CHOMP 2021 Contest - Results Posted!

That’s kinda funny, given that we had some debate about whether the theme was actually too open and needed to be more specific. It sounds like it’s a good thing it wasn’t.

My mind keep thinking about Loki :expressionless:

Sincerely, where is the too open in mischief? It limits the game scope a ton. An sadly for me I am null in those.

The theme makes me think of cat burglars, to be honest.

Oh, and it reminds me of when you found a bunch of side characters in one of my WiP’s funny/mischievous for leaving a dead rooster at the MC’s doorstep.

Anything from the cosmic (gods pranking on their followers/creations for the lulz) to the mundane (delve deep into the life of a troll, let people go around harassing and haranguing on the Internet then pull back to look at what might be the issues in a person’s life that push them to that place or how easy it is to dehumanize and be dehumanized in turn). Maybe it’s some Project Mayhem stuff, vandalism as protest or statement. You can keep it light and comedic throughout or take the premise and turn it on its ear by having a Pagliacci sort of moment. The sky’s the limit.

I hate comedy… so garbage bin is my limit

Just goes to show how differently people can interpret an openended theme like this. My second impuls was to go fairies! Especially the older Shakespearean and older kind, with the Seelies and Unseelies, where both are mischievous, but especially the Unseelies leaning toward the malevolent side of mischief.

Or brownies from Scottish lore :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I like this prompt haha. Good luck to all!

I certainly will need as I am tempted to call villain group mischief and call it a day.

It doesn’t have to be American humor, I’d love to see whats funny in other countries/cultures!

It is literally one word. Do not let it hamstring you.

There are 15 different interpretations of the word, and not all of them are related to humor/fun.

Happy to say I got my MISCHIEF story outline written up last night.

Can’t wait to see how it turns out

I got my idea down too. I just wonder what length usually these contest games are? More than 30k words?

I’m guessing most are less than 30K. 30K is a lot to write in one month for most people.

Yeah, I put that number to compare, cuz for me it would be grinding a lot to get that far.

How violent can we make our entries?

I’d say as long as it’s within forum rules. Do ask yourself if the violence serves an actual purpose in the story/plot. Violence for the sake of violence tends to read like a twelve year old trying to do trickshots in Call of Duty. Only amusing because of how bad it is.

Always thinking out of the box, with that brilliant mind of yours.

And Kudos to @Twiger_Fluff for bringing this wonderful concept back to light and I hope to see more in the future, to spark the light for the next generation of writers.
