Aha, thank you! I appreciate it!

A bit early though, it’s not quite Jan 4th in my timezone yet, but thanks all the same!

Oh shut! Finally I can say something! Happy birthday!! (I’ve been lurking in the shadows with nothing important or significant to say xD)

Thank you, guys! And…

You know, I did. I had a really good day. My feet are killing me, and I’m probably getting leg cramps tonight, but it was definitely worth it. I’m in a really good mood.

A really generous mood, too, so I have two gifts for y’all.

First, here’s this great commission I had done of our uncaring swordsman, and that charming socialite that somehow absolutely makes him care…

This – and the next one – were done by the incredible MidoriTV, who’s an absolute treat to work with and just an overall amazing gal. Definitely recommend you check out her work.

And second, because I assure you that, despite what it may seem, I don’t… enjoy torturing those of you who are Ignis fans, I have another commission to show.

To preface that, though, there’s two things to note.

  1. While this character has been referenced a bit (and, truly, has a lot to do with certain aspects of the plot), they have not made a physical appearance in the game just yet. You’ll have to wait… a little bit longer to meet them.

  2. While the art is undoubtedly gorgeous, the design is… not finished. The general aspects will remain the same, but some things (skin color being one of them, I’m not entirely sure yet) may end up being different eventually. Not to worry though, the similarities with… well, you’ll see, are absolutely staying. That was on purpose.

Without further ado…

Meet V. Or, to be clearer… meet Victoria.

I’m not saying I’m jealous,

But I’m jealous…

Ah, hold your horses my friend, hold your horses! We’re still missing quite a bit of information and development in some of these matters, so don’t be feeling too bad quite yet.

of course, when the end-game is laid out, then you’ll have all the reason in the world and some more to curse me out, but…

Oh, no, I missed your birthday! :grimacing:

Apropos of NOTHING AT ALL, do you have a favourite dinosaur?

Hmmm, my knowledge of dinosaurs has gone down quite a bit since I was a kid (did you know I wanted to be a paleonthologist until I was, like, 12?), but…

I think thd Triceratops is my favorites. I really loved it in Dinosaur Kings, that old japanese show for the arcade game.

Having a jump in memory, been a while since I was on this thread >>
Did you change their relationship or has it always been like this?

BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY TRIKE HERD!

There were… the seeds of something like this since the start, but there was a change at a certain point, yes. I don’t know if you were here post Chapter 4 update, but I recommend you read this post for info on what’s happened.

And what will happen, eventually.

Heyo, nice! That looks super dope! Is it from the Jurassc World game that came out a couple months ago? I was eyeing it up during the winter sales but couldn’t decide for sure.

It is. I put up a quick paddock with trikes for the screeenshot. How much the game is worth to you depends on how much you like dinos.

New to this WIP. I want to like it? The concept is fun, but there are some off-putting things. At least to start with. There are still some pronoun issues where a female character is referred to as he. Such as in chapter one when discussing the dream self with Lat. They get referred to as he even if the MC is female. There are also points, like in training, where MC ā€œleave the girls at a distanceā€ (don’t remember exact wording) and I really want to go Sir…I AM a girl….which felt really weird. It gives the impression of separation from them gender wise.

Also for the dinner, being forced to wear a tux. Aki gets gowns and Ignis gets heels, and then female MCs are forced into tuxes? This feels like it should be a choice rather than something forced upon the MC. Forced masculinity is rough. Especially if you were trying to add gender choices for female and non-binary. Coming fresh off pronoun mixups and feeling of being treated less as ā€œone of the girlsā€ and more of an other, gave an impression that the story itself was in line for straight male MCs with a writing voice absent for females and NB. Whether intended or not. It made it rough riding to get to Chapter 4. Which is a shame, because Chapter 4 was really nicely done and provided for some really nice options. It makes it feel a little disjointed and I would have missed it if I hadn’t forced myself through some of the rough patches of the other chapters. Hopefully pacing and choices keep pace with Chapter 4 moving forward.

Hey, hello! I’m glad you liked Chapter 4, and thank you for letting me know of earlier issues!

I assure you the intent isn’t to make it seem like a male-MC favored story, that’s not something I want to do. I had a couple issues as I got used to the coding, so it’s definitely a mistake, not something done on purpose. I’d like to fix that asap. Do you think you could show me the lines where the game misgendered your character?

