Choice of the Vampire - community input [SEE POST 1305]

As a Louisiana-an I’m glad to see a game taking place there :stuck_out_tongue: Perhaps if the game ended up in California or dealing with railroads or something the orient would play a bigger role. After all time isn’t a big deal when you’re a vampire. But to be honest Asian Vampires make me think of “Jackie Chan Adventures”

Hahahahaha lol @RockBou!!! :smiley: I love the story being in New Orleans! Reminds me of IWTV! :slight_smile:

@jammy,
Don’t. Make. Me. Mad.

Very good movie too, the new Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer Movie was at least partially filmed in Louisiana too, we’ve been having a few films come by here lately. I guess because of all the media attention.

@jasonstevanhill an option as a guy and to give ye self a name.

@Jammy,
They still mentioned Calcutta, India, so there are at least Asian Vampires in the world.

@RockBou No, the La state government granted tax breaks to movies filmed mostly in Louisiana. That’s why there’s been so many movies in the past few years.

@henry_de_awsome huh? You can both choose to be a male, and you can make up a name for yourself. So I’m not sure what you’re asking.

@jasonstevanhill oh hm I will look agin.

As much as I loved certain things about the game, like the historical detail and the thought given to the vampire power structure, there were a number of things that prevented it from being my favorite Choice game. And for the most part those had to do with social interactions. As per the author’s request, here they are:

(1) I think what bothered me most about this game was being told how my character felt about other characters. The emotional drama could get to be a bit too much at times, especially with regard to Clotho. Don’t tell me about my character’s strong feelings for Clotho, let me decide that he has strong feelings for her first. And do let me take a more casual or laid back approach to the relationship if I prefer. As an example, why do I have to choose between telling her I’m a Vamp and dumping her? Why shouldn’t I have the option of preferring to continue the relationship as it is without doing either?

And please, please don’t tell me I’m feeling jealous of some new character in Jesse’s life just because I let him think we were friends. I never liked Jesse to begin with. I didn’t like the way he treated Samantha. I was only friendly towards him because I wanted to avoid making him an enemy since he didn’t seem to like the way our sire favored my character. So getting told that I’m suddenly feeling jealous that he might be more interested in someone else annoyed me. As far as I’m concerned, the less interested he is in my character, the better.

(2) Every decision you make affects your character’s personality, sometimes in unexpected ways. That can be annoying when you’re railroaded into taking actions you don’t want to take because all the options but the one you don’t want are considered against your personality by the game. Furthermore, once a personality trait gets above 60 it has a tendency to keep getting higher, and if it goes below 40, to keep going lower. This is because you lose the ability to choose most of the options that would move it in the opposite direction.

(3) Forget Clotho, the character I most wanted to romance was Estefania. Given that you knew her for several years you should have at least have been able to make the attempt. You do have the ability to choose an optional scene with her that depending on how it goes, may hint at the possibility of more, but you have to forgo a scene with your sire or Jesse to get that. And even still, after all those years with all 3 characters, why do you have to give up the opportunity to get to know your sire better to get that single scene with Estefania? There should have been plenty of other opportunities to approach your sire for a chat over the years. And there should have been plenty of other opportunities to court Estefania’s favor.

(3b) The odds of getting the most interesting scene of all with Estefania are fairly small because your religious denomination, rationalism & discretion scores all have to be an acceptable combination or you become embarrassed or disgusted and leave. Had I not looked at the code I wouldn’t have known it was even possible to get that awesome scene where she flirts with you seductively while she plays with the food you brought her. That’s a great scene. It’s a pity it’s so difficult to get. The scene where the two of you feed together is probably runner up, and easier to get, but it appears to be missing text. See (5) below for more info.

(4) If anyone was ripe for a romance in the game it was lonely Samantha. If you save the depot she literally swoons over you. Ok, so maybe she was a little airheaded, and overly enamored on the southern way of life, including its bigotry, but she was still cute, personable and very available while you were more than likely bored if Silas wasn’t your type. It certainly would have been more interesting than playing cards every week for years. And after getting spanked for playing with his food once, my vampire was more inclined to try a go with another vampire, preferably one like Samantha one who was transparent and didn’t have a hidden agenda. That doesn’t mean my vampire felt she was his one true love, but if he was going to be stuck in Vicksburg and she was the only other Vampire within a hundred miles, there was no reason why they couldn’t take some comfort from each other. As an alternative, while in Vicksburg I’d have appreciated the opportunity for an affection-laced correspondence with Estefania instead of Jesse whom I despised.

(5) I’m still scratching my head over why my vampire decided to move to the boonies, er Vicksburg, of all places after leaving New Orleans…

(6) I’ve encountered several transitions in the game that seemed to be missing bridging text. The abruptness of the shifts were disconcerting at times. One example is when you choose to affirm your eternal friendship with Estefania, entreat her by by proposing that you feed together, and you join her once she’s started feeding on the musician she’s selected. You transition very abruptly from your heart beating in time with hers to a series of questions. The bridging text that is present if you allow her to feed alone is missing if you decide to join her.

(6b) The following is the most egregious missing transition I’ve encountered, so much so that I definitely consider it a bug. When I agreed to let Jesse embrace Clotho, he drained her dry, but didn’t embrace her. So why didn’t I rush over to turn her into a vamp when he didn’t finish the job? What’s this about being “released” when I was never held in the first place? Something is clearly missing there. I know from other play-throughs that my sire is supposed to order her death, and my character was supposed to be restrained so he couldn’t rescue her, but that didn’t happen when I agreed to let Jesse do the embrace.

So how is COV2 development going?

I just noticed that in my last post I wrote in section (3b) regarding the missing transition text in the joint feeding with Estefania scene:

See (5) below for more info.

That should have been a (6), not a (5).

So is it possible to actually manage to ambush Jesse when he comes to visit your home with the parish?
I’ve tried it a couple of times, but I’ve never seen it pulled of right.

@noogai I’m not sure. I’ve never done it either, but then again I never used a physically strong vamp to try it. To overpower him the way you can overpower that Lynch guy your maker sends you after in New Orleans (if you stayed with your maker) and possibly your own maker (but only for a second before being pushed back to the ground) you need high strength and probably fighting. The Hispanic maker who is a pirate gives a bonus to either fighting or strength, and then you have to choose to have had strength in life. Try this and maybe it will work, but again I have never tried and Jesse may have a strength of like 6 which is impossible to get through part 1 as far as I know.

There Were Asians in The US in the Various Years COV takes place in, so ha! Asian Vamps are still Possible!

@Zed I don’t think Jason was denying the fact that Asians were in America(s), but that they were not in New Orleans (a predominately French cultured city). And there should be a CotV RP! :smiley:

Man…I want to romance Estefania so bad…maybe in Part 2?

@revanrulesrussia Hopefully we’ll have a full cast of characters to “get to know” if you know what I mean lol! I’m hoping the long wait for part 2 equals a BIG bit of new story to play around with!

Me too…

Maybe it can be different when you have sex with another vampire…maybe then your parts will work…

What’s up with you guys and sex? lol
