Battle in the Ruins of a Dead Civilization (an off-site small contest for fun and glory)

I am going for a dark humour dystopian world Where Humanity empire destroyed absolutely all live on the Galaxy ( bacteria included) and only heavy enhanced humans with animals genes remain. And the bizarre society it causes. Spoiler, cannibalism doesn’t make a sane society

When I said defense system think less of traps and more like a sentient cloud of nanobots that can change form into whatever it needs to defend its masters. Mostly they favor humanoid forms to wander about but can form larger more robotic constructs if needed.

Hummm

while I think it’s ingenius as defense go . But…wouldn’t something that big like a construct…kinda could be lead to hit pillars and just bring the whole place down on themself ?

and Milla Jovovich is goorgeous…which was my point :kissing_closed_eyes:

The shifting is quite instantaneous if you lead one into a room they’d simpler split off to follow you.

I’m toying with the idea the MC has to use a special handgun that fires large shells that burst on contact and whatever is inside interferes with them so it can buy them time. There will also be emp stuff but they dont shut them down they are programmed to “ride” the emp wave so an emp grenade would effectively push the horde apart from the point of detonation. Most options will buy the MC time nothing more.

Edit: the weapons the constructs use however is effective against themselves. A failsafe in case who ever caused their extinction managed to turn the nanobots against their creators.

I found it interesting and intriguing and the weapon’s mechanism sounds to make a great story. However, in mine, all violence and all fighting are by humans themselves. Even kill bots are less cruel than humans. That is the motto that and Dark humour.

I think I’d like to participate in this, I just have to actually come up with a plot and some time to write it.

My first thought was to do something ‘The Nameless City’-esque by Lovecraft but I’ll probably change my mind twenty times before making a decision (it is my way). Maybe written like the entry to a journal, with two or three preset characters who each have their own strengths and faults, if that doesn’t end up too dull or cliche.

Will I get some kind of shame points if I don’t finish it on time? lol

doesn’t everyone ? lol

Nah . It’s for fun . And you could still share what you wrote with everyone once its over . And you can also use the whole event, as a good exercice on doing things ith ‘pressure’ and a ‘Deadline’ .

No, you won’t. This is for fun and makes friends with other authors!

In fact, I was thinking to make a pm with all authors participating to share stuff and cheerings.

Maybe just leave the mc gender up to the player and never mention it out right.

Does it have to be a fallen empire or an empire in a state of decay and actively collapsing?

Battle in a fallen civilization It doesn’t have to be an empire but civilisation has to have fallen or befallen now. Also a battle. How you interpret the terms beyond that is up to you

This is beating a dead horse, but the lack of variables/stats/etc really does make it feel like using primitive tools from a bygone era. Which, I suppose, is the point of it.

I tried not to get over-ambitious with my idea, so I’m shooting for a protagonist with a never specified gender and two set companions. I fear that mine may be a bit more linear than the others, but it’s all in good fun anyway. About 2,000 words so far. which is a little less than I would have liked to have at this point. Hopefully I can get some more in later. Good luck to everyone else!

That first idea is definitely not too far off from where I am heading with it.

It’s definitely a challenge. I’ve been trying to wrap my head around it myself.

The challenge of lack of stats is helping me a lot to learning planning scenes vignettes and go forward and return with minor words.

Only for that, I am extremely happy having tried out. I only hope not to make the ridiculous too much compared with the others that are far beyond my level.

Never used variables, scripting, coding, etc. in any of my stories. I soon learned during the one time I did a more “game” like story with stats and inventory, I just don’t have the patience (and greatly dislike doing it anyway) for anything other than just pure writing which I enjoy.

Even when I made a more permanent home at CYS, I still continued to do it the old “Infinite Story way” rather than using their fancy editor over there.

As someone who is pretty variable-dependant, I’m finding it a challenge, but a nice break. After being on hiatus from traditional novel-writing for the past little while, it’s weird how doing this is both easier and harder than variable-based writing.

There are definitely times when it seems like the lack of variables is really hindering the depth of the story and characters. Either way, I’m chugging along and have a few pages worth of plotless-drivel so far.

(Also, if I’m the emergency medical hologram, we’re all doomed. I really should be demoted.)

Hm. Wasn’t expecting that. I expected something strange because you mentioned creepypasta, but that was well beyond that. I liked it quite a bit.

Currently, my primary issue is my general lack of adjustment to this primitive program. For example, I was trying to make a dialogue tree in which the player would be able to choose three out of the five options before the story continued on. Not so difficult in itself, but then I decided with remarkable idiocy on my part that I wanted the options to vanish after the player has selected them. In choicescript this would be a relatively simple procedure, but here it becomes a vexing nightmare of permutations and endlessly copy-pasting text as you account for every option. This single conversation tripled my word count.

I really enjoyed that. Always fun to see something different.

Went through again and saw Kelly’s Choice this time. Adds a new wrinkle to it.

I suppose I’ll write in this. Good to keep thebrust off, at least.
