Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven, Part 4 Public Beta - updated 6/25/2025, 890,000+ words

That is what I feared. I wonder if I messed up something myself unknowingly. Like maybe by importing a saved state from the first Zombie Exodus or maybe due to using CoG Save Manager to help me…

So maybe I should delete all Zombie Exodus save data (perhaps both the one stored on my PC and on Choices of Games) but I do not know how to do that.

If the game itself isn’t bugged then I wonder if one of my saves ended up corrupted in some way and is responsible for said error.

After all I checked the integrity of the files so many times after installing and uninstalling the game and the problem still persists.

I’m not even sure if I managed to inform Choice of Games about said error correctly as after the “Sorry, an error occurred. Click Ok to email error data to support” window shows up I get a white screen and no option to do anything more.

So ive bought all ur games but its honestly rly hard when i cant save before the end of a chapter or go bacl considering how long the are its kind of maddening…

There’s a checkpoint system now. You can archive up to 3 save states per playthrough. There are specific checkpoints, but it’s a definite improvement.

Found a totally random grammar issue that has been bothering me. In Sifer’s trunk letter, she wonders whether the zombies will remember human as “an inferior descendant.” Since humans came before they would be antecedents. Sifer was a science student, she would know the difference. Like I said, totally minor.

The public beta has now been updated. There have been some major changes:

  1. Since one of the missions (college campus mission) became so long, I turned it into a complete chapter.
  2. Part 4 is already over 500,000 words.
  3. I will likely be developing this game for another six months before submitting it for publication.
  4. Probably next month, I will wrap up chapter 15, work on the teen-parents storyline and the hacker storyline.
  5. It’s looking like Part 4 will be chapters 13-18.

As always, please provide feedback and constructive criticism. As many of you know, all feedback is reviewed and leads to changes in the game.

I gave it a quick go, and want to play it a bit more before dropping anything substantial but pretty sure in the science building, I opened up a blockaded stairwell and began my “dissent”.

Oh, I suppose one thing worth suggesting. If the player has formed an alliance with aleksy the library guy, there should be a chance to rope him into the overall agreement for the campus. However the campus politics are resolved, it should also be an opportunity to move in the individual stragglers that are presumably also holed up in the nooks and crannies of the campus. There were indicators that such people existed but no real resolution of that point, and resolving the power struggle seems like an easy way to draw those numbers into that survivor group.

Noticed something else. When talking with Rosie, at the end section of chapter 11. If you ask her about her family, she says her father “ran off with a motorcycle woman”.I I’m guessing that Thelma is said motorcycle woman. Is Rosie’s father the giant with the red beard, Brick, who smashed down the museum group/s door?

Also, just noticed the game displays Dante’s picture when arriving in Silverthorne, instead of Keith.

The updated demo includes a moment where the team is highly suspicious of MC’s hallucinations? Or will it be further in the story?

The thing I notice almost all zombie stories miss. All the bugs. Just to keep it mild on that, the flies. How will any hear with so many flies in the ears? Zombies would be aimlessly targeting noise they cant ‘see’. This is just one bug. Mosquitoes would be a nightmare more than zombies.

Kinda glad most bugs get ignored. Bed bugs, fleas, horse flies and others.

Zeta virus would be everywhere without even a zombie there. Cats, dogs, monkey’s, birds (minus buzzards who will be fine). Looking forward to see how State of Decay 3 implements animal zombies.

Dogs and animals are good to follow if unaffected. They know where the dead are. Just follow their path to avoid zombies. Dogs specifically. All dogs I owned were quiet because I am I guess. Never told them not to bark, they just dont. I also pay attention to their needs, thus may not needed to?

When it comes to dogs tempermant of the dog and its breed will play a big role on how much they may bark.

I had multiple types of breeds. Few that would be loud too. When I say I pay attention to them, I do. They walk to door, I take them out immediately. Always walk before and after work. Food and water always full, never do they over eat. Temperament of owner applies and what the owner does helps.

Just got into Lopezs story. Understood why

An error has occured and will not allow me to play.

“Part2Events line 10: invalid return; we’ve already retuned from the last gosub”

Hello, I recently bought the new expanions after not playing for a while. I just got into i think either chapter 4 or 5, just before the big defend the hill scene. Then this keeps appearing and I’m not sure what to do. I’ve done some simple testing like checking the file intergry via steam and such. No dice there, so here I am.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Are you using a playthrough from before you upgraded? That’s my only idea on initial reading of your question. I’ll continue to give it thought, and will get back to you. Unless Jim has an answer for you first. Sorry if this isn’t helpful to you.

I’m so smitten by madison, the only way i’d prolly choose another RO is if you kill her off. You’ve done such a wonderful job making each character unique in their own right.

Very good game I like very much
:smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I’m with you, Robert. 100% team Maddie. She’s so funny (in a dark way), and ruthless. Also she seems to be the team member you work with most (I would like to see more events like the ST raid, where you can choose people to come with, and more options of who to bring.), She’s also the most versatile of the survivors, other than maybe Rachel (the only other RO whose path I have taken). Maddie’s my MC’s ride or die. Unless she’s been unfaithful with Kevin. In that event, I will crush Kevin’s skull with a hammer, and be done with Maddie. Probably try to get with Elsie, the Ute girl, she also seems like my MC’s kind of woman.

Thank you, I will make these changes. It does make sense that he would be at the meeting between Doctus and the Sigmas.

This is an interesting coincidence, but Thelma is not the motorcycle woman. That would definitely be an interesting twist.

I have no idea how that happened, but I will fix it.

There is a part in the new update in the college campus where the hallucinations are addressed by your companions. It’s in the science pavilion when you make it up to the second floor.

I have a few scenes in the original ZE that include bugs. I have found that there are certain parts of realism that people want to ignore. Bugs are one of them. People generally do not want to read about an explosion in the number of insects in the world. Though sometimes they make an interesting description in a specific building or when crawling out of a zombie.

It definitely sounds like a bug like @Geralt described. I would try a different save file or contact support so they can walk you through fixing the app. If there is truly a problem with the code, they will let me know. But that type of issue is usually related to a save file.

Thank you!

Thank you as well!

I’m looking forward to writing more about her relationship with Kevin.

I didn’t realize she would become such a popular character. She hasn’t even been in the official game yet (only in the demo) and people write me to add more content with her.

Elsie is epic level post apocalypse bad ass chick. Even Lopez acknowledges how fine she is. Plus she’s a guide, and seems to have some medical training, and sure isn’t scared of a fight. Honestly boss, she’s awesome. You should for sure use her more.
She even beats out Mel, space cadet, for people I wish I could get in group. Mel just seems so easy. There should really be an option to recruit her after the museum fight. She knows what they were doing was wrong, and is smart enough to know she won’t make it on her own, and only the most heartless MC would want to leave her there. It’s seriously like my only gripe about the game. My heart literally breaks every time I leave that poor girl alone in that busted out museum. Again, especially when she helped us. If it’s an issue with big rewrites of part 3, have the Mambas take her in. Please boss. Save Mel, space cadet.
As far as Kevin goes, I really hope you take into account players relationship level with Maddie, or give some outcome that doesn’t involve cheating. I really like Maddie, and begrudgingly like Kevin. I’d hate for an outcome like that to be set in stone.

Wait hold up we can’t prevent Maddie from cheating on us with KEV!? (haven’t done pt3 with teen yet, that save has been getting dusty :joy:)

“Man, it’s crazy what happened to Kevin. Slipped and fell on that rock 50 times.” Lmfao. No joke Kevin is barking up the wrong tree. My MC is already kinda losing it.
