Battle in the Ruins of a Dead Civilization (an off-site small contest for fun and glory)

I only have near 10,000 words done. Also, a question is driving me crazy is there a damn way to make rooms separately from the entire story and joined all later on? Because it is annoying me to no end writing all in order and having to come each scene from the previous. I am having more problem with that . Than anything, Choicescript could develop.

SERIOUSLY IF I see that red square about you have to come from a direct choice to make the scene I would cry…

You should just be able to “loop” rooms through their choice links using their nicknames or room number if you didn’t bother with a nick.

You can link multiple paths to reunite to a single one that way. I know I did that a few times when writing Legend.

Looping cuts down on the need to have multiple copies of the same text for choices that lead to the same results.

It’s a bit trickier but could try to “orphan” a room, to get away from having to do it in sequential order.

You basically delete all links to a room so it’s cut off from the rest of your story, then when you want to relink it just write a choice that will link to whatever that room’s number/nickname was.

Thanks, I know how to loop, However, I want to track down a series of variables that are key to my story so I have four copies or everything plus variations each one of them with their own loops that can not cross with any other of the variations. So, this system is ruthless maniacal homicidal in how track choices give me hundreds of numbers random I am supposed to track because I can’t put a nickname to a scene previous to make the damn scene so Each time I want to start a scene I have to make a place holder with a placeholder choice to give a scene a name then loop back to the choice in the scene previous in all the iterations and write the nick of the scene I will make in the future and when it made erase the placeholders.
In each choice, In each vignette… In each loop. I without kidding pass more time go back and forward like a monkey putting nicknames to scenes than writing… And don’t get me started on the fact have copy scenes over and over to just change two paragraphs or One entire choice between other 7.

Sorry for the rant but oh men I prefer writing on a stone in a Cave before using this lack of everything language. Is draining my soul.

The good side of the coin. It is like I have to plan everything I have basically all game iterations planned with nicknames . So learn to plan I am learning. So it is being useful. But I will never touch this language again.

Shit, gotta keep my anniversary badge updated. Guess I’ll post here.

Something something glory to CYStia, greatest of interactive fiction.

In all seriousness, I’m glad this contest is happening. I’ve made it no secret that I find a decent chunk of COG and Hosted Games mediocre (mostly due to the “delayed branching” choice structure making most choices seem fake in the BioWare sense) but that doesn’t mean there aren’t competent writers here alongside some kickass games. So a contest between the two sites is a cool way to build bridges.

I won’t be entering on the CYS side because I’m busy with my own story over there that will obviously be way cooler than whatever any of my comrades and enemies not comrades whip up. Plus, I definitely won’t join up on the COG side because I’m a CYStian at heart. But, if I get the chance, I may write something up for fun.

Glad to see a Cys person here and hope this service to not having dramas anymore that need one had to go there to defend herself from attacks

Both pages should be fine with each other as we enjoy the same media and the same entertainment. IF is small enough to the two best communities are in petty and stupid wars. Instead of working together to rehabilitate the genre.

So I am totally on board The. Olympic contest lol.

I am even thinking if somehow I ended this I will make a definitive version and publish it in both sites as a peace offering for my part. Even if I thought not many will want to read mine lol

Does a story have to be public for others to test it?

I think you can make them a co-author temporarily while you have it on private and they can test it.

No, you’re the fleet admiral.

Fleet Almirante sounds Too much JL Picard and I am more pew Kirk style
. Real Kirk I mean not the youngster that has the charisma of a stone. Will Shatner With 80 years is far more better than the youngster.

Sigh. I’ve scrapped my current story. Didn’t like it and now going in a completely different direction.

I’m keeping it under wraps until I’ve got further with the new story. But I’m quite hopeful of this concept.

My entry “A Familiar Magic” is 972 words so far.

The summary is “the player is a familiar of a wytch who is on the verge of her trial. Which takes place in the ruins of the elves who have long been extinct”

Looks, like a solid concept

Thanks. The cool thing is the familiar is a former wytch herself. In this world a wytch gets her magic from a vow with the source you get the power in exchange for your soul when you die. Said soul is then used to build a familiar to help train a new generation of wytches. Familiars also possess all their memories from their past life and if one dies they are literally reborn unless they have done enough to earn the right to be let free. (100 year service)

Sounds a good concept for a game without stats

Having a set character helps as I already know how strong they are strengths and weaknesses so can do choices and scenes accordingly.
