College Tennis: Origin Story (WIP) - Updated 25 Sep 2025 [1.01m words]

Which skill should i put into in order to win the match? Appreciate if you can give me some tips.

I like to do a core trio of Agility, Endurance, and Strength myself. If you can get those three into the thirties you should be able to win most stuff so far as long as you play physically.

Though I’m sure any similar combination would work.

Hi everyone!! <3

It’s been a long time since I’ve been on the forums, sorry about that! I’ll try to get to some replies within the next couple of days or so, but here’s an update on a soon-to-come update, bringing us to the End of the Quarter-Finals for pairs who didn’t play against Sam

Ch 7 pt. 3

Features (~50k words):

  • Play the full Malik & Sanderson Quarter-Final match (will you get through to Semis?)

  • Post-match interview could get… juicy… (including the possibility of kissing your doubles partner or admitting your relationship to the student reporter)

  • Sam shows up after your interview (shit’s about to go down, if you’re embroiled in the Felix drama)…

  • G POV scenes (witness their… realizations that they just might have deeper feelings for MC than they thought from their perspective)

Release dates:

  • Ko-fi and Patreon supporters: 5 Sep, polished version by 12 Sep

  • Public version: By ~24 Sep

Can’t wait to hear what you guys think!

As someone who doesn’t have patreon or ko-fi, I’ll be sitting here waiting patiently until the public version release

@shrish_chauhan I’ve attempted to fix the code, it’ll be out in the next update – let me know if you still have the same error

Ah interesting question! I’d say yes, in an open relationship, MC might have to deal with their partners (G especially) hooking up with someone else at some point. Sam, probably not… no spoilers for the next 1-2 chapters, but. Yeah, I’ll leave it at that.

Absolutely, for Sam at least (this is in the doubles match, if you play against Sam). For the others (Rayyan, Tobin, G), or Sam if you don’t play against them, yes but not in the upcoming chapter.

Hm, I’m thinking of a short conversation during the doubles tournament, but only if certain conditions are met. Otherwise, the teammates just might not notice.

Good point! This is something that I should get round to at some point!

I absolutely want to explore other surfaces in the future, but for now, the canon ā€˜lore’ for CT:OS is that most matches take place on hard-court, because it’s the ā€˜dominant surface’ for Div I College Tennis (easy to maintain for colleges etc.)

(*Sorry, I got interrupted, will get to the rest of your questions soon!)

@alex4 Hello, welcome and glad you enjoy the game! Thanks @Adam_cay for helping out with the password!

Hey, since this is alternate history will there be a wood court event? I don’t really understand why they were phased out of modern tennis anyway, since, from what I have read online, they are the fastest courts, useful in our social media era of short attention spans & need for spectacle and they are less punishing to the feet of the player’s than most other surfaces to boot. Seems like alternate history colleges would be prime places to have some wood courts too. Even if it is only the alternate college tennis that still use them in a major way in the alternate modern day of the game-world it could at least be a nice, distinguishing, feature of college tennis there.

The other surface I would like to see in the game is grass, real, actual grass. Not the synthetic crap.

This on the other hand is very disappointing:

https://www.outsports.com/2025/1/17/24106245/mens-pro-tennis-atp-lack-gay-players

But it does settle it for my mc to come out publicly about his relationship with Sam, even though he is still just a college player and not pro (yet). Better get it out in the open and over with and then any possible future sponsors know who and what they’re dealing with. While, as a gay man, I am not a fan of the agonizing coming out story genre it seems it is still needed in a lot of areas even in 2025 and men’s tennis is one of those areas where it seems to be a long way from reaching critical mass yet even with a lot of the top pro’s being at least vocally supportive (which is absolutely a huge contrast to soccer). So maybe my mc and Sam can do their tiny bit in this fictional alternate universe. Fortunately Sam is the only of the tennis playing boyfriends who I would assume would have no issues with mc doing the outing for both of them, with Tobin as a black man and Rayyan coming from a very conservative background I’d sadly assume mc would have to hold back a bit.

The Ch 7 pt. 3 update is public!

With this update (~46k words), the word count for CT:OS has crossed the mark into 1mil! (That said, 43k words are for the branch where MC plays Malik & Sanderson, which is mutually exclusive from the Ch 7 pt. 2 update where MC plays Sam & Pan.

Can’t wait to hear what you guys think, and thank you once again to everyone who continues to play CT:OS, send in messages, and support me  Love you guys <3

@idonotlikeusernames Ooh, that’s a really cool idea, I’d love to implement that for an upcoming match, perhaps at a really old-school preppy college  Now that CT:OS is set in alternate history, I’ll definitely be able to play a little hard-and-fast with the rules.

Yeah, with the ability in this update to essentially be very public about being in a committed relationship with Rayyan/Tobin/Sam, I’m building up for a more intimate conversation later on at night, in response to MC’s interview answer  I think it’ll delve into the issues you mention.

Have you started thinking about splitting it up with how massive the word count is going, or is that just not something under consideration right now?

Ah, do you mean splitting up fall semester and spring semester? That could work.

I’m honestly suspecting that the massive word count might require me to do a big edit when I finally get to the end of the game, and cut down some of the slightly draggier parts, and maybe ask COG/HG what they might feel about releasing the shorter game + a DLC of a longer ā€œDirector’s Cutā€. I haven’t given it much thought beyond that!

to my knowledge, although they have limitations on how small a game can be, they don’t seem to have one on how large they can, and games with 2 million, 3 million word counts are starting to come into play now, zombie Exodus safe Haven, for example. If you just want to keep writing and then release the final humongous thing, pretty sure you can, with the only problem being you’re going to need a shit ton of beta testers

I found this WIP not too long ago and have been thoroughly enjoying it! Even with the little tennis experience I have lol!

I had a question about the potential of getting a match against Sam and Pan - I played through and was naturally unable to get this interaction due to being paired up with Rayyan and Sam being on the women’s tennis team. I played through the match at the end of the demo and thought it was great!

Have you thought about making the Sam and Pan match more of a sure thing, maybe by having the MC go into the tournament in a mixed doubles scenario? I bring this up because I feel like playing the match against Sam is a very powerful story beat, especially if you have Sam as your RO! Would be a shame to go through the story and never experience it, but understandable if it’s too complex to code out.

Got this bit even though my mc plays in the men’s doubles with Rayyan, not in the mixed ones with Felix. ā€œWhile running your eye through the tournament brackets, you realize with a jolt that the possibility of meeting Sam as an opponent that had been niggling at you ever since you’d picked Felix as your doubles partner might indeed come to pass.ā€œ

Does this update add anything if you played a match against Sam?

It does not

Agree, I did think about this, but I didn’t want to force MC to play mixed doubles because I also think MC playing with Rayyan/Tobin in doubles, especially for romanced Rayyan/Tobin, is an important story beat haha.

Hence I just decided to write two independent branches, and maybe it’ll be fun for replayability!

As for whether there’s new content for folks who played Sam, yes—but you’ll need to romance G: a romanced G shares their POV while MC is away at the tournament

Got this error while playing my women’s double’s quarters. I saved right before starting it so if there’s any other info you need to help finding it let me know.
