Then probably should been Lt.
Can someone do a RO guide? I flirted with Castle, but somehow was locked out of romantic options during talk with her in the end. Disabling affection hints was a bad idea, I think
But that’s the only gripe I have, otherwise non-demo past was a blast. It was like watching a movie, but in your brain.
Interesting, how many parallels with Warhammer 40K are in setting. Like some people say “Event Horizon” could be a prequel to 40K but couple tens of milleniums before, that goes even more for Whiskey-Four.
upd: some good soul made a great guide on steam Steam Community :: Guide :: Whiskey-Four Achievement Guide
Is the scene that was in the demo where you fight off Uvarov agents in your apartment (iirc you can even throw one out the window)not present in the release version? Or are there special conditions needed to trigger it?
Edit: Had to figure out how to spoiler stuff
Castle was originally supposed to be an RO, but now he’s just a fling. Actually, all the “ROs” are flings except Uly, I think. That’s the downside of the game only being a few days, we can’t actually progress the relationships as much as other games
Well, the MC can have relationship with ROs in the epilogue, so they’re potentially more than just flings. The “flings” have actually more content in the game itself than Uly, because they get to have sex with the MC while Uly can at best get couple kisses ;v
Really a great game. Funnily enough this game reminded me the most of a video game, esp compared to other games here. The genre? FPS or TPS lol. Reminded me most of a game like Fear + Mass Effect combined. Just killing wave after wave of enemies lol. I loved the Lovecraftian elements. I got the ending with the old flame where we are on the run. I was kind of surprised I couldn’t get a pardon for her considering we saved so many people. Especially since her initial terrorism seemed like it was to stop these psycho cultists. But reading spoilers it looks like I could have gotten a happier ending w/ her if I played my cards a bit better.
Yeah, it got scrapped, mainly because it didn’t make much sense for the MC to leave their battery behind when heading out to open up access to the comms network with the knowledge that they might not come back
Oh my goddddd its released!? (ʘᗩʘ’)
Congratulations (> ਊ <)
Darn, almost got the perfect run… but I used the grenade too early, on the elevator. What confused me is that, when I reloaded the checkpoint before the epilogue, the grenade disappeared from my inventory somehow, so that might be a bug.
Ah, well, time to run through this awesome game again…
I got the ending I wanted. Saved the galaxy. Sent the anomaly away for now and even got together with my man Ulysses. Happy end.
Yep, mine as well! We sitting on that planet with each of our own Uly’s (Ulyssa). Waiting to shoot someone that never will come for us since we are heroines!
I enjoyed it but my heart was full of adrenalin the whole journey. Didn’t wanna fuck up anything and I didn’t. I was just too good at my job.
I’m not surprised. Get to be a slaughter hero! Murderhoboing a company with a license to murderhobo them.
I wonder how ITFO2 will turn out.
Even killed all those rich fucks invited to the Uvarov party I didn’t give two fucks. Open season!
Got a perfect run and a happy ending on my first playthrough. Feels good man.
The deviations from the demo caught me off guard though.
Hi !
I’m note used to post my feelings about an COG or HG, and english is not my main language so please, bear with any stupid error i make.
I will just add my part to the thread : Whiskey-Four was AWESOME !!
A true fast-pace scifi action story ! I fell hint of cyberpunk and a great dose of inspiration from Altered carbon books, but it’s its own original story and univers.
I was left as breathless as my MC. You can clearly feel the countless difficulties, the superhuman efforts made by the characters. The pacing is extremely well managed, everything flows smoothly, and the rare moments of respite are well integrated without lowering the constant tension. The supporting characters are truly substantial, quickly endearing, and more useful than mere token NPCs. It doesn’t feel like pieces of the story are sacrificed when choosing to connect with them. The dialogues are lively and fun, and the ability to choose the type of response for your character, similar to The Golden Rose, allows for a much better embodiment of the protagonist.
One can criticize the unconventional handling of ‘stats’ for an Interactive Fiction game, but everything remains very organic, strategic, and allows for a break from the classic ‘regardless of the context, I just try to guess the choices that match my main stat.’ While there may be times when it feels a bit railroaded, the breakneck pace makes it more of a true roller coaster of action and emotion rather than a boring, self-guided tour!
My only criticism of the world-building and coherence lies in the different levels of technology. There were moments when I felt slightly incredulous with some mentions of objects very similar to what we have today, alongside others that were far more futuristic. But this is inherent to the complexities of the genre, much like in The Expanse with their somewhat impractical phones.
The story is cohesive, long, and well-structured; you don’t feel the limitation of fewer than 400,000 words, and it doesn’t end with a cliffhanger and a “see you in three years, maybe!”
(I’m not criticizing sagas that do that—some, like Huyga or Wayhaven, even turn it into an asset—but it’s always frustrating.)
A very personal critique, which is really just my opinion: I sometimes hesitated to choose the most insulting options, and you’ll agree that’s terrible! The majority of the insults were “Christ-based.” It’s not that I don’t want to blaspheme, but in this futuristic universe, the fact that the curses and swear words aren’t more modern kinda tic me but that might just be a cultural bias
Thanks a lot for your work, again, it’s was really well done, fun immersive, and engaging ! Clearly in my top !
Just keep in mind the current tech and those previous that are still in use today. Tech still used a thousand years ago. It’s believable. ‘TVs’ idea go way back to puppets in a box. Calling it a TV today and whatever the TV is tomorrow.
Concepts of understanding and simplicity instead of complexity to readers. If complex, more misunderstanding.
I love how it’s written and detailed.
Awesome review!
@Bacondoneright
Glad to see in the release the time clock, backpack, wallet and money that add some dimension on the story.
Oh for god’s sake, I was overseas during the time, and I missed the release. Congrats on adding another game to your belt, Bacon. Hoping to see the next Forgotten one soon.
