A shotgun actually has about even range with a handgun, or course depending on the gun; a handgun definitely is not a sniping weapon, and a shotgun isn’t used for close quarters so much as crowd control and combat within 150 meters. A handgun is generally best within 100 meters, if you’re really, really good with it. I think the sniping weapon should be a bolt action rifle, since the bolt action will make the weapon almost useless in close range situations, so you have a really good reason to stick to the sniping strategy.
