For me, I like Madison mainly because she is one of the most practical survivors in the group. She is good with a gun, doesn’t foolishly trust strangers immediately (offers to stay behind as a sniper when meeting the Graves,) and is highly intelligent (Figures out the true meaning behind Caesars name, realizes immediately that a Teenager MC that is wearing a combat uniform stole it off a dead body while Brody assumes they joined the ROTC.) She’s also described as attractive and genuinely cares for the MC.
Also, can we talk about how damaging Brody is to the group in general? To me, he’s constantly making inexcusable mistakes that jeopardize everyone around him. For instance, he tells the River Dogs our junkyard location almost immediately after meeting them, he doesn’t bring a gun with him to the trainyard, (like, really Brody? It’s the zombie apocalypse) and he completely ignores the leader MC’s statement that they don’t want to go into the museum with Gilbert and leads the group in anyway. Obviously, this had to be done for plot reasons, but still. It just doesn’t sit right with me. Funny how my favorite character happens to be the sibling of my least favorite.
I’m only interested in female ROs, so that leaves… Jillian, Kelly, Bailey, Gina, Rosie, Rachel, and Madison.
Jillian, Kelly, and Bailey all feel… kinda useless in a way that means that you just don’t actually do much with them. If I choose to take them along with me anywhere, it’s because I want to see their dialogue. It’s never because I think they’re a good choice or because I think they will be helpful. It’s a very metagamey choice to see new dialogue, where the more ‘in-character’ choice might be to leave my loved one safely in the camp while I take people more suited for the job.
Rosie is fine, but I mostly play male characters and she’s a lesbian, so she’s out. And Gina’s a great character and super competent, but she’s aromantic and that isn’t what I am looking for in a romance arc.
That leaves Rachel and Madison. I like both of them as ROs, and for largely the same reason. They contribute to things. Choosing them to do something doesn’t feel like choosing the RO just to see the dialogue, it feels like a valid choice because they’ve proven themselves capable and competent. Part of this might just be the nature of the story. We do a lot of things where the athletic gun girls get to shine, but not a lot of things where Jillian or Kelly are particularly useful.
I simply treat everyone nicely, because hosted game politics encourages it. You simply don’t get rewarded for keeping your finger on the trigger. There is often a narrative, and it often punishes the reader for going against it.
Madison is one of the most lethal and ruthless survivors in our group…so the opposite of the typical spoiled cheerleader princess I thought we were getting saddled with.
I mean she has her bratty moments (she is a teenager after all) but she gets shit done. Her brother on the other hand… he’s good for hunting, but he keeps making stupid and naive choices.
I don’t think I have ever forced anyone in this game to treat everyone nicely. I tried to make it so that you can be ruthless and achieve your goals. If you don’t feel that way, let me know and I see what parts need to fix.
Everyone else, thank you for giving me your opinions on Madison. It really helps.
Guess the best way to put it is that despite her age, Madison is still pretty competent. Usually, you expect the popular teenage rich girl to be a massive third wheel or at least, annoying and absolutely insufferable.
She’s not perfect. She wasn’t taught how to drive, part 4 has her going on a run for what amounts to dress shopping, and can be somewhat of a brat. But it never becomes overbearing or undermine that she is ultimately a good person.
She’s nice to the MC but based off talking to the other members of the group, it seems that she comes off as a brat/bully that makes some snarky/snobby comments towards other members
U have to remember she did come from a rich family so she is probably used to doing what she wants without getting a bad reaction. She’s just nice to Mc since they let her join the group when she had no where to go.
Part 4 has been updated. Please look at the update notes as you begin the game. Please note that the link has changed. Here is the current link.
Next month, I am going to work on revisions to the Wendigo fight and to the Jillian pregnancy storyline. I’m also working on a new trade module, that will allow you to trade between allies. For example, you will be able to visit other safe havens (like the Red Mamba’s amusement park) and trade with them.
If you play as a teenager and pursue her romance then she’ll confess she has had a crush on the mc since the start
Even your nephew comment she has mellwow out a little towards him. Madison is nice deep down.
I think figured out why I couldn’t get the infirmary scene for Jillian’s storyline before.
When everything was switched to Moody, I thought to just skip to chapter 14 rather than replay 13. In doing so, I avoid the flag in chapter 13 that automatically gives you an ultrasound if you have an infirmary. Just something to note for testing purposes.
Well I still need to deal with Kevin if I do that. Also I thought she was already in a relationship before the outbreak so she probably viewed mc as a friend instead of a crush
Nice I wanted a trade system in place to trade with my allies for a while now. Thanks for the update. I just hope Racheal gets better soon after u done everything else
I must admit, I like the second election better than the first. To be more specific, I wish we could influence votes in the first election the same way we did in this one, so I can take votes away from Jamie.
