@faewkless One would say that’s an interesting heart @SheaMcD Lol wise words indeed although… @Dark_Stalker Mmm the response of an assassin who’ve embraced their role @reaper95 Beware the words of an assassin who’ve lost their empathy for the world. @Interestedparty Solid reasoning there, the words of a survivor @Cecilia_Rosewood Deep o.o
All in all I’ve got a firm thought process on that reaction to companion conversation. Also got a solid idea and layout of the MC’s sanctuary. I’m still stuck on why no one mentioned having a bathroom or a kitchen in their sanctuary. But ah that’s many Arcs away I would think.
I think what’s next up to consider is your familiar/pet, unlike before this version will be at least a bit more livelier, more interactive. What do you want to have the choice to do with it? Mainly for interludes when the two of you have some free time alone.
I remember reading that you couldn’t choose a familiar why not have a bunch of animals we can choose from and in interludes probably play with them and feed them (if they need fed)
Because of two reasons. First being the MC can not control the world, they cannot decide someone elses name, gender, identity, or otherwise, they can however influence the world. Second being for the sake of not having a ton of unnecessarily code (how the familiar moves, what it sounds like, what it feels like, how you can interact with it: all from choosing creatures different from one another) the familiar has already been created.
Perhaps that was a bunch of over-explaining ah well. They’ll need feeding nods could always have a companion do it if the MC doesn’t. Do you have certain “games” in mind to play with em? The familiar will be a furry creature and a young one at that.
Ehm, fetch? Or hide-and-seek if it’s a non-canine familiar. I’d imagine felines 'd be rather good at that.
Or teaching it basic skills like sit, heel and stuff like that. Or less basic stuff like ‘hide this item’ (mock murder weapon), ‘distract that person’ or ‘bite’.
I would say that I fight to protect my ideals, and to further myself to make a difference in the world. I would want my familiar to be a dragon, or a viscous mutant bunny, with spikes and acid spit, but its fluffy.
I’m at a bit of a crossroads with a certain scene. So your target begs for their life and offers you the chance to spare them and be heavily compensated. What would be your reaction in such a situation.
What has the target done, to become a target? Murderer, villain, goes against my ideals, then I finish the mission. If the target is relatively safe, and a decent person, then I probably don’t finish the assignment.
It’s an interesting theme in the game isn’t it, not questioning orders. I could have sworn I had an assassin proverbs for this…
Who’s to say? Assassins are on a need to know basis. He is a target. He must die.
Assassin proverb: There is no such thing as innocence, everyone is guilty of something. If those somethings are worthy of death, know with out a doubt the assassins will be there."
Innocents are forbidden from being killed. Get to know your target too well…learn too much about them…become too close… and you will soon be unable to complete your task…your duties. And thus hunted as a traitor.
Assassin proverbs “Ignorance is bliss”
But really, you’re an initiate. Only the sages play judge and jury, you my friend play the part of executioner. They have been deemed worthy of death. Will you question your orders?
I fight because id be bored if I didn’t to be honest .
If a victim begged me for mercy ,I’d kill them before they could end their sentence. Unless they were a child ,or someone sympathetic.
Hi, I’ve been hiding for a while but your questions were interesting so I thought I’d tentatively poke my head out and give me own answers… which are actually all questions.
If a companion asked why I fight I’d be kind of confused, as an assassin I’d try to avoid fighting. Did you mean like “Why do you kill?” And if so well, is this companion an assassin or someone else?
If someone begged for mercy I’d be inclined to spare them but I’m not an assassin who’s been conditioned from childhood to kill without question or remorse… Of course if we were actually played an assassin that was conditioned to kill without thought or remorse we wouldn’t have a choice not to kill this character, so I guess it comes down to the potential victim. If they’re sympathetic I might be inclined to spare them. Did we get to know this character and become close to them? Do we know anything about them at all? Is this a turning point for our character? Does our character have any reason to consider sparing this character besides the potential for monetary gain? I mean, is there any chance of us surviving not killing this character?
If those weren’t rethorical questions than I’ll oblige an answer them I have got to stop taking showers so early in the morning when I’m trying to get some sleep. Gets me in a story making mood…and now I can’t sleep…ah well.
So! This would be a fellow assassin. Consider this one curious about what motivates you to fight on. Different assassins have different means. Some simply love what they do and they fight because it makes them feel alive, others because of fear, they must or else they’ll be at the other end. And so on.
