Sleeping with Penny in chapter one as a woman is incredibly awkward. Mind you, I’m a trans femme nonbinary person and was assigned male at birth, but since I’m not quite sure how the gender change thing works just yet, I just picked being a woman from the start. Despite that, this is what I encounter when sleeping with Penny despite that fact x3
“By the light of the candle flame, you ride her, grunting and panting as you thrust in and out, filling her, even as the sweat beads on your forehead and her fingers dig into the bed’s frame. Her gasps become louder, more rapturous as your thrusts continue, until, finally, in a jagged, sharp, flashing moment of euphoria, you feel your hot seed fire deep into her.”
Imagine my surprise when that happened, when picking the female human past x3

I cant actually break away from that line. Are undead pets in the first one then?

A big update to Chapter 1 (now available on Dashingdon) sees hotfixes for sleeping with Penny if you’re a woman (now you don’t magically grow a penis) and an array of bugs and typos quashed, including, fingers crossed, all gendered terms now right.
Perhaps the biggest single addition has been to the titles (there are now more to choose from for each gender) and the choice, if you are non-binary, of what type of clothes you’d like to wear. The mirror dream option, which allows you to experiment with another gender, has now had a huge update. You can now choose to become non-binary through the dream (and it will update the game accordingly, so you become recognized as nb as a vampire even if you were male/female at the start), and for existing nb players they can choose to reaffirm their style of dress.
This is the first of three dream sequences; completing all three in the right way opens up the path to changing gender, even if Fred hates you. (Otherwise you need a positive relationship with Fred).
In the meantime, I’ve been working on C2. The interlude is complete, which involves a series of choices to establish what you got up to in the 38 years between the chapters. This is only brief, but can give you some serious boosts. It also affects the game state that you begin in C4, which will result in one of four different outcomes pretty much immediately, all with long-term ramifications.
And then you get to go to France and do some romancin’.

Can you add save system?
Honestly? I have absolutely no idea how. That’s the kind of stuff I lean on the experts at Choice of Games for, and as this is really just a sample (it’s not even a demo!) I’m not sure that’s something I want to get coding on as it might upset the whole thing. I just don’t know how that works.

Well, I enjoyed 1st chapter quite much! My only real nitpick is that when we meet Eoin our character calls them boy, despite possibly being of the same age (at least visibly). It would also be nice to see some sort of “Epilogue” if that make sense. Have our character briefly interact with Virgina if you choose to be a spy by writing latters or see how our actions affected the world, but I guess this is something for later chapters so feel free to ignore this bit. Regardless, wishing you luck and will be making sure to keep up with this project regardless!

I think it’s basically one line of code in the end of the startup file, at least last time I checked. Saves would be nice but if you feel like it might break something then I don’t think it’s a big deal - the demo is not super long with multiple game over traps, So replaying shouldn’t be a much of a problem. Maybe do a vote or something, dunno
There is an interlude between the chapters (which I could add to Dashindon, but I’ve currently been coding it for C2) where you write letters.
I’ll get that typo fixed! And if you choose to spy on Eoin for Virginia it has pretty big consequences…

In a huge, sweeping change, I’ve just realized the final RO is not a vampire. Romana - name is now very much a placeholder - was originally going to be Saskia’s sister from Vampire’s Kiss. However, I just realized the court of France is not a vampiric court - there’s all kinds of stuff going on, tied in with the antagonist of C2. That means Romana is no longer a vampire. Sure, she will still be Rachel Weisz from The Mummy in terms of inspiration, but the reason for her longevity is not vampire-related.
As to what it might be, I haven’t decided. I’ve put a poll for paid patreons to have influence on the decision, so it might be a goblin-style romance, an elf-style romance, an immortal human, a giantess or mythical creature, or even a water-spirit. So we’ll see. Either way, Romana is no longer a vampire. Pretty big change!

Haven’t tried the demo yet but it’s looking right up my alley.
So instead of Weisz from the Mummy she could be Weisz as the Mummy. That actually would be pretty cool. Napoleon era France was pretty enamored with Egypt. Coming back with Napoleon after his time there would make a pretty easy connection. Give her a few years to settle in before we show up too. I’m legit in love with this idea now.

Without giving too much away, Egyptology does play a part in chapter 2. Our pivotal moment in history is also a genuine event that happened.
Spoilers for history nerds curious…
It surrounds Marshal Berthier, and his very suspicious “falling out of a window” just before the Waterloo campaign. Had he been with Napoleon, d’Erlon’s corps would not have been ineffective at Ligny and Quatre Bras, and that was probably the most realistic scenario for a Napoleon win.

Ok, did a read thru and yeah. This is totally my alley.
Seeing that Virginia Dare wasn’t just a homage but actually the Virginia Dare from Roanoke was perfection. Maybe revealed a little earlier than expected, but I appreciate it when these stories are so lovingly researched.

I didn’t get a pic of it but when talking to Eoin perhaps about the otter, who I named Beaver of course, or perhaps just before he referred to me as Mr. . I assume my name should be between those dots.
Here Virginia seems to approve of me leaving the widow alive but then foresees it leading to ash and ill-maners. Seems a bit off.
As far as I know Lazare should be unharmed. We never fought the widow and he didn’t follow me to Virginia’s boat. Unless this is in reference to when I shot him but he seemed pretty fine after that.

Well, the prologue to Chapter 2 is finished! This is, unto itself, the size of a normal chapter of *Vampire’s Kiss (*about 15,000 words), and deals with your move from New York to France.
Chapter 2 is still about defining your character and how they respond to things, so while there are tests, the majority of choices are about putting in your background. The final romantic options are introduced in this chapter (and expanded on during Chapter 3), although for those who formed a connection with Lazare in C1, there’s plenty of time for romance. You can also, quite literally, run off to play with the fairies, too. Romance becomes more sizeable as the game grows.
New mechanics introduced in C2 are focused on the management portion of becoming a vampire. While you don’t get the ful reins until C3, we start bringing in how you manage your business, and the impact of world events on your empire. This is part of the interesting nature of the game: if you want to maximise profit, you could try for a world state where everyone’s basically in nuclear war hell by 2024, and you’ve been quietly arms trading for the better part of 200 years. Or you can go for peace, and become a construction magnate. There’s also the introduction to some of the wider mythos of the game.
The one outstanding issue? The RO formerly known as Romana. She is, thanks to the poll, going to be a creature of the Fae - the issue is what creature of the Fae, and also what her name is!
Right now, though, we’re 15k into C2, and the court of King Hellequin of the Wild Hunt is about to welcome you.

Animal name time! If you encountered a short, fat little pug dog that had drunk from the wrong spring and gained the secrets of immortality, what would you call it?

I was very torn between Bon Bon and Whimsy (as in whimsical?) but picked Bon Bon in the end because I once had a potted ficus I named something similar.
Slightly surprised that not more people picked Whimsy, it sounds cute as well.
Though, that might also be the name of someone famous I’m forgetting.

I love that these are based on documented dog names. There’s something delightful about knowing what people named their pets centuries ago!
