Blood For Poppies (Public Beta Test Now Live! Game Complete! 10/9/20)

I didn’t even know there was an option to punch her :joy: Granted, it’s been a while… reading through everyone’s playthroughs tells me there is a LOT to potentially miss

Yeah it wasn’t all that clear to me either. I picked an option that said “retaliate” when in a fright with her, and then I could choose further from there. And, well. Hence the punching. Or maybe it was a slap. I don’t actually know. I have this feeling you could do both? Oh well, I’ll probably replay this and find out

So, first off, thank you so much for the kind responses! The support and well wishes makes my heart feel warm and fuzzy. It’s incredible to see so many of the same people from 2012 still keeping up with the project. I’ll keep low key working on BfP. So, if you don’t hear anything, just assume I’m working as much as I can, but I’m a busy, busy bee.

Honestly, I forgot that was in there too. Haha. The idea is that if you do decide to physically retaliate, you’re not able to romance her. So, if you want to romance/have good relations with Carmelle, don’t hit her. It should work that way in real life, too.

But, on the other hand, I want give the MC an option to be a cruel, antisocial scumbag if they want. Oh boy, choices

Yes they will Suffer in Mara play through

Valid point. Originally, was thinking to retaliate by words- but I didn’t see any option for that after picking the “retaliate” choice. There were some previously thought, I think? That scene was kind of confusing for me.

Thanks for letting me know. I’ll go back and take a look at it with an eye toward clearing up any confusion. It’s been a while since I’ve really looked at that part of the game, tbh. Been pushing forward, so it’s helpful when areas like this are pointed out to me.

Some typos and missing code

Before playing it I thought it would be a piece of cake to rise loyalty for Doctor, well, how wrong I was :joy:

Thanks! Your typos have been noted in the official Bug Squishing document. Looks like there’s something funny going on with that scene. I need to take a closer look.

OMG your comment makes me wonder if it’s too difficult to raise loyalty with Doctor. I’ve done it successfully on a few of my runs through the game, but I also know exactly which responses to choose.

All right, so while working on Blood for Poppies (I’m working so diligently on ch. 6, just slaving away at my computer, all-nighters every night, I’m on a hunger strike until it’s done), I did this dorky thing I thought some people might be interested in. Ah, I miss @Pale_Strider. He was a great artist, and he captured the mood of every game he did illustrations for so well. Anyway, I used the art he did for BfP as the basis for this drawing I did of Carmelle.

I didn’t mean to make it look like she’s giving the world the middle finger, but doesn’t that describe all of her interactions with the MC so well?

I miss him too. Was such a great artist. Because he vanished I couldn’t continue his fairy tale game so it’s the reason I had to hire another artist as I felt wrong using artwork I hadn’t “paid” for yet.

Oh no! I think I remember that game he was working on. Luckily, I was able to pay him for the images he provided before he left, but I’ve always wanted an image of Doctor in the same style as the other characters. It’s been, what, 6 years or so? I can’t help but wonder what his artwork looks like now. He told me he did all of his artwork on an ipad or something with his finger, which blew my mind.

Yep the one where you could throw a frying pan at one of the three bears lol and yes it was mind blowing he did them all on tablet.

I only managed to get 2 loyalty score. I don’t know if it’s me but some part I thought the answer would lead to the change of loyalty (but it didn’t), and there’re parts that I just don’t want to choose cause I think it might affect my relationship with other characters.

I remember his “Tale of Phil” WIP, but I can’t remember if it was the fairy tale game or not? Ah, makes me wanna start a petition to bring him back!

@Karmesinrot

Interesting, interesting. Pretty sure a lot of the chances to accrue loyalty to Doctor hinge on screwing the other freaks over in magnificent fashion, but I hear people mention often enough how difficult it is to accrue “loyalty” that it’s something I really need to revise for the next update.

No that was a game he was working on solo. I’ll see if I can find the old files and will send you a link

Not to clutter this thread with off-topic discussion, but please do so. I’d love to see it.

I’ll dm it you if I find it.

UPDATE 7/22/2019

Throws confetti

Chapter six is up!

As always, report bugs and enjoy! There’s way more stuff I need to add and tweak, but this is it for now. If the game implodes, let me know.

There are quite a few incomplete WIP sections in chapter 6. You’ll know em when you see em. Try playing a few times for different outcomes. The story diverges a lot around chapter 5 and so.

Some notes for those playing chapter 3 and 4:

  1. Yes, there is a way to avoid death. Use the cloning machine… but be careful. There are consequences based on the choices you make throughout the game. Your loyalty to Doctor determines if you are able to ask him for help. Also, your manipulated/manipulative stat affects the outcome of the cloning process if you don’t have Doctor’s assistance.

  2. In order to open up the special conversation with Doctor at the end of chapter 3, you need to have a loyalty of 3 to the Doctor (previously, I had this variable set at 5). I did manage to get a loyalty of 3 with Doctor. However, some people have found it difficult to get this level of loyalty. I’m looking into it presently, and it’ll be easier in the future. For now, the MC should be very deferential, forgiving and “kiss ass” to Doctor to accrue loyalty. Willingness to screw the other freaks over is always a plus.

Notes for chapters 4 and 5

  1. There are a lot of “hidden” paths the MC can follow.
  • For instance, during the cloning process, Poppy may steal the clone’s consciousness if the player tends to be “manipulated” and Doctor isn’t present to stop her. This leads to Poppy being a character that is around the apartment.
  • The MC can also start the cloning process, but end it before you have Poppy crush the clone’s consciousness. The clone then becomes a character in chapter 5. This comes at a price, as then the MC can’t use the clone’s body to avoid prematurely dying.
  • Lastly, if Carmelle dies, the MC goes mad in reaction to her death, and the MC keeps Carmelle’s body, then the MC can clone Carmelle. The MC can try to train this new Carmelle clone to be like the old one. Again, this comes with a price. The MC loses the opportunity to avoid premature death.
  1. If the MC gives up the opportunity to take the clone’s body during the cloning process there is later the opportunity to avoid death, but only with help of Doctor or Poppy (should Poppy be around).

  2. Many, many options are opened up if you have a decent relationship with a particular character. Just be careful not to piss anyone off, as this shuts down some opportunities. By chapter 5, your MC should have already been able to start a romance with Kel, Ashton, or Carmelle, should the MC meet the requirements.
