[WIP] Chains of Destiny: Book One (~370k words) - Last update: 2025/02/12

Wow, I’m glad you took the time to write this down. As I said, a rewrite is already planned, and your input got me genuinely excited about tweaking some of the things based on your suggestions, so thank you for that. Your ideas are gold, seriously—I’m kind of kicking myself for not thinking of them sooner!

While I’m not the best writer, I have played through a bunch of the games on this site and also do some DMing on the side, so I’ve picked up a few tricks here and there. Glad to know my advice was helpful! Looking forward to the next update XD

After reading the demo, I sure hope that Juna isn’t dead but passed out unconscious… but other then that, it was a good read!! :sob: :sob:

She’s got her skull caved in. I’m pretty sure she’s dead, unfortunately.

I would spoil this, but yeah, I was really starting to like her…

Hey everyone!

I hope you’re all having a great day! I wanted to let you know that I’ve updated the game today, although I have to admit I’m not entirely satisfied with how it turned out (there is one part in particular that is really bugging me since it feels like I just gloss over it, and I plan to expand that part in the upcoming rewrite).

Nonetheless, here’s what the update includes:

  • The second and final part of Chapter 1, with an additional 32k words.
  • I’ve made changes to the stat page to make it more visually appealing and organized for a better experience.
  • Added character info pages for most characters currently in the story. Some are still in the works, but I’ll be adding them in the coming days—I didn’t want to delay the update just because of this.

I’ve made the decision to postpone the addition of parade events. I plan to rewrite certain portions of Chapter 1 after releasing Chapter 2, and the parade events will be integrated with the rewrite.

I made some minor coding changes in part 1, so I’m not sure if the new update messes up your saves.

On a side note, I now have a Tumblr! Feel free to check it out if you’re interested: https://chains-of-destiny.tumblr.com

That’s all for now. Merry Christmas to those who celebrate, and if you don’t, then have a fantastic December!

In Junas description it says she’s 21 but it also says she enrolled in the army at 18 and served for 6 years before serving MCs family which should put her at 24

Thanks for pointing that out, it seems I haven’t changed those numbers (and the numbers for Juna’s whole squad) when I adjusted the timeline. It will be fixed shortly.

Will MC be an adult in the next chapter?

Well… there will be a 3 year timeskip after Chapter 1, and Chapter 2 will kick off with the MC’s birthday. In the story’s world, that marks the moment when the MC is officially considered an adult.

I love this kind of noble story.

Hey, thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed the update!

I just checked the code, and it seems you encountered an infinite loop, but it should be fixed now.

I’m happy you had fun with the update! And don’t worry, Nemio and Leona will have plenty of screen time in the future.

This is so well written , good job so far with the story I really enjoyed it :+1:
I always play “good guy” type of MC, But…

…after witnessing that “tragedy” happened to Juna… I’m about to pull “I AM VENGEANCE, I AM THE NIGHT, I AM BATMAN” on Eric… :joy::rofl:

And I hope we get that scene soon in the story

PS : Thanks for giving me The Kingdoms of Ruin-type of PTSD

Holy crap this is well written! Just finished the demo and I am emotionally devastated, but in a good(?) way. I’m also definitely feeling that horrible void that comes from finishing something really good, so I can’t wait for the next update!

I felt like the number of options given for dealing with our grief was very satisfying too, letting us react and cope (or not cope) however we want. The only time I found myself wanting an option that wasn’t there was when confronting Leona. I like self tormenting characters so I wish there was an option to tell her its my fault so she should be mad at me instead. The options given weren’t bad though, so that is more of a personal preference thing.

Anyway, keep up the great work!

Hey, thank you so much for the kind words! I usually like to play the classical self-sacrificing hero in IFs, which, more often than not, ends with them getting burned at a stake (damn you, Mage Reborn!). By the way, I’ve only seen some shorts of the show on YouTube, but I think I know the scene you’re referring to. So, sorry about that!

Thank you for trying out the demo! Your reaction totally made my day, and I’m happy that it had such an impact on you—this is the kind of response every writer hopes for (or at least I do )!

While making this, it was crucial to me that players could navigate those emotions in a way that felt true to their character, so I really appreciate your feedback. I’ll definitely make sure to include an option like the one you suggested in the next update (and btw if you have any more suggestions, don’t hesitate to share them. I’m always eager to make the game better and ensure it satisfies as many people as possible).

Thank you so much! And don’t worry, what might have been uncertain a couple of months ago is crystal clear now—I’m fully committed, and stopping is off the table.

That’s alright fam! I really really love the direction of the story you’ve written so far, and tbh I think I needed that kind of “spark” from the story so my “good guy” MC can finally SNAPPED and thus I can go Anti-Hero route (which is my favorite character type) if you let us going there. So basically I’ll always be “stereotypical hero” in almost every fiction existed but I also might go John Wick Mode if I have to, either because of the situation or because the “chains of destiny” themselves made me do it :rofl::rofl::joy::joy::joy:

I also like the Mage Reborn, the story from the Book One is really depressing… goddamnit :joy: our MC can’t catch a break but that’s what makes it interesting, still waiting for Book Two and I hope the author can connect all the element from the Book One to Two really well :grin:

Yeah that YouTube shorts video literally broke so many people who haven’t watch the anime or read the manga :joy: but some people also interested with the story as well because of it, mainly about the MC’s revenge arc. Oh well. :joy::joy:

Anyway I’ll be waiting the scene where our MC somehow on their way to “avenge” Juna so I can listen to “Mary On A Cross” song while slaughtering all the people responsible/involved :smiley::smiley: (I hope you can give us the coice to do that pleaseee :joy:)
