesn’t get jealous kind of grates on my nerves (in a good and bad way). We’ve seen all three other love interests display jealousy so far, but why not G?
Their relationship is more physical than the others, but G can still be romanced without sexual interactions. I also know that G is the type of have many flings and not really settle down, but it just seems like it’d be different with MC if they really do care for us.
Maybe G’s not the jealous type (he doesn’t seem like he is), but I’d still appreciate a little bit of jealousy from them now and then they’re still human, after all, haha. No one’s impervious to emotions. I eat it up every time…