Consider yourself an assassin raised in an environment where you are thought, punishing the wicked is your duty, the reason for you existence. The sanctuary is your home and the assassins your family. (IF you weren’t born to an assassin family that is) You were trained to be a killing machine. Raised to act the part of different roles, have different skills, and learn common educational needs.
It’s an average target. One of many you’ll come across. So not a turning point. I’m sure you can expect nearly all of them to beg for their lives. You wouldn’t have the chance or time to get to know the target. You know basic information so to identify them and most likely a brief description of their wrong. Other than the assassin considering the act to be wrong, monetary gain, there’s joining a faction that thinks the same way. Well of course…just like the old saying goes. It’s not a crime if no one knows about it.
If a fellow assassin is asking why I fight that seems to indicate that we’re rather close and trust one another enough to potentially reveal potentially damaging information to each other… so I suppose I’d be honest unless I had a reason not to trust them. I guess that my character as an assassin would believe in the ideals of killing bad people for the greater good, but it’s also in large part due to having been raised to believe that I am in fact killing for the greater good. Maybe I’m actually not. Maybe there’s a better way… I don’t know if my character would have any reason to think that though.
If you do choose to spare a target wouldn’t that have to be a turning point for your character though? I mean, your whole life is built around dutifully killing your targets and not questioning it right? If you actually believe in that you’d have to have their belief shaken to even consider sparing a target. Beyond that there’s also the consequences to keep in mind. The assassins would mark you as a traitor and come after you unless you somehow managed to convincingly fake the target’s death. That seems like a pretty good deterrent for sparing someone just for money. Not only that but there’s the natural consequences of them being alive. I mean, people who have no significance to anyone don’t get assassins hired against them.
What do the assassins consider worthy of death? Cheating on your spouse? Annoying someone with enough money to hire them?
The problem with specific questions about vague situations is that situations themselves are not generally nearly as vague. There are all sorts of details that determine a choice.
Maybe our MC is inclined to spare someone because the power of boners is stronger. Ding
That’s the question. Sparing a target. You might be well rewarded, but can you live with the constant guilt and feeling that The Order knows what you’ve done and can and will kill you or hunt you down for your traitorous act?
The MC has never taken a life yet. When the game opens they have completed their “brainwashing and basics”. (BnB). They are still bottom rank. If anything used for scouting, sometimes tagging along with an assassin to view the acts and get use to it. All of this while they are being assessed. The final test and being allowed to call themselves assassins, is taking the life of a target. All these years the assassins have been making sure the MC is (1)Capable (2)Physically and mentally prepared. The final step is emotional preparedness. Show if they are (3)Able.
Haha yes, you’ll need a good cover up job. And you’ll have to wonder if ever your target will come out of hiding later, although doubtful since the assassins would come after them even more mercilessly.
Ah justifications, I’ll leave that up to the game itself, kinda wraps into spoilers.
So then is the question whether you would spare a target for no reason other than money? Cause that does make it simpler, but still not simple and without major repercussion. The MC is supposed to be a fanatically loyal assassin raised from birth do be fanatically loyal. They need a reason to suddenly give that all up for money. Were they actually not raised to be fanatically loyal?
Sorry, that last sentence was a reference to Cinema Sins. I guess you’ve never heard of them. They’re quite funny though. Check them out on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/user/CinemaSins
I was sort of referring to the trope of characters who should be enemies giving up their enmity because of sexual attraction. Or in the case of the assassin, the assassin being attracted to the target and being unwilling to kill.
Now there’s a challenge >.> Speaking of the option to spare targets won’t happen often. Too much extra coding >.> that and Your an assassin for makers sake.
I’m curious now, if your target was a fellow assassin who simply couldn’t bring themselves to assassinate anyone, but simply knows too much about The Order to be allowed free…your being tasked with the job of executing him as a traitor. Would you consider the situation ideal for sparing em?
@Shoelip The MC is raised to be loyal yes… huh…that’s really something to think about. Though if money isn’t a good enough reason, taking into account money tends to change many a hearts.
Doubt. When you begin doubting everything around yo. The integrity of those your surrounded by. Questioning the legitimacy of your being. Soon that may lead to hesitation when dealing with a foe. And that may lead to sparing. And inevitably betrayal.
Oy I thought that might be the idea behind it if anything. Was gonna refer to what @poison_mara mentioned on that point, but sadly she hasn’t been on for a month.
That’d make me think twice about it, and make me feel bad about it afterwards, but wouldn’t stop me from doing what I’m supposed to do. Of course if said person had a family and that family would have to be silenced as well that’d be a whole different matter. I’d brave The Order’s retaliation for something like that.
