This is definitely the weirdest if game. A backward kingdom without magic becomes strong enough in a few months to take over a magical empire? What? And what’s wrong with Vera romance. Her father said that now all her debts are mine, but then at the wedding her parents insisted on paying for everything? And the next slide after the wedding is about how she died from experiments with negative energy. My mind blown.
And even after I played the recless villain who was ready to use Negation on any scale, I still got a good ending, clearing the sky with the help of a dark sun that broke out of control. And I’m somehow not Villian… in fact, they thing I’m hero…
The perfect ending, apart from the fact that with the death of Vera, I am alone… Well, considering my image, it even somehow suits me.
Okay, jokes aside, although the game clearly has a huge replayability, it was at the cost of hollow characters and a lack of worldbuilding
Agree with last poster that it’s surprisingly hard to play an evil wizard; while you can blow up the castle, kill the queen and generally work much evil with your spells, it’s usually unintentional, which is the theme of the story. There just aren’t such chances to become a demonic, world conquering liche or zero humanity ruler of Alaska with a robot harem. The Giant Beast and Spectre endings can be quite close, but not so accessible.
With the church subplot quite reminiscent of the Grand Inquisitor, I had to RP as Lise Khokhlakov from the Karamazov Brothers, as I generally do if a charming, bloodthirsty maniac attracted to monks is required (She would have happily been glamor-seduced by Vance, if that scene wasn’t restricted to Vera - Vance glamor seduction would indeed normally be unwelcome, unless the MC is being played as a repressed and half-mad enfant terrible). She’ll hopefully do well as a spectre goddess of chaos.
