And your story title could refer to the systematic killing of your fellow hitmen
Or
A group of said killers
As a “murder” being defined as a group of crows…cool

Instead of the devil
You could use the half human half undead Norse goddess Hel
Would give the phrase dragged down to Hel a new meaning