And you’re right about the training dialogue and the tuxedo (someone’s actually brought the latter point up before). I’ve added a small choice on what to wear to the Dinner in my copy of the game, and I’ll rework the lines about the girls.

My intent isn’t really to make the game seem male-centric, but that’s… kind of my IRL wheelhouse (well, I’m not exactly straight, but beyond that…), so I really appreciate posts like this where it’s called out and I’m told what doesn’t work. It’s incredibly helpful.

Thank you for listening to the feedback. That’s the specific pronoun issue I ran into. Like I said I’m glad I pushed to chapter 4, because it does find it’s footing there. Getting to run around with companions and learning about them was enjoyable.

Ah, yes, I seem to have forgotten to use the script bit there, it’s been fixed (on my copy at least, not updating yet for certain reasons, see below)! I also changed the small bit about the girls, see here:

ā€œUh, Seek-ā€

ā€œAnyway, uh, now that Ignis is here, we can continue our training!ā€ says Seeker, quickly changing the topic. ā€œ$!{name}, come with me to the other end of the room, let’s give Ignis and Lat some space for the energy shenanigans,ā€ he continues, beckoning you to follow him.

Let me know if that flows better.

And again, I’m glad Chapter 4 was to your liking! If there’s anything specific you’d like to see more of, or something you thought was weak, or something you’d like to just hear my reasoning on, let me know! I’m always up for a quick convo.

That aside, and this is meant for everyone else as well, I’ve actually stepped back from working on Chapter 5 this week. I’m working on some extra additions to Chapter 4, like an extra option for Seeker/Ignis/Nova, a… slower route for Lat’s romance (you’re still getting into a relationship, there just won’t be any, uh, y’know, ā€˜domming’), as well as introducing some feedback (like the player getting a bit more insight on Seeker’s monologues at the rooftop if they have high charisma), as well as that profanity filter that’s been so hard to get to work, so if there’s anything you guys would like to see added, please let me know so I can have it fresher on my mind and can tackle it (or explain why it isn’t feasible, perhaps) soon.

Another thing I’m considering (though it’s less ā€˜considering’ and more 'I’m going to but I need to see how I make it work), is adding the chance for the player to choose to be trans. It wouldn’t change much of the story, and it’d appear when choosing your gender at the start (akin to something like, ā€˜a girl, though I was originally considered to be a man when I was born. But now I get to be…’). Currently, the plan is to have the transitioning process be something that started when you moved to Giga City (which in my own headcanon happened when the MC was 18, but of course ymmv).

Aside from that, I’m also trying to see if I can make it possible for the player (well, non-binary players, at least), to choose their own pronouns, instead of being limited to They/Them. I believe that Cataphrak’s Hero of Kendrickstone series allows this, and it’s something I’d like to see in this game. It’d require a bit of code-finangling that I’m not sure I have a perfect handle on yet, as well as a bit of hand-wavium (ā€œHey, how does every League Member immediately know my pronouns?ā€ ā€œUh, well, they heard Lat use them and just immediately picked up on it, y’know. They’re smart and stuff.ā€), but it’d allow for a lot more inclusivity, which is something I definitely want the story to offer everyone.

After all, anyone can be a hero, no matter what or how you call yourself. The important thing is we fight bad guys, right?

So… yeah. If you guys have any ideas or suggestions on what you’d like to see in these chapters, please speak up! I’m dedicating all of my attention to it right now, so I’m all ears.

Also, the Prologue and Chapter 1 are definitely getting a bit of a re-write, though not just yet. A good chunk of Seeker’s and Forlorn’s dialogue feels kinda tropey and doesn’t exactly mix with their later characterization, so that’ll be next on the list after Chapter 5 is out.

You are sounding like me with ā€œrewritingā€ and ā€œbut later, afterā€¦ā€ comments @Jjcb.

Just saying.

Being an Ignismancer gets harder and harder every day… Are you sure you’re not grinning and enjoying this on your end?

I know you said the art piece of V wasn’t finished but I’d like to draw attention to the similar jackets if not the same one Seeker has :eyes:

I’ve been saying this forever but this is Seeker’s story and we’re all just living in it.
