Gotta use the barrels. Blow up the tavern. Idk if you gotta have kosuke throw the barrel as well but I did.

You need 1 Alchemy to make the explosive barrels, or if you’re feeling particularly devious, I’m pretty sure you can use the Demonic Path Manual to sacrifice the villagers and get the Fire Element from there

No, blowing the tavern up is enough in itself. I had Kosuke shoot the dude with his crossbow(s) instead.

@cultivator-anon I haven’t gotten far in the new demo yet because I was doing other stuffs. But I remember that in the Midorikatai style, one of the abilities it mentioned was shapeshifting into animals. (Or at least something about changing the body?) Will that have a racial effect depending on which Yokai animal type you are? And if so, would you be able to get special transformation based on animal type? Like Reptile = Dragons, Wolves = Fenrir, Feline = Byakko, Bovine = Minotaur, Kitsune = Kyuubi and Monkey = Monkey King or Oozaru (Great Ape Saiyan)? Or would some of the Yokai species already get access to similar forms without needing Midorikatai and all that style does is maybe gives you access to it earlier/halfway in the story?

Could you immediately get an advanced fire element by doing both then?

No, because exploding the tavern is actually the only way you get the fire element to trigger. Sacrificing the bandits only gives +1 to either health or chi pool (and considerable amount of taint)

You only get single rank up to either your style or element (if you have two, you can choose which), at the end of chapter 5.

I see, thanks for the info. Do you by chance also know how to get the bird pet? I thought it required the trapper background, but I’m not seeing any way to get it still.

You get the egg automatically as a gift from your father early in chapter 2, if you have trapper background. You can then keep it (and get the pet) or sell it.

Oh, ok. I thought I was just an idiot and was missing some obvious choice after background selection lol.

That’s cool but i was specifically talking about people with monkey yokai mc’s also it was a joke.

How do i get the darkness element?

It’s an option you’ll get in boss fight in Chapter 5. Or you can pick it as the primary element if you take a trip in Chapter 3 to the shrine where you can learn element control in the first place.

(the secondary elements you can acquire are: fire in chapter 2, storm in chapter 3, wind, earth, storm or ice in chapter 4, and darkness in chapter 5)

edit: scratch the fire, it’ll go in your primary slot if am not mistaken. then whatever you pick in chapter 3 shrine would be the second element

Would there be a perk for never choosing an element? Like aligning with chi itself instead of elements?

We can get only 2 elements?

2 elements and the combat style. The game drops some subtle hints that 2 elements aren’t necessarily hard limit in the settings, but only the author knows if there will be any actual exception(s).

A propos of styles, maybe something to consider: i know that Kurokonton style currently “synchronizes” with Merchant background due to rather tenuous connection drawn between these two, but wouldn’t it make sense if it could also, alternatively, synchronize with Herbalist background? Given how the poisons also play significant role in this style, to the point one of the Techniques you acquire with the style both grant you poison recipe and lowers amount of components needed for making elixirs and stuff.

I tried to be cruel to her but I can’t when Tian Fang started crying I just wanted to give her a hug and tell her it’s okay (I’m sorry Tian Fang but I can’t give you your humiliation that you want so much)

Well, in my mind, Kurokonton also works well with the Blacksmith background due to the nature of disposable throwing weapons. I would even take it a step further and say having a variety of weapons on your person to suit your need is perfectly in line with what an assassin should have.

If you’re wondering about how one would even carry those on their person, fuuinjutsu is the simple answer. Being able to create and maintain your weapons, among other stuff I probably did not even think of, is very handy for what I’ve imagined my character to be. Just because your application of chi is not centered around weapons, aka Akakiru, doesn’t mean you won’t have an intimate use for weaponry.

I don’t even remember what it says about the Merchant synchronisation but regardless, I don’t feel pressured to havr my character synchronise. One of the rare times I give in to role-playing a bit instead of min-maxing.

I’m scared to ask…and simultaneously morbidly curious about what’s that all about. Speaking of which, does Tian Fang not show up at all in chapter 5 if you didn’t choose the Midorikatai style or something?
