The game automatically saves your progress before you start the raid in chapter 39 and you get an option to restore at the end of it all, I’m pretty sure
thanks for the reply
i dont know if you can help, but i think i chose every single flirt choice when it popped up, and still couldnt get the ending. my run wasnt perfect either.
any ideas?
Really? I am currently on the COG online platform and never has there been an option for me to reload a checkpoint or restore a specific file of my progress. Are you using steam or Amazon, or another medium?
It’s just a lot more enjoyable and less time consuming if it wasn’t necessary to always FULLY restart 300k words LOL
Oh really… Then I’m not 100% sure but if you are intent on trying some more it may have to do with your AIU stance. I was playing on negative AIU stance which may have opened up the GUNI option out of hate of the AIU
Never mind, it only triggers if you die
Ohh LOL
Got a little déjà vu on my first playthrough and confirmed it on my second run
This is so interesting! Weirdly enough, I did abandon the shotgun and kept the backpack and somehow still bumbled into 5/5 timeliness but I’m not entirely sure how LOL. I didn’t take any injuries during the entire sequence, though I did have 2 injuries from previous blunders. But I agree that I’m not. Positive the backpack did anything? I feel like it was mentioned in passing that I still had supplies but I couldn’t tell if it helped or not. I don’t think it did.
I just finished binging the game and it was absolutely fantastic! It was one of my favorite wips and the full game did not disappoint. What a fun ride from start to finish. I’m not sure how I bumbled into saving everyone but at no point did I feel less tense about the situation or like I could rest on my laurels haha! It really felt like my poor Whiskey was just failing vaguely upwards the entire story, poor guy.
I’ll definitely be giving it a reread or three over the next few days to see how other choices play out.
I want to say both the shotgun and the backpack don’t have much of an impact, it’s really just about making smart decisions in fights to avoid injuries and saving time during the headquarters massacre
How do I get an ending with Ulysses? Retirement or fake identity?
it’s like Sujan_Dhakal said: i just got to the end, and the game gave me a prompt of either going with it or restarting from checkpoint - at the beginning of ch 39
finished the game more than a few times now and just wanted to drop a comment that this is an amazing read
my first run i got the violent domestic life ending and i did not know how much i needed whiskey & uly a la bonnie & clyde. second run i got the director ending and ngl that was whiplash compared to the first ending i got. i got chills when i realized who was who
also i believe you only get the option to restart from checkpoint if you die! i ran into this with the double suicide anomaly ending and ngl personally i felt like that’s the “true” ending personally? all gas no brakes till the end of the road haha
i do wish we could have seen / learned more about proctor though. ik there wasn’t a good time for it but he kinda scratches my hot old man itch the same way shonin does. anyone…?
also i tried so long to get the uly arm amputation scene bacon posted a teaser of all those months ago and I ended up code diving just for it. im so happy to finally get to read it in its entirety. ty bacon!!
I’ve been waiting for this one
This was in my top list of WIPs to look forward to and it delivered!
The variations in endings were amazing in my first play through I got ending 11/15 which I was surprised I even managed to save the ship as my Whiskey had so many injuries but I quickly replayed to get endings 14 and 15 which were SO bittersweet and made me tear up.
I know the author is great at writing action scenes from I, the Forgotten One but even when there was a barely a lull in the combat I never lost my interest. My adrenaline was pumping the entire time. I also really loved how well executed the sudden tone shift was between action to horror if you decide to hunt down the Anomaly in the hospital. I suddenly felt like I was in an Alien movie. Anything about the Anomaly was so horrifying and really plays into my fear of space lol.
I am so attached to my Whiskey after this I’ll be thinking of her even after I finish replaying the other endings.
I am still going through the rather meaty demo and have not yet hit the point where you need to purchase the full game. Honestly, I think the author was almost generous to a fault but nevertheless I thank them.
I have decided to give this a full purchase once I get to the prompt. Besides the interesting world, the writing I think it what is really carrying this; mature tone but with moments of levity. Character with motivations and issues that make them human. Also, tense scenes that challenge your character and put some fear in you.
There is one scene that practically reached through my screen, grabbed me by the back of the neck, and yelled, “yeah, I gotcha now!” You will know the scene when it comes…
As an aside, if you are used to the more traditional Choice of Games stat system (both ability scores but also attitudes), you will not find that here. You do make a choice early on for your body type (I picked small and agile) that seems to impact certain success or failures but nothing else except for an invisible stat that tracks your view of a certain faction.
While I miss the RPG aspect, I also find it refreshing to pick my replies without a concern of affecting my “attitude stats.” YMMV.
Overall, while only still in the (again, very large) demo, I will purchase when the prompt comes and I am giving it a fairly strongly recommend.
Good luck!
That… took a while. My favorite COH of the year, I think? Def entering on my top six overall with IFO, rebels, Infinity Saga, Exodus and Fallen Hero. Very unoriginal list, I know. Btw, if you want to 100%, make manual saves. One at episode 43 after having aced the whole way and flirted with everyone, inc Shonin, one without having flirted with anyone, and several when you are about to decide each ending in every iteration the epilogue. Only thing I wished to see what some sort of better finale with Mendez, really liked her lmao
Also, someone should seriously study how Bacon manages to make a game where most of the content is straight up action and it still feels compelling to play all the way. I did feel a bit jaded of most of it being fights or running around in chap 42-43, but the payoff was worth it. 9/10 for me.
Some achievements are really hard to get, if someone needs any help with any of them lmk, I did 100% in 13.5 hours. Most of them are pretty straightfowards, at least. You almost every one that isn’t an ending one in one run. Then its just going back to a save and experiencing the others.
What’s the “uly arm amputation” scene? Is that in Epilogue 2 or 3? Does she chase after you if you make her hate you or smth
How did you make several manual saves?
Go to Steam, userdata, and scrounge through the random numbers until you find Whiskey. Then, where the saves are, make new folders and paste the current ones. That’s about it.
No. However, there is at least one ending where you need Ulyssa to hate you (you either love them or they hate you, bit psycho kek), which is them freeing you from the hospital and then never seeing you again. Those endings you mention, as a general rule, an ending in the low numbers relates to a worst ending scenario with the overall ending, no spoilers. There are different possibilities to pick depending on how you do. Off the top of my head, ending 3 you need to do not very good at all and then have the capacity in some way to continue struggling and convince the higher ups to let you.
Wow… just wow. Among the best fiction I’ve ever read as a whole (which is admittedly not that much outside if and a select few series here and there, but, still really fucking awesome shit, dare I say, better than itfo imho). One of the best few bucks I ever spent. Got the ultimate sacrifice ending. The epilogue, specifically the cemetery part felt very fitting for uly and whiskey . Even more so considering I played a very bitter whiskey… Felt satisfying. But still damn I should have saved that war crime weapon for future use. Fuck me for not being a hoarder
Just finished my first playthrough, and want to say: I love this COG. It hits Delta Green, Call of Cthulhu and Traveller vibes, all of which are things I enjoy.
I got the Ultimate Sacrifice, and am looking forward to finding routes to the other Epilogues! This one was a fitting end IMO.
