It will take either a whole lot more blood or many years of soil repair to fix the problem–and the solution needs to be done at a large scale to avoid starvation. You’ll also need a lot of landowners to convert from commercial cash cropping back to food.

Yes, unfortunately it will be a no-go for my mc as I don’t think the priests and nobles combined are a sizeable enough share to make up the difference. So it’ll be a difficult and mutli-pronged transition even when hoping there are other nations on the other continents as famine would still be preferable to reliance on Hallassur willing to trade surplus food.

Well, it’s not quite Excalibur. They wouldn’t have given Excalibur to a captain going to root out a peasant revolt. There are plenty of Theurge-forged blades in the army, and plenty of Theurges to counter them.

Not really, I think you underestimate the caste system. To become “noble” my mc would need to break the caste system, since he’s unable and unwilling to play the game according to the rules of the existing nobility but once he has succeeded in breaking the caste system there is literally no point in declaring himself “noble” any longer.
Well…there is actually another meaning for “Noble” - having or showing fine personal qualities or high moral principles, honourable, righteous and virtuous
My mc wouldn’t be inclined to use the word “noble” as shorthand for any of this as in his lived experience very few people (formerly) calling themselves “nobles” possessed even one of those qualities, let alone all of them.
Well… i play as Aristocrat , and it is always in my mind to uphold the name and honour of the name of my father / family, hence i will be more “zealous” in declaring my noble heritage and noble deeds

Tbh, I kind of can’t imagine a helot MC not being absolutely pissed about their lot in life; my helot MCs tend to have high anarchy playthroughs. Aristo MCs in XoR are much more moderate when I play them.
But yeah, the game definitely can be dark. Hopefully there will be good choices that actually lead to potentially-okay outcomes.
