fixed now! thanks!!
I canāt remember if this was brought up in discussion before but is the assigned partner random or influenced by something? Is there something I can do end up with either Tobin or Rayyan?
Itās mainly based on ranking. If you are ranked 6th, youāll be paired withā¦Emerson or Jacks, but Tobin will offer to partner with you so Emerson and Jacks can be partners. If ranked 4th, Rayyan. Iāve never been assigned with Tobin, and I think the only way to end up his partner is to request it.
I believe that it is possible to get Tobin right off the bat. I think the requirements are that you need to rank 4th in singles, win your doubles with Tobin, and lose your doubles with Rayyan.
The POV scenes are available only to romanced LIs, or are they still WIPs?
Edit: Nvm, it is available to romanced LIs only. It was cute seeing Tobinās POV tho, I hope we get platonic versions of them too.
Guillaume has my whole heart
Wowww hahaha never thought Iād hear you say this definitely flattered.
Ah interesting! I never thought about that before. Iāve edited out the major choices so that it becomes text (tobin POV too) but the rest are just dialogue options instead of real actions that might feel weird as a reader to pick on behalf of an RO.
This is extremely self aware HAHAHA and very hilarious. Hope coachās response was fun to read.
@Cloudy Thank you!!! Iāll look through and give more detailed responses if I have 'em when I do the editing.
@icyLucy OMG, no way indeed!! That is some high level coincidence hahaha !! And god yes @kckolbe that would truly be amazing though I would never give MC a career ending injury I promise.
Yup! This is true. You can also get Tobin off the bat if youāre ranked 5th and didnt win both your doubles matches. (You get Rayyan if you won both.)
Yep!! But the requirements are really low, basically just to confirm that youāve actually picked some romance options instead of just accidentally clicked a flirty response once.
Edit: also yes Iāll make sure thereās some POV scenes for platonic folk too for TobināRayyanās POV scene (with apology) is platonic!
@parisgracex awww yay, love the non-tennis RO rep!
Kyahhhhhh, I love the update, thanks for the hard work boss!
Ahhh~ Sam is so cute~
Every new chapter somehow makes me love CTOS more and more itās just too good and leaves me thinking about nothing but tennis for 3 months after each update lol.
Bouncing on the balls of my feet and patiently waiting forā¦ Sam.
Iām playing through this for the fourth time now and Iām having so much fun! I vaguely remembering trying this story when it was first posted, liking the writing, but struggling with the tennis games, so I didnāt bookmark it (though I have saved it now!). Did you modify the game sections a little? (Or maybe I just understood it a bit more this time around.)
Some of my thoughts/experiences:
-
First time through I focused on a finesse/tactics build - which is insufficient to succeed repeatedly. I tried working on my agility in every training session, but it was always just a bit beneath the ability check. Iām not sure how I feel about that yet. On the one hand, Iām used to games giving you a chance to correct your early build mistakes when you didnāt really know yet what you were doing. On the other, thereās a logical appeal of āthis is what you trained for years (in adolescence), this is what your body can do now, this is what you getā. It does also make me wonder if in these training sessions I should focus on the skills Iām already good at? Since obviously the game is gonna keep upping the ante and my build will have to keep up. Thereās overall very little explaining or guidance on what makes a good build and I feel like only the second time through you can do something that actually works well (unless you luck out the first time).
-
Consequently, on my second playthrough I also focused on agility early on (in addition to finesse and tactics) and from there on it was smooth sailing. Iām actually having so much fun with the tennis matches that I play through them every time and theyāre maybe my favorite section of the game (winning is fun - who knew?). But I am actually amazed that you managed to make the matches so engaging when tennis is not something I really care for or know anything about at all.
-
Speaking of knowing nothing at all: Iām still not sure what a āseedā. I also wanted to say that the first time the abbreviation S/V comes up, it isnāt explained, but it does say the full name in the description of the choice and Iām just an idiot.
-
I absolutely love all the ROs and Iām very torn between Rayyan and G. Rayyan makes a bit more sense for my character since she lives and breathes tennis. Itās really fun to go hard on it. Text dad? No, I have to train. Keep in touch with your childhood friend? No, I have to train.

Overall, I feel the balance between tennis and other stuff is really well handled. You can hang out with hallmates, do reasonably well in class, while also excelling at tennis with minimal sacrifices. But thereās a disjointed feeling that you should focus on one or the other and I actually really like that. I like that when I donāt choose tennis - even if it doesnāt affect my score - it does feel like Iāll lag behind.
-
Regarding other stuff: on my first playthrough I focused more on non-tennis stuff. I think my favorite scene was the laser tag game - so much fun. Again, a very nice balance of āthis is a tennis gameā and also āyouāre a college studentā. I was a bit surprised regarding extracurriculars. For my major I chose film - since, hey, my mc is athletic, if tennis doesnāt work she can go into mocap acting. So I was a bit startled when D can go into theatre and we canāt; I imagine itās because tennis gets in the way, but I wish there was a brief comment acknowledging that. Also wasnāt sure how photography class fit into our pretty full schedule - is that something that mainly exists to give more time with G?
