I’ll go ahead and promote my new, second WIP in this thread. I just created a separate topic for it so I won’t talk about it any further on this post, but I’m hoping this might help people who like my writing find my other project as well.
It’s called Press Play, and you can find its forum post here. It’s a music/band IF in which you play as a famous but elusive pop-rock vocalist. There’s no horror in that one (big step for me haha) but I felt very inspired when I got the idea and simply couldn’t resist.
That’s all, I’ll go back to working on Such Happy Campers now

I also read your comment where you stated Javi to be ADHD and that’s what he came off as to me as well. I was a little bit thrown off the scent, so to speak, when the(at least IMHO) clearly coded to be on the autism spectrum Flo, gave him some advice on how to handle his challenges. But then again, from what I’ve heard, the majority of people on the autism spectrum or at least those of us diagnosed with AS when that was still a partly separate diagnosis, are also diagnosed with ADHD(though I’m only formally diagnosed with AS myself, it certainly wouldn’t surprise my if I also have undiagnosed ADHD). So for either of those characters to have both ADHD and be on the autism spectrum would certainly not be anything unusual and in such a situation other people who’ve had a hard time fitting in, would likely prove a better support than people who’v never or hardly ever have been in that particular situation would.
I’m also thinking about another scen/passagee where it would have been nice to get one more dialogue option… I’m talking about the scene where the MC, Basil and some other people at the camp are talking about/discussing the (possible) existence of the supernatural/paranormal. One of the people at the camp bring up James Randi’s challenge as an argument against the existence of the paranormal/supernatural. I don’t want to make this into a big discussion, but from what I’ve read that challenge and how it’s worked in practice, haven’t been without controversy. There have been criticisms both about him being overly strict about what is to be considered good enoguh to pass his challenge and, AFAICR, lack of transparency about his criteria for passing the challenge, outside, I guess of him being personally convinced. AFAIK he hasn’t really got a scientific background either and is certainly not a practicing scientist. Peoplw will of course disagree about the challenge and the criticisms of the challenge, but the point is that the challenge is not wholly uncontroversial. So it would be nice to have a dialogue option where the MC dismisses that particular argument with for instance something along the lines of not trusting the challenge a self-proclaimed sceptic without a scientific background and who is certainly not a practicising scientist to count as an argument against the existence of the paranormal/supernatural.

Quick update: Chapter 6 is currently at 23.000 words. There’s a pretty big horror scene happening at the end that’s already fully written buuut I decided to move that part from the “center” of the chapter to the end, basically adding in a whole other day at the camp before it happens. Trust me, I’d be robbing y’all of some cute stuff otherwise

I just posted about this on tumblr, but I figure I should say sth on the forum as well. This is to inform you guys that I will drop SHC for the time being. I don’t know if I’ll pick it up again anytime soon; right now it seems unlikely. The reason is that another author (whom I do genuinely admire and look up to) has contacted me privately implying plagiarism. They were polite about it, so no hate there or anything.
Any resemblance between SHC and any other projects is unintentional, but I think knowing that Such Happy Campers is being perceived that way (and by an author whose IF I really like, no less), has and will continue to taint my own perception of it.
I just can’t imagine going on with the story right now. I know that it might be early to make such a decision, especially since that just happened and I’m still kind of in shock about it, but continuing with the IF after this is kind of unthinkable to me. Plus, I don’t want to invite drama or beef with anybody, so this is also a preventative measure. I’m admittedly fragile about my writing. Right now, I really want to forget Such Happy Campers ever existed.
To those who liked this project, I’m sorry <3 I really am. I’ll still be working on my other project, so no worries there, and I hope you guys will understand.

Sorry to hear this happened to you, its such a shame that your IF wont continue it was pretty unique among IFs I have read.
Out of curiosity have you compared your work to the claimed work that you’re said to have plagiarized? I mean sometimes people think using the same setting aka a camp is copying and such.

I’m a fan of the IF in question actually, and I was subscribed to their Patreon which basically caused the accusation. I don’t see an overarching similarity as the setting is quite different, but there are indeed shared horror tropes. I didn’t consider any of that to be an issue bc tropes such as nightmares exist for a reason. So yeah I can see it if I squint bc I’m not delusional but I never thought of the two as overly alike. This came as a considerable shock.
I don’t wanna go into it further bc I don’t wanna conjure up drama. I just wanna forget about the whole thing honestly

Thats so very sad to hear, and so very unfortunate that people think that something is copied just because of tropes or settings.

I agree but I wanna stress that they didn’t ask me to take down the IF, that’s my own decision (a me-problem). They merely messaged me explaining why they had blocked me from Patreon. I don’t wanna be unfair to them or get carried away by my own emotion and I don’t wanna go into it any further. Like I said, this is partly preventative because I don’t want any more drama.
