Apex Patrol

I’ed be cool with that.

i would like 2 see u make a 3rd game that’s more in the vein of Star Wars or one that reminds me of Marine Raider with a futuristic twist…
Or at least make a GTA type game where you play as the leader of a group of International Ex-Pat Thieves completin’ various heists leadin up 2 the HEIST OF A LIFETIME!
Dont judge me ok, i played Kane & Lynch 2 i loved the MP feature even though i mainly played ARCADE Mode

Zed, I can’t really contemplate a new game until I finish the one I’m working on. That said, a gang of thieves ala Oceans Eleven could be interesting. I think the trick there would be making the final heist of a lifetime somehow connected to something that the player considers to be a personal vested interest. At the very least, they should want to keep it out of the hands of the current owner or else punish them for possessing it.

You know, you could add the potential to fall in love with those members you can choose, you know Katrana, etc

I considered that, Amesgaizto. Indeed, I initially had the idea that you could shape the destinies of all your Junior Officers. You could help Gunny get past his reluctance to accept promotion, put your XO on a Fleet track or not, see that Ensign Barnsy became a lieutenant, restore Lieutenant Takao’s flagging confidence, etc.

Alas, Apex Patrol ended up being too sprawling as it stood and I had begun to worry that it would not remain coherent.

However, if I ever do something with more Romantic options (I believe Apex Patrol takes place over too short a time to have a realistic arc for that), there will certainly be options along the lines you are thinking.

Okay, the next patch on Apex Patrol should include an option to directly stat your ship and captain, as well as the ability to skip ahead to various break-points of the introduction.

It likely comes too late to rekindle interest for those who have already played, but I will be incorporating the idea behind it into future writing projects. If you have any thoughts on the matter, I would be eager to hear them.

Is it possible to pull the damaged mining ship out of the field without it being destroyed? I’m just asking because that’s one of the things I never managed to do, and I’d probably try again if it were possible. I also noticed that I never helped the other miners even though I said I would.

What’s your next game gonna be about?

I enjoyed “Apex Patrol” very much and played it several times. The consequences of each of my choices seemed very well thought out and in balance with previous choices, as well as my strengths/weaknesses. Nice to be able to choose your own arch-enemy. Loved the romantic-psycho version of Kasador!

@AllenGies
Could you post a current link so I do not have to hunt for it thanks.

It’s on CoG itself. Check under ‘make your own games’.

Ok thanks

Found a small error. This line (it is a #choice during the dinner):

It was a breach of everything the Academy stood for. I turned what I knew over to the Academy instructors and they… let Kasador go through with the hack. I suppose they hoped she would have reconsidered at the last moment or lay open claim to changing the simulation. No such luck and Kasador was shortly thereafter expelled."

does not start with a quotation mark. Also, I’m in a loop: I have Plasma Batteries and when the fight with the stars system starts (not on Earth, the other place), I go through this list of choices:

#“Close to short range. That is where we can do the most damage.”
#“Go for point-blank, ready our Plasmic Batteries and damn the consequences!”
#“Do it anyway! The stasis field should be able to keep plasma out as well as in!”

And I end up in the same spot. No damage seems to happen to either side, despite descriptions appearing to say I’m winning. This is what I get when I hit the start of the loop:

"A simple maneuver unmasks your Plasmic Batteries and Sovereign pivots to match. The enemy’s remaining plasma ejection ports begin to glow white hot. Two furious waves roar out, meet in the middle, merge for the briefest of instants before disentangling themselves. Shields flicker and fail but your full broadside proves far stronger, rakes Sovereign brutally from bow to stern whereas Ranger Seven’s capacitors merely drain dry to hold off the enemy’s weakened plasma storm.

Savage Sovereign limps off. Debris spews out from her ruptured innards. The ship is lamed if not crippled. Round and round and round again your ships duel, pound upon one another with flashing red masers to no avail If it were not for the threat of sudden death, it would almost be boring."

No matter what, all it seems that I can do is change things so that I take damage. IIRC, I have high shields, nearly no maser, and high thrust. I also targeted her plasma batteries. I think the battle is supposed to loop, but if it is, it appears I’ve found a way to prevent damage to either side, which is probably a bad thing. (unless that’s supposed to be an unwinnable battle)

I can probably recreate my steps if you want.

Edit: Actually, I get the second half of what I quoted with a lot of different maneuvers I do, but it appears that I can’t do any damage, only take it.

Shoelip- It should be possible to pull the damaged mining vessel out of the asteroid field without destroying it. The main stats involved are either Luck or Intellect depending on how you go about things.

I really should have put in something for having a high level of tractor beams too. That, and the not-tagged-as-rescued-the-other-miners issue, will be incorporated into the next update.

Zed- My next game is going to be a Western. It starts around 1866, just after the American Civil War and the during the building of the transcontinental railroad. You’ll be playing someone who is roped into being a U.S. Marshal.

Reaperoa-I’ll look into the looping problem. Thanks for writing up a chunk of the text, that will help me find it quickly. Sounds like I forgot to include a goto statement or else put them out of sequence.

EDIT: Yep. I screwed up a line of code which made things into a continuous loop until your ship was crippled. With high shields (And accompanying recharge rate), that made it into an infinite loop. This should be fixed in the next patch. Thanks again.

malenemarie- I’m glad you liked the romantic-psycho Kasador. Definitely one of the more fun sections to write.

As a more general question to all players, which Kasador did you prefer?

This game was a bit short for me(really) mostly on my first play though(I found the shortest path even abile to take).

I think I preferred the romantic Kasador. Main reason being the chance for redemption.

I usually played against Science!Kasador, but the psycho-lover was rather interesting.
