That order to tell the dog to sit is a high stat check to be fair but even then it struggles to control itself so it’s mostly turned z
This is going to be long, so i will seperate this into multiple parts.
Grammars/minor bugs
I don’t think Peter is supposed to be an airplane.
That sentence doesn’t make much sense
I think that was meant to be “ours”
Heroin.
Payne, not Pain.
It would probably be and, not in.
When you chose the 2nd team member to come with you, the 1st member will said their line again.
Something about this sentence seem wrong, i don’t know for sure about that.
Time to search
In this playthrough i chose that every optionable characters aren’t available/not in the group, and yet in that brief moment Tommy vengeful soul came back to try and kill the Makarov
Personal opinion.
This chapter is quite interesting and fun for the most part, i like that we get to explore new places, people and groups, while at the same time expanding the known characters and groups a bit more, giving them more depth. From the beginning till the end it is packed with content and activities that i personally enjoy a lot to go through.
The conclusion… not so much.
One of my major problem is how easy most of the end fights are. At the start the Payne group literally blitzkreig our camp and kidnap Kevin in the middle of the day without anybody being able to respond in time. And considering our defences could be maxed out and they were still able to do it was quite impressive. Yet when we get to the fight at the end they are struggling quite bad and we can literally decide their fate in 1 choice. It start and end way too quick.
The same problem is also with the fight against the wendigo., but not only is it fast to beat that thing(fast as in killing it in 1/2 choices) but also surprsingly easy. In one of my worst attempt i have a bad team which includes Jaime, Fred and Reilly with my MC shooting at it before it got to the makarov. It went down in 1 hail of bullets like instantly.
And if you engage with it before that thing “officially” attack, it’s hp would be negative.
I didn’t see it do any stalking or hunting much, only seeing it lurk around once or twice before just shrieking and stand around for my group to shoot at. I just can’t feel thatThe wendigo is a threat in anyway, it is literally just a punching bag for us to shoot at. It only “look” intimidating, but it doesn’t act dangerous. That thing doesn’t live up it’s reputation of being smart, tough and presistent in anyway, and i felt letdown for such an easy fight.
Overall, what i wanna said is that the general story is great, but the problems just resolve way too soon, maybe it should be a tad bit longer, with a few more choices in between to make it seems more impactful than “1 choice determine everything.”
Miscellanious stuff
I don’t know if what Leo said are grammar error, or if this is intentional due to his accent or not, so imma place it here.
Also in this playthrough I had Leo restrained and kept him that way, but somehow he still managed to escape, again i don’t know if this is a bug or intentional.
Why are these items(and many more but my screenshot didn’t covered them all)
Locked behind the “Books, magazine and special items”? Behind that choice is a lot of useful items, but we are only allowed to take one before it boot us back to the main scavenging screen
Why are those items specifically being behind that choice? And was it intentional that you can only choose 1 item in that specific choice category?
About the thing with the training of the dog and nephew will you add it on the next update or on this one and also will you add one about the camps progress like what things we build and the defenses?
There are a few ways I can handle this. For example, if your scientist or doctor creates a vaccine, the sequel may involve your MC traveling with the vaccine to distribute it. Or the virus may adapt, requiring future work. There are other ways I explore this, but I will need to have some plausible way to bridge the gap between ZE, ZE:SH, and the new game for a variety of endings.
I pay attention to all feedback
If you have a specific line you want to see, I’m open to putting it into the game.
Thank you for all of your feedback.
This is where feedback, like yours comes, in. It’s tough to balance the fights because of all the variables. It looks like fighting the Wendigo and the Paynes is too easy at the moment. I can tweak the skill checks in the next version to see if we get closer to challenging encounters.
Kevin has to be taken, but I do want some impact to having better defenses. For example, one of the Payne gang may be killed in the initial attack on the junkyard.
I’m testing a new way to handle huge blocks of items to scavenge. I want to break them into categories, but I forgot to include a piece of code that allows you to take multiple items from the same category.
I was more just expecting you to have August say “Alaska” instead of having the MC correct him with what I’d said…
Well, you’re a writer, so I went with it.
Just looking through the code to give August a weapon and I noticed this:
"Hey, I see you're back. Anything wrong with your gear?" she asks.
*if quartermaster = "Kelly"
I think these two lines should be the other way around.
Also, I’m still confused about August’s fighting ability… In the ranged fight (if he has a ranged weapon), the text describes him as being a reasonably good shot, but there’s a modifier of -5 and then his contribution is quartered on top of that. If he chooses his own weapon (a bow) this means he’ll end up at -4 combined, and would need the best guns in the game to even out to 0. That said, it looks like this is ignored completely, as temp_offence
is reset a few lines later, I think without ever being checked.
In the melee section, August’s clearly struggling more, and it makes more sense that there’ll be a penalty. Also, there’s only text here for if he has a melee weapon. If he replaced his knife with a gun or bow, the text just cuts off at “The zombie lurches and reaches for the fallen teen, and August swings the”, although now I’m wondering why he can’t just have his knife and also whatever ranged weapon he was allowed to bring; it looks like everybody else gets to have a melee weapon and a ranged weapon.
can anyone tell me what are the two large branches? cause I keep getting the same.
I feel like no matter how high my driving skill is and no matter what vehicle I choose, that I will keep crashing if I go off-road. Maybe it’s a bug?
Is there supposed to be no save slots now or is it just my phone?
Ah Nvm, I see you have to register first.
Could you bring back the save slots? It makes things much easier to the readers.
you can save if you log in
Love it! Curious as to why there’s so many parts and individual games, do you plan on having a set number? Bought the parts that are available and hadn’t realised it was unfinished. Do really love the different branches and customisation options even if I have yet to do any challenge outside of combined pet owner and nephew
Zombie Exodus was five parts, though not nearly as long or involved. Part 3 of SH may very well be as long as the entirety of ZE. I seem to recall seeing Jim say that Safe Haven has expanded from its original concept so it’s going to be (and may already be) longer than intended.
Which is A-Ok with me save for the waiting, but that’s because I’m impatient and greedy. As much as I’m in a rush to play the whole thing, I’m in no rush for him to finish.
Hello and thanks for writing this great game, I wanted to ask, will part 4 be the last one or will there be more? thanks for reading
I have already agreed to do five parts. It’s possible there will be more, but five seems like a good amount of story to reach a conclusion.
I have also thought about a sequel to the game that brings characters from across the ZE Universe into one game.
That sounds awesome! Would it be importing save data from both games?
It’s possible. There are some technical difficulties, which I’m sure you could imagine. I have a few ideas on how I could approach a character transferring. I will need to talk to Jason about it, but this is years away. By then, I may have moved on from ZE or joined the circus or something.
Yeah, my initial thought was pretty much “That sounds like an absolute coding nightmare.” Though if anyone could manage it, it would be you.
Although I kind of want you to join the circus, too.
What poor Jim will discover is that programming this beast of a game is the circus! He’s already there!
And we are all very appreciative of it.
