A Tale of Heroes (WIP) - 224k words. Updated 29/01/2025!

I have a theory myself: That we (or Lat) are the big bad’s reincarnated lover because honestly, it makes sense.

Oh, that would be messed up if it was true. On my play through, I’m romancing Lat. If she was the Big Bad, that would break my MC’s heart. But would also drive him to save her (help her to remain good).

MC and Ignis should not even need physical activity as energy manipulators and producers they could, conceivably, transfer power directly to the grid.

Well you know me, buy better clothes would be pretty high up on that list for my mc. No offense to Ignis but she buys us either stuff more suited for middle-aged guys with the suits or assumes like many other people that the mc has Lat’s taste in contemporary clothes…big hint my mc doesn’t.

Also our mc’s temporary outfit they are given by the team on their first visit to the mansion…wouldn’t sweatpants be more comfortable than jeans, especially since they train in it?
I mean sweatpants are part of the tracksuit for a reason after all.

Isn’t it more likely stuck on the Senate leader’s desk? Because Stratton would sign it in a heartbeat and that Maxwell guy seems even worse.

Yeeeep. Though if things ever got to that point, Ignis would probably do the physical activity, she could use some extra exercise, even if she’s not the flying brick type.

Here we discover the fact that either I exercise very poorly or not very often :stuck_out_tongue:

You’re right, but it can also be handwaved with ‘special Nova-clothes’, which means they’re tweaked enough to serve perfectly for any physical conflict the player may find themselves in.

Er.

Well.

You know.

<.<

You’re right, yes. I was trying to be funny and hint that Stratton’s stewing because none of his party’s congress members are quite so dumb as to introduce something that will clearly get voted down by at least 85% of the chamber.

@Jjcb heya quick question before work lol something in a previous post of yours stuck out to me what did you mean by the collars? Or did I read that wrong …it’s in references to another’s uniform question.
Hope this finds everyone doing well.

Oh, when I say the collars, I mean the nifty collar/necklace Nova gives you and Lat in Chapter 1. The ones that serve to hide your identity from cameras and people. Apologies if I was being unclear.

@Jjcb no worries lol it’s been a while since I had played the demo  thanks for the reminder and out of curiosity is the demo in dashingdon the most up-to-date or is just through the link here in the forums?

Ah, yes, it’s the most up-to-date version for now. The update’s taken… quite a lot longer than I’m honestly comfortable saying out loud, but I am more or less done except for the final scene. It’s a pretty heavy chapter, clocking in at about 50k-ish words so far.

But as I mentioned above, I’m mostly done, life’s just been taking me for a loop the last couple weeks (pay cut at work means I have to take more hours for less money, i’m traveling between cities again daily since we’re back to in-person classes, and my keyboard just… straight up stopped recognizing several keys, so I had to buy a new one, etc etc), so it’s been slower going than it should be. Still, it should be out rather soon (i know, i know, empty promise at this point, but trust me), but I’ll avoid giving a specific date so life can’t just screw me out of sticking to it.

@Jjcb Glad to know an update is coming soon. But don’t rush yourself or tire yourself out. The fans can wait until you are ready. And when i say fans i mean the readers :joy: (Even though i see myself as a fan of yours ) Keep up the good work, brother :metal:t3::facepunch:t3:

I had a great first run through of the game so far! A capitalization words can be fixed but I’m sure you know where those are already and have fixed them. Can’t wait to see the rest of the demo!

Good WIP so far. Lat and Ignis tied for best girl.

Forlorn best hero tho don’t @ me

From the angle of his character–that being the sum of his actions, beliefs, and the way he acts around more than just the MC–Forlorn isn’t a bad sort. I actually really enjoy interaction with him because he’s probably one of the most upfront people in the game so far; with the exception of Aki, he’s pretty open/blunt about just about everything with no foreshadowed “deep secrets” to dig out.

The minute the stick up his butt is extracted, he might turn out to be one of the best characters in the whole of the story.

I know that history has been changed by the inclusion of superheroes. Are there any specific myths that are more off the wall thanks to them? Maybe a specific example you can share?

Oh, yes, a lot of tales have grown… “tall”, thanks to the existence of powered beings.

For example, take Alfred the Great. While it is commonly believed that he hid in the marshes of Somerset where he built a fort, in this universe, a common tale is that Somerset was actually a land of plains, and that Alfred was the one that used his powers to turn it into marshes and build a fort from which to face off against the invaders.

Others claim that Excalibur, the oft-mentioned sword belonging to Arthur Pendragon, was actually forged from a comet, which Merlin used his magic to divert into non-populated areas.

It was also thought that the reason the American Continent took so long to be discovered was the fact that something or other was keeping it hidden from the Old World (which, considering what ended up happening, uh… well, they were probably right to do so.)

Another myth is that Nero was actually mentally unsound. Not that out there on its face, admittedly, but the claim says that Nero encountered an angel in his childhood, and the revelation and show of power was what drove him insane. The Great Fire of Rome was blamed on the idea that Nero saw this angel while walking throughout the city, and set Rome aflame in the hopes of killing it (him? her? them?).

There are others, of course. The ‘Aegean Destruction’, which is what’s claimed to have made the Aegean Islands disappear, the fate of the Controller, what really happened to Qin Shi Huang, and etc, but I’d rather keep a couple more in my backpocket for the future… Just in case.

Just popping by to praise the worldbuilding and characters again. You’ve got a good game shaping up, Juan, and it honestly seems criminally underrated.

And just so that I further discussion here: does anyone else have anything like the MC’s imaginary friend? Which is to say, the “other us” that we see in our mind.

Nope! Apart from the MC and Lat, no one you know gets those visits from their ‘dream selves’. The rest of the League has figured out their powers on their own, and they certainly haven’t been getting cryptic warnings about some ‘really serious threat’ coming soon.

That said, that doesn’t mean no one knows what they’re all about. There are two characters who know what they are. One has seen it happen before, and another has powers that has let them figure out the gist of everything.

Sidenote: The chapter will be coming out in a day or two. It won’t be completed, it’ll be missing about 5% of its plot, but what you’ll get are all the romance scenes, a set up for what’s coming next, and a pretty good stopping point. Current word count: 60K ish words.

Also, when the chapter comes, there’s something I have to announce regarding development. I’m not putting the game on pause, or slowing my work on it, don’t worry! It’s in regards to a certain plot point.
