I wonder where they learned it from, or why they’re they only ones we see with knowledge about it. I think that based on some Patreon articles that the Tang guy who first attacked the dragons had an idea of what was going on, but the implications are vague enough that he might have been referring to something else.
It would help explain why despite being outnumbered two to one they haven’t been wiped out during/after the civil war, besides the sheer distance involved that originally helped boil over their rebellion.
Could have been the reason they rebelled in the first place if they rebelled during tang Weis time. Or it might have to do with the lady butterfly that is with our granddad.
They didn’t rebel during Tang Wei’s time. The story in the library (assuming, of course, that it is completely accurate and not subject to bias) is as follows:
East has always been rowdy. Before Tang Wei, it was a land of the freest spirits. Unable to survive through plowing of the land their climate far too harsh they resorted to trading and diplomacy. Eastmen were the ones who invented money and the concept of selling goods for, otherwise, useless gold. They founded dozens of city-states that competed with each other, their rivalry sparking the fire of progress. Tang Wei put an end to their independence. He destroyed their cities and took away their liberty but he could not crush their desire for freedom, that flowed in their veins the same way Divine Blood flowed in his. After Tang Wei mysteriously disappeared, the following monarchs were forced to make concessions in order to keep the East in check. A long distance from the capital, separated from the mainland by a turbulent sea, the East year after year gained more and more autonomy until the tipping point was reached
In 2854 ME of Martial Era a new Celestial Emperor was crowned in Mayong, a celebratory event throughout the whole realm. The Tangs as usual hosted a tourney to honor their supreme ancestor. Granted a ceremonial audience with the emperor, the champion of then, Song Jiu, struck the newly appointed ruler with ruthless abandon. He, a peak Shangtian, an expert almost without match, struck a sixteen-year-old child without holding back. The ill-fated emperor died instantly, not giving his cohort of guards even a chance to react.
The fact they didn’t rebel during Tang Wei’s reign doesn’t exclude the possibility their rebellion was sparked by discovering his true nature (and the way/reasons he shaped their world the way he did) after the left.
Although i doubt it, because if that was the case, they probably wouldn’t have kept this knowledge a secret, but spread it high and low to sway other clans into abandoning Tangs, too.
Another possibility is that due to our grandfather, Zhong Delun, possess the “precognition” ability that allows him to look into the future (we got this from him too and he’s way better than us), he might have seen terrible things and wanted to change course of history/future to ensure our survival alongside his.
Am I the only one thinking that the Rogues’ intentions towards MC are a bit sus? Like… MC’s mother ran away from home and didn’t bother to come back for several years before MC’s birth, for all the Rogues claim they’re more advanced than the “archaic” Celestial Empire.
Plus, Xiwen says the Zhong Clan has four branches with plenty of members, of which the most important are MC’s grandfather, aunt and cousins (who should be the legal heirs of the clan on account of, y’know, actually living among the Rogues instead of the Empire-raised child of the former clan heiress, I think). Did Wu Chao and Zhong Zhi’s actions not imply they want nothing to do with the Rogues after all these years?
Especially odd considering that Zhong Zhi could’ve tried to convince Wu Chao to try and restart the Wu clan with the rebels instead. It would be extremely hard, considering the other three clans already claimed their territory and the Wu s are still somewhat established, but looking at the map the current situation of the Wu clan really isn’t much better.
Maybe the “Wu Chao Pow Pow” was so good she literally forgot about her homeland :v
On a more serious note, I think you’re on to something about the rebels being not much better than the Celestial Empire. A sample size of six isn’t much to go off on, but after the auction when you go to the fight Tang Ruo invites you on the Yong guy is pretty arrogant, and so is the guy who gets his neck slit albeit to a smaller degree. The only one who seems alright is the lady we chase. If you reveal your true self to Tang Ruo and you don’t have a high enough rel with them, they out you to their minder whose words imply that your father was hiding your mother. His reaction was more along the line of “those motherfucking fuckwads of the fucking Wu clan no wonder we couldn’t find her” and not “oh, so that’s where she was hiding”. OTOH he might have been jumping to conclusions. It’s also odd that he refers to her as “that runaway bitch” since she ran away from the Zhongs, not the Tangs(unless the Zhongs are considered runaways for defecting?)
idk if they have bad intentions for mc tbh didn’t TW say mc grandfather gave up his lifespan to protect us from him using us? is he not the one who put the shield over mc so tw couldn’t speak to us like the others? since they know so much guessing they know mcs real potential and want to use them for the inevitable war that’s why it has to be mc.
I don’t doubt Zhong Delun loves MC, just noticed that according to Xiwen he’s a man who would put his “mission” above anything else even if it pained him. It’s just… Xiwen is clearly hiding more details about their plans for MC— if the perception check after you ask about them is anything to go by.
Until Wu Chao sheds light on why he turned them away in the past, it’s difficult to not consider their desire to have MC spearheading their new rebellion suspicious.
There may be more to why Wu Chao turn them away but it simply could because he don’t want the others clans (especially the Tang clan) to find out that he have rouges clan member in his territory and potentially endanger himself, his clan or MC, since the moment it get find out about who we are related to, then the entire Wu clan will likely be destroyed.