-
Oh, one more thing regarding builds: with my first playthrough tactics/finesse build, I did manage to get 4th place in the team and become partners with Tobin (by winning the double match with them and losing with Rayyan). But only because I got choices that allowed tactics/finesse in the match with Tobin. And Rayyanās game didnāt have these choices. It makes me wonder if the choices offered in these double matches will be similar to later matches with the same partner or if it always switches up. As in, I rocked that one double match with Tobin as a partner, but since the build isnāt great I will still suck later on? Or because that particular build matches well with Tobin I actually have a chance to play like that reasonably well? Also, is there an objectively better partner to get? As in, Rayyan is the more skilled player, so if you want to achieve more, itās better to be paired with them? And the coaches see more potential in you when pairing you with Rayyan?
Anyway, really really enjoyable. Very much looking forward to see more from you
When Iām going to be able to bang GeneviĆØve lol? Good update tho
A seed is a player in a tournament who gets a more favourable placement in the draw as a reward for their high ranking. The number of seeds depends on how big the draw is (a Grand Slam tournament like Wimbledon will have 32 seeds because thereās 128 players in the draw, but a smaller tournament like Basel - which only has 32 players - will only have 8 seeds).
To give you an example of how it works, take the last US Open on the menās side: Carlos Alcaraz was the top ranked player in the world at the time the draw was made, so he was the number 1 seed and automatically placed at the top of the draw; Novak Djokovic, who was the number 2 ranked player at the time, was the number 2 seed and automatically placed at the very bottom of the draw.
The number 3 and 4 seeds (Daniil Medvedev and Holger Rune respectively) were then drawn at random so that one of them was in the top half (but in a different quarter to Alcaraz) while the other was drawn in the bottom half (but in a different quarter to Djokovic). A similar sort of balancing process was then done for the rest of the seeds (5th to 8th, 9th to 16th, 17th to 24th, and finally 25th to 32nd)
This is all done to ensure that the highest ranked players canāt meet each other before a certain round (for example, in a Grand Slam tournament two seeded players canāt meet each other until at least the third round), both for sporting reasons (it wouldnāt seem all that fair to pair up two top 5 players in the world in the first round, while two players ranked outside the top 100 get to play each other in a different part of the draw, for example) and for financial reasons (tournament organisers ideally want the best players to stay in the draw as long as possible so that interest in the tournament is higher).
I hope that makes sense
Thereās one more from today. If Iām being too nitpicky please let me know.
Truth or dare
The most recent 3 texts are Sam, Mike and whoever MC texted for the group chat. Then, the new message from Sam pops in. Then G messages, and we have this choice:
I donāt think itās possible for MCās dad to be in the top 3 at this point. And G is male here, but gets referred to with female pronouns.
These ones are things I enjoyed, not errors/suggestions, so Iām putting them here. I know theyāve been around for a while, but I just noticed.

Do you know about the IB diploma? Basically itās a course for your final 2 years of high school, and one of the mandatory courses is Theory of Knowledge, and the catchphrase is literally āhow do we know what we knowā, so this scene brings back memories of that class haha.
Oh, youāre wonderful! Thank you. I hope you donāt mind that I have a few follow-up questions.
As Iām reading through this (and cross-referencing with Wikipedia) I realize there are a lot of words I am not familiar with.
- So, is the seed derived from the rank? Depending on which ranks take part in the seeding?
- Is āseedingā correct? I donāt see you using that word
- Who decides the rank? Is that done through tournaments?
- So, the seeds are partly intentional, partly random, yes?
- in this case draw = pool/number of players?
- The word seed itself is still not entirely clear to me. While Iām thinking about it, it seems like itās the order in which competitors are (more or less randomly) matched up. But both you and Wikipedia refer to it as a person/team
- in the game Rayyan is the number 1 seed. Does that refer to the Cargill team only or does that apply to tournaments as well?
This is hard
Does anybody know the what the required stats are for the achievement āāTake a set off the No. 3 seedāā for Deepal. I know what I need to do I just donāt know the stats for it. Iāve managed to get my serving/volleying skill to 30 but that still wasnāt enough for the achievement. I know there is an element of RNG to the tennis match choices.
Anyway, thanks in advance!
From what I can tell, the game starts and you get 4 choices and you need one of these stats (in order for each choice):
strength > 33
(tactics + finesse) > 60
serve > 33
(endurance + agility) > 64
I dunno what the exact stats are, but I managed with 30% Agi, 35% Endurance, and Finesse and Tactics >25%.
I apologize if this has been asked before, but are there any poly routes?
Iāve been enjoying the story so far, great and realistic writing, Iām on chapter 2 ad just met Diego and saw that GeneviĆØve repeated something she said. She says āAnyway, if weāre going to be doing a meet-and-greet in my room,ā She says, padding over softly to her desk. āIām going to need some coffee.ā Twice, and I donāt know if that was intentional or not. Other than that I donāt know much about tennis but Iām invested in the characters and the story so far
Try raising your charisma and see if she can handle you without the second cup. If not, itās probably a bug.
