Born a king:beta testing

so its not done by any means but i will update it every day with tons of new options and text but as you right now the starting chapter is don’t and if you choose magician as your job in chapter 1 there is text for that all other jobs have no text.

tell me if you run into errors but i have a proof reader she just hasn’t got to it yet so no need to tell me of grammar or spelling errors.

Things that might bug you.

Very few names to choose from. (i cant figure out how to get user imputed text to be set as the name variable if some one wants to tell me i will gladly change this.)

No gender choice. (this game is made to be told from the prospective of a male protagonist. the lack of gender choice is going to be made up in the shear amount of choices and ending of this game)

http://comicstorm.net/choiceScript/web/mygame/index.html so there is the link to the game please enjoy, i will update it tomorrow with the end of the mage job path and the start of the next job path.

Allright small update the merchant can now hit the third choice iv done some bug fixing and a little spell checking.

To allow a player to input a variable, use the ‘*input_text (stat)’ command in the same way you’d use a ‘*set (stat) (alteration)’ command. Example:
Your name is... *choice #Preset Name, blah blah blah *set name 'preset' *goto your_name_is #I don't like any of these names. So, what is your name? *input_text name *goto your_name_is *label your_name_is Your name is ${Name}!

Thank you so much reaperoa

I think you still have a name problem. An error pops up when I click on the stat screen, one which I also have experienced before.

Reaper told me to be wary of capitalisations so I suppose you should check that?

Well, best to wait for Reaper to reply again.

That is strange i don’t get any errors when i click the stat screen. it displays just fine not matter waht name i choose or even if i type in one. so i have no idea what to fix.

This is the error message when I clicked on the stats button at the very first page. Browser is Firefox:

{message:“line 3: Variable \‘name\’ exists but has no value”,fileName:“http://comicstorm.net/choiceScript/web/scene.js",lineNumber:554,stack:"Error(“line 3: Variable \‘name\’ exists but has no value”)@:0

",name:“Error”}

This is the error message when before the first page would even load. Browser is IE9:

Unable to get value of the property ‘setStartingStatsClone’: object is null or undefined.

I’ll try using Chrome later, but the constant is that it’s a stats thing.

I fixed it, it was because i never set a default value for name because i didn’t think people would click the stat button until they had picked name. thanks for the help

Also in the update i just did the mage path is done.

im trying the mages path. But when that demon teaches me to summon and i choose to talk to her, the game crashes. Same when i practice some more. Then i get the Test thingy. but no matter what i choose it crashes.

alright i fixed talking to Saveen and i fixed the test.

 when im home im gonna test it

ye now it works. crashes after the test now:p chrome doesnt give me a eeror. Just says an error occured. then the browser closes. im gonna see if i can recreate it in firefox or IE

Edit: Ok got the error.
line 447: bad label endchapter.

When you chose a profession its shows a error message!

Great game so far man. But yeah, after picking knight apprentice the game crashes. Btw, are some stats hidden on purpose (i.e. Magic) as it isn’t on the stats page.

I’m enjoying the game so far, although I’ve noticed a lot of spelling errors - I’ll write up a list for you when I have time.

As i have said before the only professtion that works is the mage i havn’t writen the others so of course it will crash when you select them.

I love the game. The setting , people , and the era. It sometimes crashes put over all pretty darn good. Keep up the good work.

Thanks nack

on another note tonight’s update added more onto the book maker path. expect it done by tomorrow and you can look forward to another job path being started.

Okay, Spelling errors. Before I start, please don’t get disheartened. You style of writing is very good and the story is engaging. I’m quite certain that a lot of these mistakes are down to the speed that you are typing. With a spell checker and grammar checker, you will have an excellent story! - Here goes:

*First page - choice of name - William is mispelt as Williaham.

*Second page, 'Good luck ${name} should be capitalised, as it is a sentence.

*Next line: You’re eight years old… It’s an very average day… ‘An’ should be ‘a’.

*Cleaning up vomit… you can’t quite tell what this person ate but it defiantly smells faintly of alcohol. ‘Defiantly’ should be ‘definitely’.

*Next sentence: Needs a capital letter.

*Same paragraph: If fact ya that’s what you will go do now. Should be ‘In’, not ‘If’. Get rid of ‘ya’ to make it read better or change it to yes with commas.

*Same paragraph, capital letter at start of sentence again: you back up slowly, …

*The first choice here says stop moveing - spelling, should be moving.

*Next page where the King asks you to find Queen Silva: The king stares down at you, before speaking. “go tell Queen Silva that the ball is at sunset tonight.” He says treating you like a messanger boy. “and Don’t mess this up.” he says walking off. You stand there for a few moments before the gravity of the situation kicks in. If you don’t get this message to the queen and she doesn’t show up to the party the king will surely punish you. You head into town enjoying the short rocky path you must take to get there. The palace is just a short distance from town seperated only by a small river. A river so small that the bridge is only there to stop you from getting inconvenced by the waters wet properties. Just into the town is the Sleepy dragon, an inn for rich people. this inn is mostly used by visting royalty and dukes and other nobles. Your almost sure the queen would be here, after all the rest of the towns inns would never be good enough to meet there standards. but how to go about find the queen…

Lots of little errors - corrected here:
The king stares down at you before speaking. “Go tell Queen Silva that the ball is at sunset tonight.” He says, treating you like a messenger boy. “And don’t mess this up.” He says walking off. You stand there for a few moments before the gravity of the situation kicks in. If you don’t get this message to the queen and she doesn’t show up to the party the king will surely punish you. A river so small that the bridge is only there to stop you from getting inconvenienced by the waters wet properties. Just into the town is the Sleepy Dragon, an inn for rich people. This inn is mostly used by visting royalty, dukes and other nobles. You’re almost sure the queen would be here, after all the rest of the towns inns would never be good enough to meet her standards. Yet how to go about finding the queen…

*For the last choice on the same page, I need Results now,… should be lowercase ‘r’ in results.

There are many more mistakes like this. I’d recommend putting the script through a spell checker. MSWord is good for that as you can exclude certain words (variables, for example) as being okay. Also, use a grammar checker too - MSWord can also do this.
