Element-related moves are for the most part just extra flavor options. You’ll be fine with just the style moves and physical abilities.
My MC doesn’t have Storm element (she picked up Wind and then Darkness at the very end of it) and still went through entire game without taking any damage. The AP cap might result in actually receiving a hit or two, but probably no more than that.

IDK about that, Storm element comes up A LOT. Both as flavor and making a lot of rolls way easier, especially any soul-related attacks or defenses.
And don’t’ forget the passive Aura increases from the element-related techniques.

Try having Insight level 2 during the first Taio mission, Kousouke will gain an aura and that will trigger a romance scene.

IIRC they don’t even need aura for that. Kosuke being horny isn’t related to their martial prowess.

I think it’s the same way – it takes place when you pick Get some sleep. [Ends Preparations] after the scene at the farm. It simply doesn’t hinge on Kosuke getting their aura, they’ll make the move no matter what, if the romance didn’t trigger already:
*if ((bffheshe != heshe) and (bffromance = 0))
After everything you close the farmhouse's shutters and lay on the tatami mat to get some rest before the mission. Rest that is immediately interrupted when you hear floorboards creaking under Kosuke as ${bffheshe} lays down next to you.
