Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven -- set for release 10/28/16

Well this is probably bad roleplaying but the characters I’m playing would always consider “kill bad people to save good people” way too simplistic. The option I would have picked (to demand more answers and possibly use force if required) wasn’t provided so I picked the most palatable one given that I had basically no information on the situation whatsoever except that these three were suspicious. I’ll admit that I’ve got a bias against causing harm to women that carries over into my choices with female video game characters. If the state of feminist critique of video games is any indication though, I’m not alone in that bias, though maybe alone in admitting it.

Then you should have shot the cowboy; the one with the best weapon of the three there, the most dangerous and a man. The M14 is just as effective as the AR/M 15.

That’s the kicker. It all happens in a few seconds, really, and in those few seconds, your MC has to make a choice that could compromise their morals if they were to act. My MC chose to act for the safety of another. That’s not to say the choice ain’t gonna haunt him for a bit considering he didn’t even manage to save Lopez. Honestly, if I had the choice, I would have had my MC hang his head in … defeat? Anguish? A lovely combination of those two?

I can respect that. The only reason I shot at White was 'cause she was the ringleader. Remy could’ve targeted the other two, but logic says to take out the leader and watch the group crumble. I’m hoping it’s enough to give Lopez a fighting chance.

White is like a fresh lieutenant, wet behind the ears; the cowboy was the most dangerous and had the most lethal kit.

When I tested the option I targetted Cowboy. They all ran afterwards so I didn’t end up killing white, but the thing is, I didn’t know I wouldn’t be able to kill them all. The only option was to try to kill them all.

Hey, I love your work Jim, but I just wanted to point out a medical inaccuracy in the doctors opening. Defibrillators aren’t used when a patient flat-lines. They basically just set a normal beating heart back into rhythm. You could get around this by the chest compression bringing back a weak pulse/tachycardiac or bradycardiac pulse and then going for the defibrillator before it finally stopping again. That way you can still have the dramatic tension? Iunno. Sorry if you guys already picked up on this and there’s a specific reason for this choice! Anyway, I love what you’ve done so far and think it’s absolutely brill.

Actually what Lopez says is “white a wall” or White awol. I am assuming White and company injured him while leaving their posts.

Since this is one game I have played many different ways with different mc I have reacted differently with each one. My bad ass with a heart of gold bank robber killed White trying to save Lopez, while my purely intellectual scientist let them go without tipping his hand that he suspected them.

We’ll have to wait for an update to see who handled it better.

Adding to the discussion on starvation from a medical/personal experience perspective. Getting a degree in medicine and recovering anorexic. It can take about 4-5 days of dehydration to kill you. Hospitalisation usually happens on 3-4th day. You can quite easily go a week without eating, although you are a lot more tired + weak. Feinting is a problem after the third day, but that’s usually when the hunger signals stop because you’re body is trying to conserve energy. I’ve gone three weeks without food (drinking plain water) without hospitalisation and death, although being sick and/or at lower weights when this happens /really/ knocks you about.

I can confirm what @Monochrome said. Out in the field I’ve seen guys go a month without food, but not an entire week without water. On the 4th or so day of dehydration people go nuts. I’ve seen people hurting themselves to drink their own blood. On the 4th or so week without eating, the body starts eating itself from inside out, breaking up muscle for nutrients. I don’t think someone would go much far than 5 or so weeks…

@Lithopene

in the next update, I am dropping the early message once fatigue or stress are above 55. Now you will be warned at 65 or more. I want to give people at least one warning before it becomes an issue. If testers still hate it, I’ll drop the messages.

@WolfieGrey

Reduces stress and fatigue.

If I allowed a solo game, I’d never finish.Having NPCs that may or may not be in a group is time-consuming to write. However, there will be portions of solo time.

I’ll check out the text. It is likely in error.

antibiotics are for one week (a course) to treat one person. First aid has 5 uses.

He keeps the bag if you don’t ask for it.

No. NPCs have inventory they manage.

I plan to add more starting gear based on skills.

It is meant to add one pack which has multiple uses.

Bath tub water is fine to drink without tablets. There are other places to use tablets.

@Bruno_Frank_Hill

At a certain point, you lose stats and skill values.

@Shoelip About the Rosie RO it was a great idea, maybe even from you, and it makes the game more interesting to me.

This is EXACTLY the feedback I hope to receive. I’ll add this option.

@Lithophene if you have time/interest, join the closed beta in September. You will learn all about Lopez.

@Monochrome

Apparently I fell victim to a common medical trope :slight_smile: I will fix it.

@StarshinaSokolov I have had periods of severe malnutrition. I started growing crazy from it. Never faced dehydration thankfully.

I’ll certainly try and join if you’ll have me once August/September rolls on in! :grin:[quote=“SeventhJackel, post:3957, topic:2000”]
Actually what Lopez says is “white a wall”… /snip spoiler/

Oh, I know that’s what he says, but I’m looking beyond the fact that one the soldier’s names happens to be White. If anything, I’m thinking more along the line of the not-so-secret secret ending for Zombie Exodus. Hence why I’m saying it’s a white room. :wink:

I see. It’s been a long time since I played the original ZE I had forgotten about that one.

Also @JimD I think I found a small bug after Thelma’s store. I had gotten the $2500 daily limit from the atm before my purchases and everything spent fine, but when I checked my stats when the game ended (right after shopping) I was over $1000 negative cash on hand. That’s about $2500 short of where it should be.

Damn it, still no Madison. Come on! I’m dying here…and probably so is she.

@JimD

At the beginning when you go to fill out the dating profile, it says you sit down to your laptop, even if you don’t have enough points to get one when gathering supplies.

@JimD I think I remember saying that that spoiler would be something that would really interest me at some point. It’s definitely something I’m psyched about regardless.

Well I mean… I can see why you didn’t have the option to try non-lethal force against the soldiers. If you actually succeed (which seems plausible considering you can manage to take them down lethally even bare handed) then you’ve got a hostile prisoner to deal with, which just opens up a whole new list of variables, or forces you to come up with a good way to write them out quickly. Incidentally, I never did try to attack them with pepper spray, is that even an option?

You can attack the soldiers with either pepper spray or a taser, but it leads to the character’s death.

What character? Your character or the character you attack?

It leads to your MC’s death.

Interesting. I attacked them unarmed one time and survived. You’d think a tazer would have a similar result. I wonder if your combat skills weren’t high enough or something. Now that I think about it I think I picked the kill option a few more times than I initially remembered. Guess I’m not as bad of a tester as I thought. XD
